I'm getting into meshtastic and wanted to verify that all you need to do to get the keyboard to work is wire as shown and configure as stated? Does the allow input and canned message mean i can type and send non-canned messages too?
Hi ! After watching the video, simply go to the details instructions at the link . Yes, you can totally typed using the built in keyboard making it very convenient www.printables.com/model/803986-meshtastic-standalone-device-heltec-v3-and-cardkb It will have all the info you need there
@@blueskies_solutions I did that and am so impressed. Thanks!
Very clever. A family or a factory can benefit. It should have a little message alarm (LED blink or screen icon - a buzzer, amplified sound would take more mA in my opinion.) I just want ESPNow for RC and haven't figured it all out yet.
More things can be added (i have built one before with GPS, Buzzer, Vibration Motor) but I wanted to make this build easy for a beginner. And also because it will use the least battery :)
👍
Cool. Both informative and enjoyable to watch. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you. Your video was very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
I am from Ukraine and find your videos very helpful here. Thank you!
Thank you so much vladara! Hope you are well and safe.
I am so glad you did a video on this. Nobody else has ever explored this topic of emp for Meshtastic and you did one! Definitely getting a bag to store my standby mesh devices
Glad you enjoyed it!
View video till end to see the solution that works and affordable
My Heltec screen shows “Unpowered”. Sometimes one line, sometimes two lines both saying “Unpowered”. This happens when the node has power (of course, since the display is active). What does “Unpowered” mean?
Which firmware version are you using and which Heltec model you are using?

Great design! One thought- Add a raised area around the buttons so they dont get accidentally pressed. That would make it pretty much perfect. Subb'd. Eric
Thanks so much for posting this. It’s a great asset to Meshtastic newbies. I have shared your videos most when spreading the word for this network. All my radio parts have arrived.. off to the library to print some cases!
You are welcome! Welcome to the Meshtastic network!
Thank you for the informative video. One comment, while your video has a lot of useful information, it is very difficult to understand your audio. A different microphone may help. Thanks!
Thank you for your feedback. Has since changed my microphone to a better one :)
Do you know of a case that will fit the regular Heltec v3 board and a 3000 mAh battery? I don’t have a 3D printer, and I’ve just been using little project boxes.
what is the size of your 3000 mAh battery? Because different brand has different sizing
The difficult part is getting your family to understand why YOU want to do this, especially wives. “It’s a boys thing and what’s wrong with our mobiles?”
Its may take some time to help someone else understand. However, meanwhile you can still prepare the devices and plan first, and when the need arises, you do not have to worry so much because you know exactly how to execute the plan
Very helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome!
very interesting video, congratulations
Thank you very much!
@@blueskies_solutions I'm starting my experiments with the LORA modules, I'm in Italy 🙂
@@ilciavattonewelcome to the Meshtastic community 😊
Great video. You touch some very important points.
I appreciate that! thank you
Good video, especially the ChUtil part. Something you could discuss next time is how a PACE plan can change depending on the situation. for example a pace plan can be different during a pre-crisis phase compared to a post-crisis phase or evening during the crisis be it in the middle of a storm or flash point of a war. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you! Will bear your feedback in mind
Thank you! I just got into Meshtastic and this gives me a good view of how to get started for my family
Wonderful! and Thank you too!
I have include the link to download the word doc in the video descriptions. Do feel free to modify it to fit your family needs and goals.
You need to do one for the iOS app too.
Let me look into it. Thanks for your suggestions, we have quite a number of Meshtastic videos planned to be released in May 2024. Subscribe to us to be notified
@@blueskies_solutions Thanks. I especially am confused by the RSSI indicator as I have great RSSI values for stations that I can obviously not hit directly by RF (over 60 miles away and my node is indoors with a short antenna). Also the app says I can see 50+ nodes, but when I try to send a message I get no acknowledgement. So which of the 50 nodes is actually closest to me and providing me the connection to the larger community? Many of the nodes do not have GPS, but there must be a routing list that I am receiving OTA would show this. See my confusion? Thanks.
Thank you for this! Super good to have all this info and understanding what it means.
You're so welcome!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Any info that you see on your screen that you are not sure what it means, simply comment below
what size of bolts did you use ?
its stated at the printables page in the video description
Hi, is it possible to purchase one from you?
Hi, sure, I can sell just the case. Just email to blueskiesshopsgp@gmail.com and let me know your shipping address.
Is there a reason why you went with the Heltec over whisblok? We've found Wis is more efficient for power consumption. What antenna are you utilizing? We've tested numerous antennas using the Nano VNA V-5, and found antenna resonance to be ALL over the place from manufacturer to manufacturer. What's the total cost of this build?
Even though I do have WisBlock, I still prefer this using Heltec v3 for this standalone device. The main reason I went with a heltec v3 because i am currently building about 10 units to give away to my family and friends, and have intention to build more over time to give away to closer neighbours. This set up gives me the best budget require the least amount of hardware pieces, and least amount of time to put together as a standalone Meshtastic device. I wanted a method that is easy for anyone to put together, even for someone with little or no electronics background. So that the overall community can benefit. Overall cost is very affordable per device. You can check out the cost of the Heltec V3 and CardKB in the links above, sometimes suppliers has sale and your cost goes even lower. The enclosure is really cheap if you 3D print yourself or get a friend to print for you. The antenna in the video is the stock antenna that came with the heltec v3. Of course, if you have another antenna with good swr, you can swap it out.
Wow, Thank you, exactly what i was looking for.
you are welcome!
cool
thank you!
After installing, do this as a one-time set up Go to Meshastic App : Radio Configuration>Module Configurations> Canned Messages and enable Canned messages. Enter CardKB on field called "Allow input Source" The first time you turn on the device, it will display "Canned Message Module Disable", just press the reset button and it will work properly. I designed this so that it is very simple for family or friends who are not tech savy to still be able to use Meshtastic for communications with me
Nice, do you have affiliate link for Heltec wireless paper board?
