2000 Monaco Grand Prix - F1 Challenge '99-'02: The Mendoza Career
From a historic F1 track, to THE iconic F1 track: The Legendary Monaco Street Circuit, the single most difficult track on the F1 calendar, requiring maximum concentration and confidence for 78 brutal laps. We will not get a repeat of bangers like the 1996 race, as the weather will, for once, remain clear through the weekend. A shame, because most races here can turn into processions with only Saturday's Qualifying being exciting. Will this one turn out any different?

    8:52 Total actually entered in F1 as a sponsor for Peugeot being an engine supplier in F1 from 1995 to 2000. In 1995, Peugeot was an engine supplier to Jordan after the 1994 season with McLaren which felt disastrous that it costed them. Total began sponsoring Jordan from 1995 to 1997 and Prost from 1998 to 2000.

      Thanks for the review on Total. What I meant by "hadn't entered F1" was that, at least in this Grand Prix World save, they never became a fuel supplier option that could be selected. In some saves suppliers can enter and leave the sport (say, Toyota entering, or Bridgestone leaving), so Total could have entered, which would have given everyone another fuel option. That hasn't happened so far, which ... a bit unfortunate. Had I used, say, the 2000 or 1999 mods, Total would have been an option from the start.

    Jose I have you F1C Wet Line FIxer and was working great last weeks. However since today when I try to open this .exe, it doesn't open. In my career, the next race will be in wet conditions turning to dry; last race with that situation, AI cars were flying and human player (me) was very slow (if you are off of the dry line there's no grip), so much that my fastest lap of the race was the worse of the 22 drivers, It's very frustrating. There's an alternative way to fix when the track is drying? Thanks!

      That's a bit weird. Did you change anything, like the F1 Challenge exe name? If memory serves, that Fixer only works when the F1 Challenge exe is "F1 Challenge Online.exe". Other than that, double check you are putting the inputs it asks. I do need to update and reupload it at some point, that one was an old version that I made for other people to test, not a true final version. There's some stuff I do need to check out as well regarding the fixer.

    Absolutly amazing race for Alex. I'm using the Jorge Alonso spreadsheet too, but I'm not suffering (human player) mechanical failures. How I can increase the probability to have more engine failures and brake issues?

      Thank you. First, mechanical failures should be set to Time Scaled, so that regardless of how long the race is, mechanical failure chance scales properly. Now, engine and brake failure chances can be adjusted by using less cooling and more engine RPM, so you could do that. For the engine, it is fine as long as you don't get an engine overheating warning. Another way to increase the chance of enging failures is to go to the engine.ini on SeasonData/Vehicles and going to the team and car you are using and slightly reducing the LifetimeAverage value. However, that will also affect your teammate.

      @@jose21crisisMS Thanks! And what AI strenght and damage percentage are you using for Monaco? Im using the same DM monaco version and I notice that they are very slow even at 103-105%, but if I increase difficult AI cars can crash a lot, specially at the Rascasse corner.

      @@JordiGambinSerrano I had to cheat a little bit to get the AI to work. What I did was increase the grip the AIs have (increasing the AIGripMult line in the tire file, the tbc in the SeasonData/Vehicles folder, I used about 1.35), lowering the AI Corner Grip Usage line in the PLR (to about 0.85) and then tweaked the difficulty. Monaco is ALWAYS annoying in F1 Challenge, no matter the version. It requires quite a bit of tweaking to get it to work.

      The 2005 mod I used, 2005 RH, had car sounds that were a bit too V8-ish for my liking. So instead, I used the V10 sounds I had in my version of the game for my Mercedes engine, which apparently were from the MP4-14. Small difference, but more accurate than it being a V8

      I have a feeling that, aside from terrible performance, reliability is going to sink Jaguar. They already lost one of their biggest chances to score points. They'll another shot at ... Argentina, Canada or Britain if it rains there.

      @@jose21crisisMS something i don't like about this game is that there's always that one team terribly underperforming. It's inevitable since car performance depends entirely on your designer, and there simply aren't 11 level-3+ designers. Also, nobody every signs Ferrari or Mercedes PUs. Also, have you ever noticed that, the more you scramble the market on the first year, the quicker Ferrari and McLaren's performance falls off? The game, once it can't sign again his designer, simply settles for any other one, even level 1, and that means from year 3 onwards that team is absolutely nowhere Still, this game has some better mechanics than F1 Manager 2023

      @@acescheiljoney6467 In this particular case, Jaguar is performing terribly because ... well, they don't have a designer, so they are missing out on a lot of performance. And yeah, designers and technical directors just don't improve fast enough to keep up. As for the PUs, I think that's because the AI tries to go for the higher R&D rating supplier first over the higher Cash rating supplier, and since Ford and the other suppliers have higher R&D and lower Cash than the others, they try to sign for those. At some other playthrough I have to experiment with modding the game and giving Ferrari and Mercedes higher R&D to see if the AI goes for them more often.

