Beautiful voices! Beautiful Music! Triumphant Spirits! Merry Christmas! ❤🕊️
The mask is really ruining this for me. Lol
Such a beautiful and well researched series on medieval music but singers wearing masks is dreadful to see today as was a not so long ago. I hope people will never do this again, not only it looks stupid but also non scientific. When they sing I just close my eyes...
Beautiful singing. Thankyou for sharing!
Quelle voix exceptionnelle! Merci.
Very well sung!
Take off the fg masks.
The Troubadours did not pursue "Courtly Love". They pursued Fin'amour. Courtly Love was a fashion of northern France.
Oooh, this is Exactly what I looking for! I love this tune so much. 👌
I hope we learned a lesson. The masks are laughable on Christmas 2023. And sad
Truly beautiful!
0:15 and I see that smile, love it
Just joining you here and can't wait to see how the year progresses, I hope you publish Expanding the Canon!
why FACE DIAPERS ?!
Que triste, muito triste ver artistas tão talentosos, apresentando um trabalho lindo, usando esse objeto que atrapalha a respiração, e que é contra DEUS!!! Misericórdia!!!
What a pity! Masks dampen the sound. Stopped listening after half a minute.
Renaissance singers had guts. They sang through real plagues without any masks.
Of course they didn't understand how disease was spread either.
@@philipthompson3555 they had faith which is better than an by pamby germophobes
@@suem6004 they did things they thought would prevent disease - lighting fires, using aromatic herbs, etc. Had they understood germs, I expect they'd have worn masks, and it wouldn't have been inconsistent with the theology of that time.
@@philipthompson3555 So did the humans in 2020. Masking. Sanitizing lotions. No touching. Masking in the outdoors. All bizarre unscientific superstitions.
@@suem6004 Faith is not the absence of using one's brain or acknowledging science. Despite their faith, the Plague killed over 30% of the population. If you contracted it today, you would be foolish not to take the antibiotics to fight the Y. pestis bacteria.
Thank you so much for your lovely music and your practical adaptations to the times.
GRAND BRAVO...!! despite of mask very beautiful music..!
Ruined by Facediaper!
Can’t watch with the masks shame
No not for me either wearing Masks creepy…omg. They didn’t even stop anything did they.
Merci Madonna
I am glad our son Eric Miranda is part of this wonderful cholr.
This video has been up for more than 2 years - and yet my comment here is the first comment! Near the end of the video, there was some discussion of how our awareness of tempus and prolation notation and terminology of the Renn can help us to recognize our own assumptions, etc., even of today's music. Near the beginning of the video, there was discussion of perfect vs imperfect tempus and the major vs minor prolation. From my 2023 perspective, I recognize these as analogs to our combinations of triple vs duple and compound vs simple meters. Today's (or at least of the 1990s) terribly narrow academic codification of music theory (devoid of relevant higher mathematics, fixated upon 12-TET, functional tonality, serialism, Euro-centric, "common practice period"-centric, harmony-centric, counterpoint-and-rhythm-marginalizing, etc.) presents us mostly with such narrow permutations of meter, BUT... once upon a time, either at or before these Renn composers, such ideas were new. The LIVING music theory of today (i.e. not what is mostly taught in universities) really is continuing the lively development of such Renn ideas - for example via so-called "irrational time signatures". To be clear, I do not like the term, "irrational time signatures" because the concept which the term signifies involves only rational (i.e. integer-vs-integer) proportions and not irrational (e.g. pi, square root of 2, etc.) proportions, but the concept is clearly in the vein of the Renn notations explained in this video. Basically, the so-called "irrational time signatures" allow for divisions of the beat by integers with prime factors other than only 2 and 3 WITHOUT having to use tuplet notation. Thus, for example, a 4/5 time signature would have 4 beats per measure, each of which contains 5 of what appear graphically to be our 16th notes - but without the burden of quintuplet notation. This is especially handy when switching between time signatures within a piece - and it broadens the conceptualization of metrical subdivision. Who knows - maybe by the time that global warming kills of half of the world's population, university music departments will begin to recognize this innovation... or maybe not. As things presently stand, only SOME music notation software (unfortunately not, for example, the most popular software, Sibelius) allow for this much overdue metrical notation. Time for 2023 to catch up with the Renn already - and that is not even to say how some of this might relate to non-Euro-centric practices, such as possibly African metrical constructs!
