Love the videos!
Thank you Doc!
Great work bro
Yes! I’m in school to be a drug counselor and I will more than likely begin some sort of social work in the future. With all this horrific information being exposed about the music industry and hollyweird, and their connections to government agencies that’s supposed to protect the babies?!?!?! Ifeel this!!
@@JessicaHussong-e4e gotta help each other maneuver through it all!
I want to go in social work butttt you just scared me 😂 3 tryssss must be hard 😮
@@BeeDivine777 😂 lol it can be stressful and daunting. However, it can be passed. There are other options in Social Work that doesn’t require licensure you could do as well. Just all depends on what your goals are in the profession!
Underrated af? I’m finna sub bro ❤
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
THE MOST AMAZING JOB ANY ONE CAN DO IS KNOWING YOU POSITIVELY IMPACTED A CHILDS LIFE AND HELPED SHAPE WHO THEY GROW UP TO BE BECAUSE SOMEONE TOOK THE TIME TO LISTEN AND HELP THEM NOW THATS WHAT TRUE CHARACTER IS ALL ABOUT 💪🏼🫶🏼💯
As a white woman and a therapist, it was so inspiring to hear your views and encouraging words of wisdom. I am not okay with a white-female dominated field when we are talking about the mental wellbeing of all people. Black, Brown, Indigenous People, LGBTQIA+ this field is dire need of representation. I believe when people can see themselves represented in a field, it helps inspire that population. There is something profound that can happen when marginalized and underrepresented groups have the opportunity to connect with someone who looks like them, perhaps has shared similar experiences that are unique to a culture, a group, or a population. It's so important to the mental wellbeing of society as a whole and how we are connected. I loved your video(s) and have tons of respect for your desire to inspire black men to consider making a difference by entering this field. Being a therapist is an amazing career on every level. It starts with taking responsibility and taking a stand for change. I am building a platform for therapists to be represented for all of the reasons you mentioned, because this white woman can. And we will all be better for it. Much love Trey. Kept fighting the good fight.
@@theshiftmastersessions thank you so much for the heartfelt words! 🙏🏽
@@GTaylorShow Chris Brown said we should connect. Did you get my email?
Thank you so much
You’re welcome!
Excellent Podcast ❤
I was diagnosed wirh ADHD last year i am 48 I was beaten as a child for my behavior and struggles so i was quiet in my 20-30s but recently really struggling i take vyvanse ita helps some this was dope.
Getting glasses for the semester mannnn, wish I would have.
Love this. New sub
As a Black Man who has known something was different in my brain than those around me, who saw his journey in my daughter's elementary school ADHD diagnosis experience, and who was diagnosed at 57 late last year your dialogue is refreshing. Brother Wes, I so saw myself as you were struggling to organize the many ideas in your head while simultaneously attempting to make your point in real time. To create safe spaces for Black men and women to shed their masks, the stigma around Nerodiversity in the broader community, and the even greater weight of reproach within the Black community ( source: misinformation, miseducation, history with the medical establishment, etc.) we desperately need more conversations like this, as well as more trained Black practitioners to provide evidence based treatment interventions.
🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
There are many Black Men with graduate degrees in areas like Human Services, Educational Counseling and more. that try to go into the Social Work field, but don’t want to another Masters degree. I think there should be a bridge program to obtain the Degree/Hours. There are many that have experience in the Social Service field, which could be applied credit if some sort; just a thought.
I think the only way to make that happen is probably through field placement hours but to have applied credits to a social work program from a non-social work program wouldn’t translate. It’s the discipline difference between the two, the governing bodies and code of ethics that you are bound by once becoming a social worker.
YES! I am a two-time suicide attempt survivor and mental health and suicide prevention advocate. I agree with everything this gentleman has stated!
Thank God there are people are doing something. It’s really so easy to care & to help others. Sadly most people are intentionally ignorant or just uniformed. Everyone needs a new iPhone or some junk that doesn’t help anyone but themselves. Send me a link if I can donate or provide any resources or materials. I’m on LinkedIn. Faith Cutrell
A great topic and encourage make, connect and /or type into resources that build a sense of community, guidance, and knowledge to work around these things. If you or we create our own space to work through black issues and still be well rounded to handle these and other issues w/o asking for others permission when they make not care b/c they fighting their own battles or see no value.
