Yes, the hoods are very usable. I just fitted them to my CX bike. They are just amazing. A great cross between a straight and drop bar. You get the width of a straight bar, so WAY more control off road than drops, no comparison. And you get all the hand positions of drops, but its SO much more comfortable. UNEXPECTED BONUS, the angle of the STI levers, means changing gears is much better, you get much more power so changing down 3 or 4 gears on the right lever is now much easier. These bars have completely changed the way i feel about getting on my CX bike, due to all of the above i now take on much more difficult terrain, with the confidence that i have on a mountain bike with straight bars. Why aren't these the standard CX bars? To me they are the perfect bar for CX.
