#29 Love is.... grannie squares, apparently
This episode finds me making in no particular order. This is not the actual running order of what's happening because I forgot to make any notes.
I'm obsessed with making granny squares out of every scrap of yarn in this house and making granny slippers out of them for my secret Santa victim.
I've also made far far far too many origami page corner bookmarks and now I have to work out what I'm gonna do with them all.
I've been knitting two garter stitch baby blankets for my local knitting group's charity table and I'm gonna frog both because the frogging madness is upon me.
I'm also making a really simple garden stitch triangle scarf, or shawl if you prefer, to showcase some really beautiful plant died yarn from Nelly & Eve .

Ah look at that, 48 subscribers! I’m not sure about your vintage pattern’s claim to be the quickest jumper you’ll ever knit. I’m halfway through a Ranunculus by Midori Hirose just now, I only cast it on a week ago, and that includes much fannying about untangling the laceweight yarns I’m using, at this rate I’ll be wearing it in another week, boom. Very disappointing to hear about vintage types getting an inflated sense of their own worth by judging other people. That doesn’t sound like a community I’d like to be part of! You and the mister getting dressed up for the day for Goodwood Revival sounds like jolly good fun. Wishing all vintage lovers everywhere the greatest enjoyment however they choose to find it.

what a bummer about youtube deleting your subscribers. i didn't get unsubscribed so hopefully not all of your followers got removed. totally get what you're saying about gatekeeping. some people might not have the means financially or otherwise to go all in on something.

Sorry, UA-cam only just saw fit to notify me of your comment! Bizarrely after a few hours it reinstated all my subscribers so I'm now cruising on 51. Go me. Yes, exactly that. I'm not into making people feel bad about how much money they can spend on their hobbies.

I'd love to knit some vintage patterns one day. Where do you find is the best place to source them?

Jump in! They're fun. I've bought nearly all my vintage patterns in charity shops. I've also found a few vintage pattern books at car boot fairs but mainly I just keep checking the charity shops. They usually have a ringbinder full of them tucked away in a corner. There are quite a few people selling scanned copies on Etsy but I'm not really a fan of that because they often try to 'clean up' the copy and in my mind that ruins it. The V&A also has a collection of free vintage patterns on their website. Hope that helps! 😊

Wish I had snood suitable hair, that variegated pink one is fab. Those Sophie scarves look fantastic in their cake boxes, your colleagues will all be thrilled I’m sure. Agree that two Afternoon Teas in a row might not have been for the best 😂

That's one of my all time favourites to make. Of course, I'm very, very, biased, but I think anyone with hair length from a bob to mid-back is snood appropriate. I do get that they're a bit niche though! 😂

Interesting to read about sewn bind offs from the comments, I’m just about to finish a pair of toe-up socks and will give this a try. Another fun episode, you cover so many ideas! Epic and admirable progress with all your projects, I remain in awe! 😁

A sewn bind off is my bind off of choice for stretch. It's not too difficult, you just need to ensure you pull off enough yarn to do it.

I'm going to try it on the scrappy pair I'm currently making, I think.

I’m sure you tried this, but the sewn bind off or tubular bind off work for my toe up socks. I like a snug rib. I really enjoy these chats you have with us.💗

    • @TanisMakesStuff
      @TanisMakesStuff Рік тому

I've never tried either of those bind offs, I'll admit I'm a little bit intimidated by them after hearing people say they're tricksy but not that you've said it, a sock is a nice small project to give it a go. I'm going to attempt the tubular one. Wish me luck!

Your Sophie scarf croissants are going to be fantastic all in a box together! Your weaving looks wonderful, I love the cross hatched effect of the Zandra Rhodes yarn. Overall I’m impressed with your sheer output… what a lot you’ve achieved in a month! Looks like lots of actual crafting and less scrolling… must take a leaf out of your book.

I have set days that I work on things, Saturday is weaving day but that scarf has been on the loom for at least two months! Today should have been Gin Poodles and admin but I had to work in my day job most of the day today so I've got naff all done today.

So great to spend sometime with you, Tanis, loving your UA-cam. Thanks for all the inspiration, your Stephen West MKAL yarns are absolute beauties. I splashed on an Advent in January and have been disciplined about buying more until I've at least dented it and finished off a few WIPS, so no festivals or shows for me this year, but an enjoying vicarious shopping with you - your purchases are lovely (the macaron!). I'm planning to go to Unravel in Feb so hopefully see you there. All my sympathy with regard to the mammogram experience: my last one left me with literally torn flesh, a long lesion under one of my b00bs, and no apology or sensitivity shown. I'm grateful for the screening, but the experience is horrible. Happy knitting 🙂

I really hope I do see you at Unravel in Feb, it would be lovely to see you. I'm trying to knit from stash but I'm too easily tempted... That's a horrible experience, like you say we're grateful for the screening but I absolutely know that you shouldn't be injured by a mammogram. I don't want to make a complaint but I'm definitely not going back to that clinic for my next one.

I'm impressed with your first attempt at weaving! It's always tricky starting a new craft as an adult because we judge ourselves to such a high standard, forgetting that we have to learn before we can be good!

Thanks, it is pretty ropey but I'm sort of ok with that. The one I'm doing now looks much better, while it's still on the loom anyway, but you're right I do kind of expect to churn out a near perfect example straight out of the box.

I love your jumper! I've knitted with one of Erika Knight's yarns, and it was lovely. Your socks are so pretty too. That pattern has been on my radar for several years, it works so well with any number of yarn combinations.

Yes I think I've also used her Wild Wool for something or other in the past and that was lovely too. I'm tempted to cast on another pair of those socks because the pattern is so good for experimenting with colour combinations but.... so many patterns to knit....