      You mean the ones during qualifying? If so, there's an utility called akoVCR that let's you open the F1C replay files and see the sector splits for each lap of every driver. Then I just calculate the split and edit it in the video.

    Imma be honest. I gave you as a goner, but you're still in it. The tracks of Monza, but especially Brazil, take a loong time to change conditions. You saw for yourself how at Monza it took 10 laps to change from inter to wet. Well, in Brazil it can take as long as 40 laps... About level-5 wet drivers, the game has this nasty habit that if a driver is level-5 wet driver, they decide he doesn't have to pit for dry tyres if the track dries up. It's totally broken. Let's say it's Austria, Micheal is 2-stopping, he stops for inters less than 5 laps before the track dries up. You can bet your sould that he will remain on track on the inters for the next 25 laps, when his next pit stop is scheduled. I sure hope this repeats twice for you in the next 2 races

      This is very much a case of "I should be dead right now". Still need a minor miracle for this to work and get Alonso the championship, but it is a bit more doable now. The track changing conditions, I always try to keep an eye out of the Wind to see if it has any effect on the weather, I do remember Brazil taking ages to change conditions ... which can be good at times. AIs sure goof up a lot in terms of strategy, it has kept us on the chase at least for now, and it just needs to happen 2 more times.

    Okay, so, Hungary was a huge blow to the championship. You can still win it, but stuff has to happen: you must win Belgium you must hope it rains in the last 3 races, but the rain has to be completely incosistent, so that the AI decides to keep Micheal and David out on inters when the track is dry

      Not impossible, but making up a 27 point gap in 4 races is ... going to be tough. DC only has to score 14 points over the final races to knock us out of the championship. Monza especially needs to be wet.

      I ... believe you. As long as we are within striking distance by Silverstone, there's a realistic shot at taking the title. Any later and we might run out of time ... assuming Ferrari and McLaren don't make it easier by bumbling about and dropping points like they did at the beginning of the year.

      It's a case of "Want, but can't". I'd like to help, but my current PC is on Windows 7, and I don't have any Windows 11 PC around. Maybe some playing around with the compatibility settings will help, or maybe disabling DirectDraw.

All Trulli and Minardi (and Arrows and Jag for that matter) is a race full of crazy, DNFs and rain that takes out midfielders and front runners (that aren't Prosts). And considering how Nurburgring and Suzuka usually go, there's a chance.

    you finally got lucky with the weather in this year but my advice: stay always on the right tyre, starting on wets hoping for weather to change quickly is extremely risky

      Oh, starting on the wets was really F'ing stupid I don't recommend that to anyone, but at that point I decided to throw up a prayer knowing that the guys aren't good in the Wet, which is something I wouldn't have done if, say, Alesi was there. Or if it was at Silverstone.

    I got a lot of stress managing lower teams , sometime i pick midfield team or front row team atm,theres a lot more management stuff you have to do as a lower team, 1 mistake can ruin the progression in lower teams

      Yeah, it's basically trying your best to balance expanding the team (to build more spares, more cars, sign more sponsors) without running out of cash by expanding too fast (too much personnel or too big a factory). It's fun when you get the hang of it, but the start is always difficult, especially with low performance teams that don't get a lot of FIA cash.

    Hockenheim is so bugged it isn't funny - you can afford a 0-stop strategy on the hards, you won't even be that slow in spite of the fuel. Spa is one less lap and you can have a good result on a 1-stop with softs, but it isn't as buggy, you will lose 5 seconds a lap of you try to do non-stop, but in Hockenheim that doesn't happen.

      I was actually hoping to run a 0 stop at Germany at some point, since it had so few laps and wear wasn't that massive. Depending on setup, driver orders, tyre resilience and traction control level, I think a soft 0-stop at Germany could be possible, but I haven't gotten around to testing it yet

    What you do at 29:14 is very inneficient - you fix 29% damage, then 17%, total 46%, yet you spend two spares. You could have fixed 100% of your other car with the same 2 spares! Also, building a 4th car is not as crazy as It seems: at some point it will cost $400,000, not that expensive considering it gives you more flexibility, and it speeds up testing: it's worth to consider it even as a poor team.

      Looking back, it was probably the better idea. Maybe I thought I didn't have enough personnel to get the full repairs done and just focused on getting 2 cats as ready as posible. As for the 4th car, the benefit applies only when the Test Rig is built (which I figured out after some testing) so at least in season 1 the 4th car is mostly useful after Brazil or Germany when the other cars are plenty worn.

      Yeah, ended up figuring out that was overestimating how much tire wear we would have. Two stops was very doable.
