I used to be a autobody technician when I was. I worked there for 10 years when I first started. The jobs were really small like fixing little dents and bumpers and it was simple. Use rattle can primer. I was good at it and I made really good money just doing bumpersfast-forward seven or eight years later now the shops only doing big hits and I’m not that well-versed or knowledge have a lot of knowledge like how to take apart a lot of stuff on a car you know like it was insane. These cars would come in on wreckers cause they run drivable how bad the damage would be.

I've never heard of a place that used the 40 hour minimum, that didn't use it as a benchmark in order to fire people. Like when you go in and you have 34 hours and now they are going to pay you another 6 for work that isn't done so to speak, you're actually going to be put on notice at that point whether you know it or not.

Flat rate is great under age 30. Great experience at age 17. Keep it up. I am moving to México. I should open up a shop there. Enjoy.

Nah I just use a set of needle nose pliers. Have my gauge plugged in to the air hose that way I don’t waste time unplugging and plugging attachments. FR got me fucked up 😭

What I don’t get is why can’t some of these mechanics simply start an LLC. Doing little stuff with a jack and blocks; nothing major but if you’re licensed and certified you can start taking clients; small pool of people, do exceptional work and acquire excellent reviews. Im a flat rate technician and i make over a 100k a year. What happens is that it hard for a young technician that doesnt have much experience also some shops steal from technicians.
