We moan until it’s over and then moan that it’s cold, damp and grey. That’s your years sorted
Thornbury Castle has recently completed a full refurbishment (I contributed a very small bit to it) now its finished, it looks stunning
Nice!
Hi Candace, this will be quite long comment, but i do hope you take the time to read it, its very similar, to what you had, that we did every year for 15 years or so, but during a different time of hoidays, before, the flighst abroad and all that, which started in the 1980's, cheaper travel back in 1968, i was 3 years old, my grandparents used to holiday at wortley hall in yorkshire, this is a big stately home, owned by the labour party, during the summer, the rooms was rented out, guess to help pay for the up keep, i started going at 3years old, im going to jump 5 years ahead, . my parents started to holiday there 2 weeks every year, during the 6 weeks school holidays normally last week of july and first week of august, many other families aprart from us and one other family used to to saty for the 2 weeks, one set of holiday people july, and another set august. apart from my family one other family, this continued up till about 1982, so we had a decade of it, this will become clear in a minute how it was made a difference before i go onto the what made it special, i will explain the place a bit, i will leave a link at the ned you can copy paste she the place for yourself The rooms, were still old style set from the 50's and 60's, cant remeber how many rooms, 100 plus i guess, we were kids, seemed alot, you enetered by a big entrance with a small sweet shop located in side for essentials, opposite that was a small dining room, you went through to the lobby area, on the left was a room with a arm chairs, book shelves piano, a room to sir relax, read, or what ever, oppiste that was the grand dining hall, where we got 3 meals a day, breakfast dinner and tea, next was the grand stair case, but before you went up there, was another room i cant remember what that was used for, then there was the TV room, no stalite internet of stuff in the room in them days. to the right of the stairs, before you go up, was to the bar, the dance hall and games area, snooker table and table tennins and so on, and the exit to the back area of the hall, going up the grand stair case to you to the rooms, half way up, it split off left to right, then overlooked the lobby, the rooms were basic, no on suit, shared toilets and bathrooms, and chamber maids under every bed, yo need to pee during the night, you went in the chamber maid ceramic pot under bed emtied washed in the morning. , the grounds were extensive and as kids, we were safe to go anywhere, visit the lake, pet cemeratry, explore, to be honest, kids we did what we wanted, only saw parents ate meal times, parents of that time were baby boomers, drinkers, , this brings me on to the unique side of it. What happened over the 10 years that went there, was the same families booked the same time every year, so you saw the same people every year, the kids made friends, the parents made friendships over a beer or 12 lol, i had my first crush at 12 years old in the TV room watching the series rich man poorman, it never amounted to anything, but i still remember my first crush Now because this is a hotel, its its own grounds, no one left, or went out for the day, basicly stayed there, for your holiday time., kids played parents drank Now what the parents did was between themselves, formed a comittee, a games comittee, and ran comeptitions through the week, bowls, snooker, table tennis, skittles, dominoes, card, the yard of ale and some other stuff, along side that, was also a childrens competition, everyone paid a small amount of money to eneter, these rans all week, this was not don by the hotel, just the holiday people, they also introduced bingo every night. with the money earned on the thursday, it was given to the hotel to put a childrens party on, which was in the first room as you enetr the door, jelly ice cream and all that, and on the night time there was childrens fancy dress, run as a small compettiton in the main ballroom, great night for the kids all rund by the people and presented the winners of the competitions, every child go a small prize, sweets bag or what ever, no loosers really friday night was the adults nights, kids were allowed in the bar and ballrooms, at any hour, so friday night was parents night, rund by the people, it was adults fancy dress, which to us kids, funniest thing every, this carried on for 10 years every year, until the 80's, where the hotel was taking a different turn in how they wanted to go forward, most of the people who went including my parents, got banned from going anymore, as it was a drinking culture, they wanted to move away from that, now rooms have en suite, and have gone more down the route of wedding and so on, with accomadtion, it is still possible to go and stay there, i have visited a couple of times for the day, just to go over old times, there is so much more to tell, sliding down hills on cardboards pinched from the kitchens, the secret doors from one room to another through the book case also there is one area, for years we would not go as kids on the kier hardy wing, the devil lived up there, for 10 years,no one went up, we challemged all mates, no one would get passed first set of stepps, as we got older last year or two, we went up, it was only a laundry room hope you like this, ask any questions you want, the place is is Wortley Hall, copy paste that yu will get it
Fun fun fun! 🙂
Love your videos!
As a child i was fascinated by highwaymen so i always go visit dick turpins grave.
Lot of places have history ,but not many with style
Very true!
Great vid 👍
Thanks for watching!
Did i just hear you say Loverley Juberley. How do you know that. Ahhh, Our secret words out.
