Yes for more Non-Fiction!! I want to read more non-fiction too!
We are similar with read more NF. Great goals and nice video! Happy Holidays!
Thank you and happy holidays to you too!
My bookish goals are to read more books (I probably read around 25-30 this year!!), document it on my channel. I would like to double the amount of books I read this year and actually choose quality books. And to just enjoy reading no pressure. 😊
@@aprettybookshelf all great goals. You’ve got this!
You got this!
Thank you!
You can do it
Thank you
I loved nightmare before kissmas ❤️💚🖤 I need more queer Christmas ROM Coms! Great vlog!
@@MelaninnManga it is so good and thank you!
Lots of interesting reads! I'm reading 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster.
@@noteworthyfiction just looked it up this book sounds good! It’s also a chunker
@@literarylayer It is a chunker! I think you'd like it. Definitely on the modern style as far as writing style, but I could see you enjoying the themes and structure.
What!!!! WWWHHHHAAATTT!? A book I shared? Oh wow!!! Now that's awesome. Dang, I love my nieghbors!!! I hope you enjoy "Leave Only Footprints" as much as I am! You've got a great list of books there.
@@CGRatedBooks hey neighbor! That was a good choice. Looking forward to hearing you discuss it
Nice haul. I have heard a lot about black women's expected sacrifice taking a toll on the body. I want to read Hood Feminism once day. Bad Fat Black Girl: Notes from a Trap Feminist is another really good similar memoir.
@@TangibleReads yes, it does take a toll. I haven’t heard of Bad Fat Black Girl but sounds like a good read
Those are nice reads. But the book you really got to read is I am that I am the human origin story, the real Holocaust by Edward B. Kirkwood🎉❤
Another one that I haven’t heard of. You all are giving some good recommendations. Thank you
Such a nice video!! I’d love to do something like this!! 💕
@@Maeve_Ever_Books thank you and you should do it!
God: An Anatomy sounds like something I would love!! Thank you for talking about it on your channel!!
No problem! She did a good job with writing this.
my goal was to read one NF per month. In 2024, my favorite is _Seabiscuit: An American Legend_ I've only read 9, so I am 2 behind with a month to go.
Good luck. Hope you reach your goal
yes, you are gonna cry with _Flowers For Algernon_ For sci-fi, I will recommend _Kindred_ by Octavia Butler (which is only loosely sci-fi, more historical fiction). Or, try her _Parables of the Sower_. LeGuin is really good, but deeper than most modern sci-fi. For example, _Left Hand of Darkness_ is 55 years old, and still relevant. The sci-fi is just a vehicle to talk about something relevant to humans on earth now, without offending a certain group - whether it is political, ethnical, economic, cultural or societal. I find the a lot of modern sci-fi is more like sci-fantasy (fantasy in space - Star Wars is just a slash-and-sword fantasy where the steel sword is replaced by a light saber.)
@@kurtfox4944 I recently read Parable of the Sower and enjoyed it. I think I liked it because it was sci fi that wasn’t set in outer space. Based on how you’re describing the genre it sounds like I’d be more interested in older sci fi
@@literarylayer I think _Kindred_ by Octavia Butler is two tiers above Parable, FWIW. There are LOTS of books that are sci-fi that are not set in space. Technically, _Flowers For Algernon_ is sci-fi, but don't let that scare you. And _Frankenstein_ is sci-fi, one of the first ones (don't judge the book by the movies). Of course you don't have to go back to 1818. :-) Any dystopia (like _1984_ or _Brave New World_ or even _The Hunger Games_ ) is called sci-fi. Or alternate history (like _The Plot Against America_ ). Or time travel (like _Kindred_ or _Outlander_ ). Or, any apocalypse novel (like Cormac McCarthy's _The Road_ - it's on Oprah's list, if that means anything to you). Sci-fi does not need to be space, aliens or robots. But it is easier to discuss sensitive topics and be inoffensive if you invent a whole new planet with society's that frame your topic of discussion (hence space). Aliens and robots are often just literary tools to highlight what makes us human (or not) - so what we are really talking about is humanity, without being bogged down in other aspects of earth culture. Space and spaceships are automatically atmospheric. Spaceships are a good way to force claustrophobia (as are submarines, or cave dwelling). Space is a place for isolation and introspection without crowds and interference. In short, sci-fi a convenient way to narrow the focus of discussion and thought without the baggage of history or culture of people or places on earth. There are some good sci-fi books out now, but there is a lot of 'pulp', too. It all depends upon what you want to get out of reading. Enjoy!
