I love this version of this song; I grew up listening to it because my uncle used to play it at home. I always loved that, despite having blues themes, it also has flamenco elements.

A blues song over one hundred years old, covered in the 70s from a flamenco Chilean band at the height of the disco era so it's a fusion of not two but THREE genres and cultures. Amazing. Would have been absolute FIRE to see Santa Esmeralda live. Especially Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Honestly this is up there with The Animals and BTO versions which are of course fire.

I saw them live in 1979 at the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile. To this day his performance is remembered as one of the great moments of that Festival. The theme included a performance with flamenco dancers, something unrepeatable today. They were great, shame they had a short career in the rankings.