I've been here 9 years! Rubs off :)
@@itscandaceabroad You will understand nearly all of us then. I say nearly, For theres some i even struggle with.
Back in the early 1990's my wife and I had dinner here, we had been a few years before and really enjoyed it, so we went back to repeat the experience. They had just started having guests stay in the rooms and after the meal quite late that evening we were walking back to the car when I was curious to look into the ground floor window to see what the rooms were like. The light was on in the room and I stood on tip toe to gaze at the decor, the ceiling and general layout when I noticed a the bed clothes and a man lying on the bed completely naked looking sternly at me. I just lowered myself down and calmly walked a
Did the Fact you didn't have a Window in your bed Room make you feel enclosed.?
We did have windows :)
@itscandaceabroad Ho ! . 2nd question did you Feel the Presence of Former Occupants.?
@@MaxwellMoore-d1u i have a funny stoy similar to what you think, im going to put it in a full comment, help her channel, please comment on what you think
That is a beautiful castle and am tempted to book it for my 52nd anniversary, but boiled eggs for a Full English breakfast? Or was there a choice of boiled and fried?
It's definitely great for special occasions, I got poached eggs not boiled :) you can choose to have them cooked any way you like!
@@itscandaceabroad That's a relief. Just joking. It is the sort of place that you could give to someone as a gift stay, if you could afford it.
Looks like a great place to spend Halloween (spooky).
Definitely, the autumn foliage was a fantastic bonus!
Wonderful video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed!
Smashing!!
Thanks for watching!
You have lovely eyes and it was an enjoyable and nostalgic video for me. I lived in Cambridge for many years. There are two Cambridges. The one where the university colleges are, King's College Chapel, The Backs, etc... And then there are places such as the Arbury, Fen Road, etc.. where if you don't have your wits about you, you might have problems.
I've been there
Well done, great video.
So many beautiful places in the UK, ive not been to lulworth Cove since i was a kid. I think after watching this i will take a drive, not that far for me really. Glad you are enjoying the 🇬🇧
You presented that really well. looks amazing
Hi Candace. I think you should demonstrate how to make pumpkin pie for your next vlog❤
Now there's an idea 🎃
Ah, this was fun! Thanks for the trip!
Welcome!
Yes brilliant and beautiful Bermondsey love it 🦁👍🦁
What a great video. If you haven’t done so you shpud try the Swan Restaurant and Bistro Bar which is a part of th Globe Theatre. Great food, ambience and great views across the river. Really enjoyed your video.
St. Paul"s is so beautiful. I went to London last summer and could see the top of it from my hotel room but never had the time to tour inside. I'll try to get there next time. As someone who lives in London full time what is your opinion on coming there in January? Do you think it's manageable with the right gear? Looking forward to your next vlog.
As a telecoms engineer,me and a team rewired St. Paul’s in 1982. We used to have our lunch up top. The steps were a pain and wiring the place was really difficult as everything had to be hidden. Certain walls were not to be drilled which was another headache but overall,a great working environment.
Fellow expat here. Thanks for sharing your journey, Candace! I very much identify with feeling more at home abroad and still wanting to stay despite the challenges of the expat life. I look forward to learning more about London 😊
Thanks! It was great exploring a new neighborhood with you!
Glad you enjoyed! x
Bermondsey ain’t central, it also used to be a fucking slum. Tough people lived there once
Love you IG account. This tour was great, as was CG. Perhaps I'll see you out and about in London in the coming weeks.
Thank you :) I'll be Londoning 🇬🇧
Great vid, thanks Candace!
Glad you enjoyed

One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing is a 1975 comedy film set in the early 1920s, about the theft of a dinosaur skeleton from the Natural History Museum. The film was produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by Buena Vista Distribution Company. The title is a parody of the film title One of Our Aircraft Is Missing, in which both Peter Ustinov and Hugh Burden also appeared. The film was based on the 1970 novel The Great Dinosaur Robbery by David Forrest (pseudonym of David Eliades and Robert Forrest Webb).
I'm a Painter & Decorator, I live about 25 miles west of London, and over the past 50 years I've done a ton of work in Kensington. I work mostly in Berkshire and Oxfordshire these days.. Great vid, have a smashing time..
Fiction Recommendation… for an American girl in London too… The Last Apothecary 😊😊 Enjoy!
Ohh thank you! x
Note to visitors: the section in the Tate Modern where the kids were painting is a temporary exhibition space, so it will change to something else in a few months. The 'Kim Kardashian' building...never thought of that! 😀
Thankyou, I would never have thought to see the Changing of the Guard this way! So much better than waiting for hours and being amongst a huge crowd. 😊
Yes! It's very very relaxed vs. trying to get to the front of the crowds - and you still see them walk + music :) enjoy!
Wow beautiful
Beautiful place