While _James_ could stand on its own, I think you get a lot more if you read AoHF first. Mostly, because most of the humor is how the situations are told differently. A lot of AoHF is imagined heroics of a teenager envisioning himself as something special as opposed to an adult who sees the reality of the situation. That first paragraph sets the tone for the book, and if you haven't read AoHF, you won't understand that tone. The contrast of the situations is what makes it a bit more enlightening. Without having read AoHF, I don't think you get that full impact.
@@kurtfox4944 I want to go back and read the first paragraph now because I don’t remember it. Thank you for bringing that up. I agree that you won’t get the full impact without reading Huck Finn first
I just got done with the nightmare before kissmas and it so cute lol I need more queer holiday stories. I really enjoy Make your season bright by Ashley Blake and Holly Dates by Brittan Cherry❤️💚❤️💚
@@MelaninnManga it does sound like the cutest story and I love the cover. I haven’t heard of the others but will check them out
@literarylayer 👏🏼👏🏼😁😁
Yes we had to read flowers for algernon I remembered liking it but it’s on my list to read same as brave new world 🤎
@@SusieSue242 I keep forgetting about Brave New World. I want to get to that one as well
Honestly, this is super slay and relaxing to watch! I love book core and just reading throguh a pile. If your interested in Paranormal Romance, could I recommend BRIDE by Ali Hazlewood. I realy enjoyed it in terms of charcters and dialuuge.
Thank you! I’m still new to romance and didnt know about Paranormal Romance but I will definitely check out Bride
I have been contemplating on whether or not to use a physical list or log to track my reading. I have never really used a planner or log before. Honestly, I just track everything through my goodreads account, but I have some reluctancy in relying merely on digital platforms. I'm so lost as to how to move forward. This was a very interesting view.
Maybe use both. I’m trying to get away from using electronics for everything. I prefer writing on pen and paper and I’m reading some books that are personal and I don’t want to put on a public platform. I seem to better overall with writing down plans as well.
I’m reading A Fatal Inheritance. Great learning opportunity for me as an oncology nurse to see the discoveries of how genetics was found as a factor in cancer.
@@cherylsmith7216 This sounds like a sad yet interesting book. I’ll be adding this to my list. Thanks for sharing and hat’s off to you for the important work that you do ❤️
Oooh-God: An Anatomy sounds fascinating. Any chance you have seen the response to Baldwin’s book called The Fire This Time, edited by Jesmyn Ward? It is pretty powerful, too.
I hadn’t heard of it but I just looked it up and will definitely have to read this! Thanks for recommending it.
I finished Children of Blood and Bone but didn't continue the series for the same reason. I heard good things about Model Home, I hope it works well for you.
@@PageTurnersWithKatja CBB was such a disappointment. I’m loving Model Home though.
Ah man, a DNF? Sorry to hear it was dissatisfied enough to warrant such a decision. Hope the the next king is far more satisfying.

Awesome! Awesooooooome! I love the way you closed this out with the bookmark selection AND mini reading montage! Chef's Kiss!
@@CGRatedBooks thank you! I’ve been experimenting with recording b roll footage. It’s been fun
@literarylayer yes! I'm moving into that B roll content as well. It really helps with the presentation. Well, I think you've done an outstanding job. Great vid!!
As someone who just had a month between videos, yes, i should bulk record 😂
It’s so hard being consistent 😩 I know what you mean
I guess I didn't realize you were in Texas too. I too know about Dutch Brothers...
@@CGRatedBooks yep, I’m in Texas 🙂
@literarylayer it's a small small world...
Oopf, yes please straighten them books out at the free library.... oh, the child's clothing back pile i remember this well.
