Aaron Trumbore and Olivia Miller performing Áskell Másson's "Rhythm Strip". The piece is written for two drummers. Player 1 plays a piccolo drum and player 2 plays two drums, an orchestral snare drum and a military snare or field drum. The drama/theatre is captivating. A very clever and effective piece!

@@tylerende Hi, I'm Reese. Idk, i don't get it.

A Masterpiece. Thanxs! Great work.😮
I love this. Perfect composing, perfect performance.
Great version!
Let's go Levi!
Great performance! Thanks for playing the Septet.
Wow this is great, this guy should start a mallet company or something
This is baller! WAY better than the clapping...
Thanks, Gene! Certified fact - huge loud drums cooler than claps.
素晴らしい(゚∀゚)
That was AWESOME!!! 💪🏾
what mallets are those?
This kind of reminds me of Shane..
I love the tuning of the toms
Where can I found the Music Score ??
I would like to try this piece with my HS percussion class. What difficulties would I have in teaching it? I know the rhythms get pretty complex.
Hi Ben, tough for sure but doable. There are long stretches of polymetric polyrhythms, but practice will do it and it is a great piece to practice ensemble communication. Staying together (the top two parts really) is the thing. My kids took one look at it and "what....there's no way we can play this" and then were making good headway on it much quicker than they thought. I think a HS group can do it :)
Someone told me these guys are national champions
What type of bass marimba is that
Steve would be proud

Reese!
Mr. Beck!
I'm curious as to why player 3 didn't play with 4 mallets as intended?
Player 2 is the only part with 4 mallets in the sheet music.
@@ItsNumber84 In my copy of player 3's music, at the rest in measure 9, it says "to 4 mallets". Then at measure 38, it says "to 2 mallets".
@@amycoronado4920 Interesting, I had double-checked with a site that sells the sheet music, which says that player 2 is the only one who uses 4 mallets. But if you have the sheet music in front of you and it says to use four, I'd trust that over a blurb.
@@amycoronado4920The part where player 3 plays with 4 mallets is very brief and therefore I don’t think this guy needed to use 4 as he was good enough to the point he only needed to use 2. I did the same thing when I played this (I was player 3).
@@ItsNumber84me and my friends are interested in this piece what site are you using to reference this from?
It’s the one and only now tie man mr shelowski
Great job, guys! :-) hugs from Mexico
You’re all playing so crisp 🙀

Wow am I impressed! I went looking for John Luther Adams music and found this terrific performance. I love the little looks the performers give each other, especially that grin just before the end. Being able to see the set-up was a great way to visually see the different rhythms at play with each other - one side against the other usually.
Thanks, Megan! We had a blast. This will always be one I look forward to teaching again.
Bravo! What a terrific propulsive performance, and a fascinating new visual perspective on the drums. Thanks for sharing with us all!
Thanks very much, Noah :)
using this as reference when learning for solo ensemble🤪
Y’all are awesome for having great touch and the way you draw sound out of the marimba and for the tempo you took. Too many versions on UA-cam have ones with too hard strokes where hearing some of the attacks of the notes isn’t needed and most of them are way too fast
I agree, this is the best version on the internet in my opinion.
Your phrasing is so awesome! This is my favorite version for sure
What is the name of the marimba duet following “Octabones”?
Sublime!!!!
Excelente composición
Wow, what touch! fantastic.
Paige, you did this.
Typo in the title on Kai's name :) Great job both of you!
Lol "Laipo Lan" I like it though. Good catch, thanks Lucas :)
What grip is Laurel playing?
I play a Burton cross grip.