Academic collaboration channel - I dig it.
What's on your face? Have some self-respect..
Sad she kept her mask on... as long as she was 6 ft away what was the problem? No, the chant is not from an alien culture... it was a part of my childhood. I sang ancient Gregorian chant in grammar school.
Outstanding, thank you.
Superb presentation...I especially enjoy the multidisciplinary aspect.
To all the negative comments about the masks they wear, look at the date this video was uploaded - December 19, 2020. The pandemic was still in full swing. If I remember correctly, vaccines weren’t available until Spring 2021. I lost several relatives to COVID during those horrible years - I’m fed up with all the negativity. With or without masks, this performance is GORGEOUS. Thank you for sharing your gift of music.
You are so right. The mask doesn't affect the singer's wonderful voice at all.
Quite amazing considering they are wearing masks.
Wonderful programmes. Exciting and learned. Very many thanks. Warren
What beauty! Singer and lute player give us extraordinary beauty!
Nice face nappies. Lovely. A double-masker too! Absolutely insane.
Sorry masks make me leave bye
Bye then!
@@Violetmoon751 Refusing to engage is not helpful, that’s a communication breakdown and it always ends badly.
@@thegreenmage6956 Errrm!..I think you are aiming this at the wrong person...Shouldn't this be aimed at Yoda? Or was my comment worse than theirs? It was definitely shorter, that's for sure. I am not under any obligation to engage with anyone on here, but as they had decided the masks were more of an issue than the obvious beauty of the singing and said 'bye', then I said 'bye' back. End of!
Glorious!! What is the name of the singer? I'm assuming the lutenist's name is Brandon Acker from the comment below? This is completely transporting.
to those in the comments who are blaming the mask: if ranboo can be heard clearly through a mask, through a mic, through a stream, you can deal with listening to the beautiful singing through a mask
You’re so slow bet you’re going line up for all the boosters and the microch¡p to buy groceries too huh?
@@RASAAH777 oh my prime shut up, if ranboo can be heard clearly through a mask then we can hear the singing through a mask, this isn't about boosters and microchips, this is about sound through the mask
@@RASAAH777 It's still amazing how easiliy misslead some people are. We can't produce "microchips" that somehow combine battery, arial, processor & amplifier into something that is injectable, never mind invisible. Get a grip. Luckily for you, most people don't subscribe to fearmongering and lies, and helped to reduce the spread of a disease that is still harming people.
Christmas Snowflakes
Christmas Mask Stupidity
Stunningly gorgeous!
Beautifully done! (and will, for years to come, be another visual reminder of the colossal stupidity that was the wearing of masks to combat a virus...)
..a virus that was vastly exaggerated for political purposes. Most of the deaths have since been proven to have been caused by the so called "treatments"
I cant take this seriously with the ludicrous masks
It's like a Saturday Night Live skit...
Twilight Zone ...
Chanter avec le masque, sérieusement ???? 👎
This is the most stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life!!
Singing in masks is ridiculous
They are sensible
No, you just believed all the bullshit that all the useful idiot, TV watchers of the world did and have since been proven to be so... Congratulations! @@ann-mariepaliukenas19
love these lectures thanks for uploading
Well done!
Still incredible 🙏🏾❤️
Realmente bellísima interpretación del repertorio Renacentista Navideño. Les felicito con todo mi Corazón.
Thank you for this beautiful, succinct, yet richly detailed introduction to art in the Ars Nova period. I am a first-year B.Mus student, studying via a distance learning model. The history of music modules have been the most challenging of all, with little to no 'human touch' underpinning all that theory. I have particularly enjoyed this video, as well as the video titled, 'The Achievements of Medieval Polyphony' from Chapter 1. It has been greatly helpful for me to deepen my understanding of the medieval motet and its development through the 13th and 14th centuries.
We gotta feel bad for the impact of the pandemic on singers. Don't forget that tragic choir practice where several choir members at one church caught covid and died, due to greater aerosol spread while singing.
