Congratulations once again on an incredible effort. Nice that they put a finish line out especially for you. 😆 Views were simply stunning and nice to see the local wildlife too. That said, I can understand how disappearing paths and subsequent mud would get annoying. Nice to see Spine Race leader, Chris. I'll be honest and say, you're not selling it to me.

Yes the flagstone are a great idea, it sure makes it easier when crossing the damp/soggu patches along the way. What a pity they did not have that in the mid 1970s when I did the PW North to South and again in 1980, inbetween I server in the UK Army. Tony the Retired Hiker in Essex.

@@philandminiphil As an Ex Military Man I Thank You for Supporting the Veterans Charities. I did this to get fit, something I only admitted once the Basic Training was finished, most of the other recruits were 5 to 6 yrs younger than me, even the Training NCOs where impressed and commented it was something they will try once they themselves leave the Military and one even commented it could answer how I was so good at map reading while on Training Exercises, I served for 3 Yrs including 1 tour of NI (Belfasts Turf Lodge) and a 2yr tour in Gibraltar in the Infantry (2Bn Queens Regt.) After I left the Army I returned to the PW to do a North to South route and a few years after did both a West to East and the following year an East to West Coast to Coast, then went on to do a Lands End to John OGroats followed the year after with a John OGroats, then a gap year before setting off for a Circumnavigation of the UK Mainland (that took me 5 years). My 5's are still perfect after almost 500 miles on 2 Caminos in Spain and Portugal. Interestingly their undersides look quite different than yours. I have 2 pairs since I like them that much and they both look diff. to yours...are you sure they are genuine ?

That's an interesting concept. Fake Altras, do they exist? I bought mine from a reputable supplier from whom I have bought quite a few items and they were happy to replace them, I assumed, after contacting the manufacturer. I do like my Topo Pursuits that I wear now, they aren't as spongy for comfort in the sole but they are much more hard wearing on the uppers.

Cheers Phil. First of all can I say huge congratulations on completing the ultra. You did absolutely brilliant. Regarding the socks, it’s fair to say they had a baptism of fire - in many ways, the acid test. Although not perfect, I’m trying to imagine how bad your feet would be if you’d been wearing standard running socks? My feet are an absolute mess after yesterday’s marathon - both physically and visually. Ground in mud which even after a long soak and nail brush is hard to completely remove. 100% certain I will lose three toenails at the very least as they're very sore. If I'd had these socks, sure it would be different.

Thanks Phil for filming this. Course looked great, apart the odd navigational issue. Plenty of greenery and paths looked decent. We love the sign at 18:16. 😆 So sorry you weren't able to finish. Bitterly disappointing, especially so close to the end. I really don't know what you could've done better. You were going along great guns early on and were keeping yourself fuelled with water, gels, flapjack and even had a cup of tea. Why did you suddenly struggle to take on food? After the earlier episode, you seemed to pick things up again and be back on track. Just one of those things. How are you now. Hope you've recovered ok. Regarding 100 marathon club, it riles me why a DNF at a checkpoint beyond marathon distance is not accepted as a credit on marathon totals. If a runner is proved to have got to checkpoint then it should count. Something for club to consider, maybe?

Cheers Phil. Another entertaining video. Looked a great adventure but navigation would be a major concern. I would 110% get lost. Start of route reminded me of an off road Boston UK Marathon with farmer's fields aplenty but it did get more picturesque as race progressed. Mile 11 took 22 mins? I completed a couple of those during toughest spell at LLCR130. Always strange when runners don't say hello. Maybe they were in awe at meeting a legend like yourself? 😆 Frustrating regarding Hull marathon but Munich will be something to look forward to. Am I right in saying Munich is a Hyde Park Harriers club run? The bloke who mysteriously appeared in front is annoying but perhaps he just got lost? I imagine that would be easy to do. As you say, it's on his conscience- that's if he has one. 😆 It’s a shame when you talk about quitting running but it's all about doing what makes you the happiest. Just being out there is a blessing.