Any tips for undergraduate as a Child and Adolescent studies with a concentration in foresnsic science I want to be a Family & school socila worker
I would say for your undergrad experience and graduate experience make sure you take advantage of the internships and even if you have the opportunity, fellowships to explore the various ways social work intersects in other healthcare positions, businesses, community, non-profit, federal, state etc. Just start to think out what an ideal work week would like and be open to new opportunities because they can lead you down a path that can still provide the same outcome you are looking for!
Hi thank you for this post !
I am a social worker and a therapist. I have master degrees in both and an MBA in Health Care Administration. Currently a shrink in a psych hospital.
Great words of wisdom! Black male with a recently earned BSW heading into my masters
Congratulations! Much success on the road to obtaining your MSW
Great. Keep up the good work. I am a social worker AND a therapist. I have master in both and an MBA in Health Care Administration. I currently work in a psych hospital.
Always fire, brotha!
My man!
This was dope, brotha! I enjoyed this and look forward to more!
Sounds pretty stupid to me.....He plays a game for a living, and makes a lot of money. Who do you think is telling him "no?" NO ONE. He's important to the team, and they can't be bothered to lose him.....He knows and his attitude will reflect that.
He’s also still young and learning how to navigate new found pressures and the spotlight. It can be a lot for someone
@@GTaylorShow So we're going to hand wave flashing a firearm and getting into fights with 17 year olds as "young and dealing with new pressures..." He makes 12 million this year and you think some guy who makes 100K "from his hood" is gonna be able to talk any sense into him? I know you need to fill your podcast up with some sort of talking points......but holy, lets ground something in some educated reality.
Never said that instance with the 17 yo was appropriate behavior, it’s not and any other instance. How do you define an “educated reality”? Do you know for certain every claim you just made to be true? Or is that your speculation and opinion of the matter based off some biased belief you have of him and/or rich athletes?
This is brilliant. Thank you
You’re welcome!
How can you avoid from the stock cooler from failing should I install an external trans cooler
I never figured it out. I did some research and some were installing external trans coolers as a result but at the time I needed a car bad so I traded it in
@@GTaylorShow I deleted my stock cooler the one I installed is a stand alone cooler only trans oil runs through it
Oh dope! I wish I would of looked into that
thank you for making this video, the information is very helpful
You’re welcome!
Dope! We need these!
As a black man who recently earned his MSW, I want to thank you for making this post. I served in that security role after under grad and felt like the token while in graduate school. Like you, my eventual goal is to have a private practice and definitely advocate for more of us in this field. We are less than 30% of the workforce, but Blacks make up way more as clientele. Thank you again my brotha! PS- any advice on what to study for the LSW exam?
Absolutely brotha! It’s that shared experience. I actually did a podcast episode on my experience with the clinical exam and some tips and strategies that worked for me. Check it out here: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/everybody-relax/id1459188130?i=1000492816751
Let's go
How do you encourage aggressively competitive men who refuse to subscribe to victim ideology to embark on a career which typically employs no more than 15% men?
If they don’t want to be in the helping profession than they may not be a good fit. It takes some compassion and inner work to enter this field it’s not something that’s glamorous but there are opportunities to craft the type of work you want to do and make the change you want to see should they choose to accept all that comes with it. The demand is heavy so as the need grows which it will the more we need black men in this space
Glad to say I’m newly licensed class of 22. I will say my transition through SW school was some what challenging because of my intersectionality. Being Muslim and black male. I would attribute some of my difficulty to the school I attended. Here In Baltimore we have two choices for SSW programs UMaryland Baltimore and Morgan. I was duped into believing Morgan wasn’t as prestigious as UMaryland Baltimore. Coming from Coppin State this PWI very political and a cultural shock.
I think a lot of times we are told what programs are or where we should go without hearing from students who look like us (although not many) to see what their experience is! We sometimes have buyers remorse
I really like your framework when it comes to social work. I am a social worker with the VA hospital and I love just being real with my veterans and telling them how it is. It really allows me to build a rapport with all my clients and I love working outside of the norms of the typical social worker.
Absolutely, rapport is the first step to building the therapeutic relationship
He is right I just got my MSW in 2021 and most places just want to hire you because you are a black male. But I look at it as a good thing because we really do need more representation in the field. Great content keep it up!!!
Facts! We can still use it to our benefit but we are so much more!
Good to know, I graduate in August!
This is an amazing video . I really needed that hear this.
I’m glad! Has to be said!
