    commenting again now that I've watched the whole video! It was really interesting watching you fight with a sub 36" weapon. Back when we fought in Barrie, you equated fighting with our 36's as "Knife Fighting" as we were so close to each other. I could definitely feel a difference in your fights between wearing and not wearing armour or head gear. I know these hard foam weapons don't exactly hit lightly, so it makes sense. How experienced was the person you were fighting in the second round of fighting videos? He seemed nervous and unsure of his actions basically the entire time.

    Thanks again for making this video, it was super interesting! I'm glad you caught so many details, like Tristan's left-handedness, and the fact that there aren't any weapons in the castle... (trust me, there's a reason for that) I know the claymore sticks out, buuuut I love them a lot and think they're cool and easily recognisable so that's my excuse lol Ooh, I was taught to grip a longsword with one hand on the pommel, so I wonder if that's a style difference (or if I am an idiot LOL) Once again your help was absolutely invaluable, thanks for everything! (If you make another video once the full game releases I would 100% devour it)

    Hey I got featured! Was a great time sparring. Largely agree with what you said and I always hold the cinquedea with the flat facing my opponent. I have a few little noted to consider on my own Cinquedea speculations. 1. I don't believe actual cinquedea's are as flexible as the Castille trainer. Most daggers tend to be made more rigid than swords and although I haven't handled a real one, most that I've seen in museum displays have pretty thick blades. So I would imagine that aids in the parrying. 2. I think it's a more viable weapon in its context. For starters, there are cinquedea swords (as in full sword length ones), which were probably descendents of the Oakeshott type XIV sword. So it probably has a bit more cutting ability or might be more focused on draw cuts. In addition, in the 16th century, these were usually carried alongside a sword and sometimes other daggers too. Why? Swords were getting longer and were getting worse at indoor fights. So I think in the context of using it in a brawl or against a cheater in a gambling den, you get a short weapon with a lot of blade presence that will bully other knives and daggers but is easier to use up close than a sword. 3. Last to consider, the Castille one is a very long example, but ones of its shape would probably do great on a thrust because even if the whole blade doesn't make it into someone, you only need about 4 inches (10cm) to make it into someone to be lethal typically. So I think it would still be a solid self-defense tool for that reason. I really want to get my own Cinquedea after sparring with you! They're fun to use and I'd love to experiment with one of them in one hand and a parrying dagger in the other hand against swords.

      Hello!! it was fantastic getting to fence you also!! you are absolutely correct about those many great deal of things! 1) for sure, i don't thik any cinquedea are flexbile at all for it being so straight, board and rather short. thoug i am so curious though, how would it parry. I have a few replica and they are stiff, so i have no doubt their parrying capability would be far superior to this castile version. 2) I imagine someone would carry sevral of these and pull out the one depending on the sizing and room restriction! hahaha that'll be funny to be a sight of. Also, i am not suprise if someone carries a Cinquedea, while also carrying a dagger or some sort. 3) I find the Castile to not be long enough! hahaha. though i seen that there are many example that are as short as a foot and some are as great as two and a half feet, which is...rather more sword like. But yes i agree, i still would carry a cinquedea as a fashion statement piece and self defence use if i was sent back to the 16th century. Overall, a mega lovely neat little weapon. Oh! i'd love to spar with you again if you ever want to try the Cinquedea again. Another great analogue that i use are the synethic cinequedea. they have no flex adn are shorter. Black fencer made one, purple heart armoury too also made one. But i also find myself holding it thumb to the blade, rather than the conventional method. Perhaps we can pick some up and test it out again in spar :D

    To me, the beauty of a blade is it's balance, how it feels in the hand, how it handles. Secondary is its looks. Overall, the a Pappenheimer is a truly beautiful blade. I love mine. I used to spar in the SCA, and it did what I needed faithfully, making meca better fencer.

    • @kinchan4548
      @kinchan4548 11 місяців тому

      Hello!! i am so sorry that my words were muffied and also very labored!! The washer is there because this particular pommel that I had, has a slight hollow part to it, so it doesn't joint up to the handle as nice as the original sphereical one. So with the help of the washer, it is just for this particular pommel's use. however, when you get the original sphereical pommel that comes with the blade, it sits true and solid without any raddling nor looseness. Main reason why I swapped to a pommel is.... i just like the look of this pommel that I have and..umm. my sphereical one actually rolled away under my work desk and lost somewhere in the darkholes of voids.
