Train Frenzy: National Model Railroad Month 2024
This one got lost in the busy November days. This is the fourth time we have celebrated National Model Railroad month at our school. Thanks to my Principal's blessing I am able to go a little train crazy and share it with my students and families. We have a weekly new train display in our Library display window, we have a humongous layout showcasing student creations to the layout during school conferences, we also trace how some everyday things got their start in railroads. The trains running at conferences feature Marx, Lionel, American Flyer, and K-Line trains.

Last Christmas I included a Christmas train for 2024 in a White Elephant gift at my school. Over the year we made decisions about what engine and cars to include and colors to make it. Here it is with some creative license.
Chicago Pioneer Zephyr

We made a visit the the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry to see the Pioneer Zephyr so I could geek out. I have a little Streamliner addiction and this is one of my favorites especially since I can see a real one and one of the Zephyrs ran from Chicago to the Twin Cities. The Mark Twain Zephyr is being restored near me as well in at the Wisconsin Great Northern railroad. I hope to go visit...
Marx 333 Pennsylvania Style

I got this nonsmoking 333 for a very reasonable price probably because the photos were poor, condition looked questionable and the seller did not know enough. I was very surprised with the quality of the modifications and outside of being oiled too much it was in great condition. This year we added a ceiling fan, side door window cover, raised the fridge and a beta version of a sink cabinet. Remember we live in beta for at least one trip to see how we like things then make adjustments. This year we are traveling west again to Utah and Arizona.

This is the first of the engines from the Rust Bucket Challenge videos that I have finished.... May tweak some more....If you are unfamiliar with those videos I was given some engines by a friend that were found in the basement of a house that had been flooded.
Marx M10005 Transition car

This is similar to the M10000 transition car I made not to long ago. Once I had made that I knew this one was soon to follow. This one needed a few more tweaks to work for some unknown reason.
American Flyer Prewar 3171 and 3172 passenger cars

I have been looking for some passenger cars for my AF 3325 engine and tender for quite a while. Fortune found these cars and they were in nice shape after some rust removal and clean up plus some electrical magic they are moving again.
The CP Empress 2816 Visit

The Empress came through town and being such a close image of the Marx CP and such a special train we had to make a visit. My granddaughters and I had a great time. Such a beautiful train..

HOMEMADE MARX METAL TILT COUPLER ADAPTER

Here is my attempt at making an adapter for a Marx metal tilt coupler so it will connect to a tab and slot coupler or giving the option of adding a knuckle coupler..... a work in progress for sure. I wish someone could make it on a 3d printer...
Marx M10000 Transition Car Project

This is my second and third stop on my Senior Center visits for this year. All are repeats of last year. I took it up a notch on these two changing the inner loop to a loop that elevates and descends. Thanks for sharing your passion for the fabulous era of steam and diesel streamline trains. These are my favorites to collect as well. I've lost track of how many that I have now. They are so fascinating on many levels. My favorite is the Pioneer Zephyr that you have highlighted here. I will get back to Chicago one of these days to specifically visit the Museum of Science and see this iconic train. Meanwhile I have most all of the model train variations, by Lionel and American Flyer. I have the Silver Streak version of the Flying Yankee, which shares the same chrome passenger cars, except for the rare front-end car that has a particular draw bar coupler coming off the coal tender. This set is pulled by a shrunk down version of the Commodore Vanderbilt steam engine, 265E. The American Flyer Comet set is another one of the lesser-known favorites of mine, with engines at both ends of the train, even though one is a lighted dummy unit. Those cheap tin versions that American Flyer came out with are so enjoyable to run, what with that delicate sound that can only come from the old tin plate trains. Cheers from Northern Calif

seems like it would be more versatile to modify a tender. probably look better, too.
You would only need the coupler modification for that but I wanted the engine normal tender look with a passenger set behind. The tender that goes with the M10005 would/may not have the right look right behind the engine....but it's a thought.

Yeah I cross over into AF, Lionel, Hafner, K-line, it’s a disease what can I say. The table top is a 4 x 8 sheet. Some of the other videos show the loop around the bottom and the L around the farm and airport.
That`s a Spicy Meat Ball, but Marx Vintage Tin is my passion. What is your table dimensions, Please?
4 X 8 on top, bottom goes around the table and has another loop 4 x 4 like an L

Marx guy here, good job on those passenger cars, but I got lost on the power pick-up construction for the lighting.
Look at this earlier one for the bottoms and the led part. The collector I will need to make a video... I know I have it one others... put a diod in your lights led will work on ac but dont like it much a diod will keep the power in 1 direction and not flash
