Save your garage floor! I noticed when I bring my car into the garage and the bottom of it is caked with snow and ice I find that snow and ice contains a lot of grit and salt. That great and soul is destroyed the commercial finish on my garage floor and was eating in the concrete. I looked at many solutions but found this auto floor guard to be the best for my purposes. I can easily install it ...

    First you need to put it in neutral raise the handbrake, then be sure to release the brake because the car is still ride a little and only then to do this, move the selector to mode P.. i think its the same

    I am usually rolling when I put the car on neutral with the parking brake on. So I do: 1.) Complete stop 2.) While foot on brake, neutral 3.) While foot on brake, parking brake 4.) While foot on brake, shift to park 5.) Slowly release foot of brake. Is there something wrong with my parking brake? Is it really that strong that that alone would hinder me to move if it's neutral + parking brake?

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 9 місяців тому

      Your parking brake should always hold the car. Once the car is resting on the parking brake, then put it in park. Then remove it from park first, then release the parking brake . 🫡🇺🇸👍

  • @nathanplatero8019

    In the last step you put the car into park. Do you need to apply the service brake when putting the car into park?

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      Applying the parking brake first, putting it into neutral, releasing your foot off the pedal and letting the car rest on the parking brake is the whole idea. Anyway you do it is fine, just as long as the car is resting on the parking brake and not the transmission, is the idea.

  • @alicea5
    @alicea5 11 місяців тому

    I’m confuse. Would the car roll back if you have the hand brake on and move to N? Do you need your foot on the brake pedal to shift from P to N or N to P when the hand brake is on? What I have been doing is, in D apply hand brake, keep foot on brake pedal and shift to P.

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      If you’re parking brake is functioning properly the car will not move once applied. If your car moves after your parking brake is applied you need to get it fixed. That means your parking brake will not prevent the weight of the car from resting on the transmission. Going through all these motions will not count if the parking brake slips and does not work.

  • @wertbe1718
    @wertbe1718 11 місяців тому

    Why wouldn't you just apply the parking brake then shift to park? Thats what I always do and have never experienced a "clunk".

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      That’s essentially what I’m doing other than taking the extra step to let the car, lurch and rest on the parking brake. Parking on steep angles, allows your car to lurch, a small distance that would bind your parking gear. That’s why I show the extra step of lifting my foot off the regular brake pedal and allowing it the rest on the parking. If you’re not on a steep incline or ground, no need to do this at all.

    This 2018 highlander has been exposed to a lot of salt as we live at 1200 feet elevation. We get a bit more snow than our surrounding areas yet this five year old Toyota looks almost like it rolled off the showroom floor. It doesn’t take a lot of work to lightly scrub and rinse areas of the undercarriage down to keep the salt from rusting it away. Using Jay Leno’s car care products specifically the radiant, ceramic spray has kept us car like new. The pearl paint is the saying used on the Lexus and it’s really quite beautiful. I saw a 2015 highlander, essentially the same body style that needed a sub frame replacement because of rust. I will not let it happen to this car.

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      Apply to parking brake with your turn your wheel towards the curb (if you’re facing a severe downhill) shift in the neutral. Take your foot off the brake. Let the car settle. If your parking brake is good, you’re not going anywhere, shift to park from there. It sounds complicated, but it might take an extra second or two tops. Once you get the hang of it and it just becomes a habit..

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      Especially CVT’s. CBT’s are notorious for having issues you want to be as gentle with them as possible. If you own a car with a CBT, especially a Honda make sure you get it serviced with only and I mean only Honda fluid and Honda filter if there is one. Every CVT out there is not built like a traditional transmission..

    I have an Audi with flick switch type parking brake. What do I do?

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg 4 місяці тому

      It’s even easier with an electric parking brake in an Audi. If you’re on a steep incline and are parking your car, the first thing you do is hit the parking brake to on . Then briefly put the car in neutral and let your foot off the brake. The car might lurch a half an inch or so that’s OK. Then simply put the car in park and you’re done. Remember, the idea is the let the cars wait rest on your parking brake and not your transmission and drivetrain. You could either have an Audi transmission repaired or buy a decent used Honda Accord . Audi transmissions are notoriously expensive expensive. it’s best to find an independent specialist that works on course the service your transmission and car overall. Someone you trust.. nine times out of 10 you’ll get much better service than a dealer.

      Using your parking brake, doesn’t wear anything out. It simply keeps things moving whether they are brake cables or electric motors that drive the calipers. It does your car a lot of good to use the parking brake!🇺🇸

    This is good procedure, and as a person who lives on a steep hill, I can confirm it's the best option. 1. Stop with service brake. 2. Shift to N. 3. Apply parking brake. 4. Release service brake and confirm parking brake is sufficient. 5. Shift to P. However, when I park on a flat, I only use the park gear.

      When I shift out of park into reverse in my 15 rav4 on my barely inclined driveway, it makes a pretty bad kurchunk sound and unfortunately I don’t use the hand brakes. If I try this in reverse order, do you think it should fix the bad sound?

    • @dancoulson6579
      @dancoulson6579 Рік тому

      @@vpattt1619 When moving off, from an incline. I'll: 1. Apply service brake. 2. Release parking brake. 3. Shift into desired gear, D or R. 4. Release service brake. The idea when moving off is to ensure that you don't allow the park gear to take the weight of the car. Shift out of P early and make suee that the brake is what releases you.

    • @Justacogg
      @Justacogg Рік тому

      Letting the car rest on the parking brake however you do it before moving the shifter to the park position will ensure the weight is off of the parking gear/claw. It seems to be particularly bad in Toyotas. The noise you hear when you pull it out of park as loud. That noise disappears when the weight is kept off of the parking gear.

      It was actually a last-minute thing. My neighbor who has a very steep driveway, had their car so badly jammed they broke the shift linkage, trying to get it out of park.. I actually pulled my truck up behind their car pushed it forward a little over an inch and then we were able to get the car out of park. A new shifter and some linkage was a little pricey as we couldn’t find the parts used. So I made this quick video, hoping that it would prevent someone else from having the same problem.