@@CGRatedBooks yes, the clothing pile that keeps growing along with the memories 🙂
@literarylayer I often think back to the onesie my youngest used to where. He loved unsnapping em at the crotch and letting em dangle at the thigh like cowboy chaps. He'd run up and down the hallway like he was riding an imaginary horse.
@@CGRatedBooks😂 aww i bet that was too cute!
PREACH
My first hobby will always be reading, my second is crochet but I have so many books to read and really struggle with audiobooks so I can't do both 😂Your TBR jar turned out so pretty!
@@LizsReadingCorner- aww man the audiobooks and crocheting would be a perfect combo but I understand the struggle and thank you!
I love getting used books!! Thanks for all these recommendations for where to shop!
@@Maeve_Ever_Books you’re welcome!
Hey! Awesome video, very helpful info. Not sure if i even thgt to check Booktube for places to buy books. I'm about to start searching for abs visiting local shops. Searching for specific books.
@@CGRatedBooks thank you! I love finding a new local shop as well. A lot of times they have books that aren’t being talked about online
@literarylayer I'm thinking the same. I've almost exhausted my online search for this collection of books in trying to find. I was familiar with some of these places you mentioned but definitely not all of them. So, I'm be checking them out later today.
@@literarylayer Well, you already know that I'm out here searching for a collection of books that went out of circulation several years ago. Trying to find the more uncommon titles in this collection is becoming difficult. So now my efforts are being pointed in the direction of incorporating used book shop owners to help me find these books.
@@CGRatedBooks if you can, try to find one where the owner is a reader. That makes a difference in the selections and the experience. They usually have a wealth of information
I love the prices and selection of Thriftbooks, but I HATE HATE HATE the stickers they use. I can see some of them on your shelf, taunting you to try to remove them without tearing the cover paper off!
@@PulpMortem they do sometimes go overboard with the stickers. I used to remove them as soon as I got them. Using a blow dryer for removal helps though
Love this!!
What's the recipe
1. Season roast with rosemary and salt then sear on both sides 2. Add onion and bell pepper 3. Fill pot with water 4. Add beef bouillon, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika, brown gravy, cream of mushroom 5. Cook for 6-7 hours 6. Last hour add carrots 7. Last few minutes add noodles and broccoli 8. Cook noodles al dente and remove from heat so they don’t swell 9. Enjoy 😋
I’m so glad you found a romance you like!! I’ve also struggled with that but, after reading about 100 of them, I think I have around 10 I like.
@@Maeve_Ever_Books it was definitely a struggle finding one but I hope to read more of them soon 🙂
Your voice is so soothing 🥰🥰🥰

David Copperfield is one I want to read eventually but it is chunky lol. Great video and thanks so much for the tag!

"2 is too many" TRUTH!! 😂Let me know when you finish David, maybe we can buddy read Demon Copperhead together! (No rush as I'm in no hurry to pick it up.)
@@noteworthyfiction yes, let’s do a buddy read. I’m thinking maybe spring is when I’ll feel like reading it

Looks like a great start to the project! Can relate to non fiction being longer than it needs to be hahaha. I’ve been curious about a couple of these but don’t own them physically, I think they’re on my Everand.
Love your covers of Parable of the Sewer and the Talents!!
The artist did a beautiful job!
I had some similar questions to yours when I read Recitatif. It felt more like just an exercise or challenge. After the incredible books Beloved and Bluest Eye and Song of Solomon, the story was a disappointment. Those Butler editions are gorgeous!
@@HannahsBooks definitely a disappointment. I thought that maybe I was missing something in the story based on so the positive comments I saw. Glad to see someone else agrees. Yes, I love the covers and used to have them on display!
As someone who never read AoHF but knew the plot, I found James to stand on its own. I just finished James and NOW I’m reading AoHF, and I find myself enjoying it AND wanting to read James again. Anyway you slice it, they’re both classics. I think they will be studied together for generations.
@@CurtisBowden I’d have to agree that James stands on its own and both will be studied together as classics from different perspectives
Woah I've never seen that Harry Potter cover before. Does it have any illustrations inside?
Ikr I love these covers. I recently found out about these from another UA-camr. They’re the Bloomsbury UK Signature Edition from 2010 and not illustrated on the inside.
Hellll yasssss !
