Bellissima moto, bel video. Esistono i pezzi di ricambio per questo motore SWM ex Husqvarna?
@@marcobellomo9034 Thanks for your kind words. You can buy parts from SWM but all the parts for the PR7 are readily available here in Australia through the importer. There is also a growing band of dealers. In Europe there is also a growing band of dealers and U can buy direct from the AJP website I would assume. Thanks for watching Regards Steve
The PR7 was the only bike I seriously considered as an alternative to the 701e. I'm pretty sure I'd have been completely happy with the PR7 but I was worried about how far away the closest dealer was (2-3 hours vs. 35 minutes for the 701). But I did end up with the 701 and set it up for ADV (TAT/BDR riding in the US)... and at that sort of riding it IS very fast. I think these two bikes are probably likely to be the fastest bikes for long ADV tours on routes like US BDR's (at least with bigger guys)... possibly the Kove might be close and certainly the ktm 500's might also if you're willing to ignore dealer service intervals (I'm not), though the smaller bikes will struggle on fast dirt road and occasional paved sections we have to deal with. I did put a Scotts damper on the 701 and I'm glad I did... on silty/sandy roads I turn it up and it keeps hidden ruts from throwing me off like used to happen without the damper (or "as often" at least). Given how I tend to ride fast on offroad adv I think the 701 might be a BIT better fit for my riding style than the PR7... but as I said I think I'd have adjusted to the pr7.
@@kuhndj67 Yeah valid point's both these bikes you talk about are great options and only a few minor points seperating them. As U say access to a dealer or a bias to one sort of riding terrain can be enough to sway you. Both great bikes. Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Great to see ya back on the horse Steve!
Nice comparison, had a 690 for several years before the 790R and 890R. Just loved it. Been riding the PR7 on extended testrides and i really like it. It really comes as a very capable package out of the box. Keep it up! ✊️✊️
The seat on this thing is amazing. Super high quality, very dense, elastic foam that resembles memory foam and feels like you can sit for hours.
Yeah agreed it's as good as it gets for a flat seat that still allows you to move around on the bike like a dirt bike. Just did four days straight on mine and it's no problem. Video out soon. Thanks for watching, Regards Steve
Thanks a ton and hello the States. I've been off-roading my KTM 990 since new in 08 and love, love, love it. However, it is getting older and so am I at 60. When I bought the 990, few knew what it was and that was kinda cool. The PR7 seems similar...especially in it's simplicity and fun to ride category. They are rare here in the States so seeing one, much less riding one is almost impossible. Therefore, these kinds of reviews are invaluable....thanks. I was wondering if the PR7 responds to smaller front or bigger rear sprockets to help in in slow, more technical terrain. I've done that to all my other ADV bikes and it has always helped. Thanks again for your video and looking forward to getting back down to your fantastic country. Cheers from the mountains, canyons, and deserts of Utah.
Hi Todd, thanks for your reply. To be honest I have not played around with the sprockets on my bike it is the stock gearing and it works for me. I agree with you on changing front and rear sprockets can help with a particular type of riding. I just use my AJP for big trips and ADV style riding, for this the stock gearing is perfect. If you were going to do some technical slower style riding I would increase the rear sprocket size as I feel like it adds a bit more torque down low that's my gut feel. I have just come back from a 4 day trip up into NSW which was my first trip back from a hip replacement so to say it was fun is an understatement. I do love the PR7 it is very easy to get along with. I would love to ride the BDR's you have in the States one day particularly Utah looks amazing. A great place to live for an ADV rider. Thanks for watching, Regards Steve
All this bike needs is a couple of washers in the front fender mount to bring it down in the front. Right now it looks like a bird beak sticking up in the front. 😎

Your videos are very good, beautiful machine, please translate into Spanish. Many questions
Help me I'm undecided between this and the V-strom 650
@@hectorvelasquez7626 Will reply properly later tonight.... Very good question
Hi Again, Having not ridden a Vstrom I am not super qualified to comment but here are my thoughts. The biggest difference is the Tenere 660 is a single cylinder where as the Vstrom of course is a twin. That in itself could make the decision for you. (the Vstrom as a result has considerably more power as well) The Tenere has a bit of vibration you have to deal with where as I am sure the Vstom would be more civilised. The next big difference is the off-road capability. The Tenere has more ground clearance and I think in general is more capable off road. Aloy wheels on the Vstrom earlier models are pretty fragile if you really want to push it off road compared to spoked wheels on the Tenere. Both great bikes. If I was you work out where you plan to go and buy the bike that best suits that purpose. If you want to take it of road and really push the limits of where a big bike can go it's the Tenere. If you just want to do some rough gravel roads and cruise around on the open roads go the Vstrom. Will have a look if I can do a Spanish translation on the video Regards Steve
Translate into Spanish amigo. Good video, how about the machine for long trips, it vibrates a lot
You can go into your CC (Closed Captions) in your settings turn them on and and then choose Spanish is the simplest way.
Yeah there is bit of vibration as it is a 660CC single but it is not an issue at all for me
I noticed in your video the bike is on a 2x4, and it looks correct. That is one gripe I have with my 390 RS, the kickstand is at least an inch too short. I put heavier springs for 270lb rider, and it made it ever worse. They don't offer an extension or a longer kickstand.
@@mk3driftmotion Yeah it is a bit of an issue I agree. Has a great aftermarket stand on my previous 480 which was good but very expensive Thanks for watching Regards Steve
Excellent fair comparison. AJP PR7 for me after owning 3x 690s. Good bikes but for al the reasons you stated PR7 tops them.
I have had stedi led lights on a bike before and they work very well but just like having spotties on a car only much smaller
How many Km have you put on your AJP PR7 now?

Great video. Has the ignition been faulty since? My 2022 model has shown similar symptoms. After a ride, went to turn on the ignition and nothing? Turned the key a few times and was able to get it started to get home. Will have a look at the barrel. Was it easy to remove and pull apart? Anything that wasn't shown on the video I need to be aware of. Thanks
@@Chris_Z. Yeah it's just the electrical fitting on the bottom of the ignition barrel. It did it too me again so I just replaced it. Unfortunately U have to buy the whole key set, fuel cap and seat lock to quiet expensive. Next time I would try and find barrel manufacturer and see if they will sell the wiring fitting of the bottom. It's a domed plastic fitting that you would have seen in the vid. Pretty easy to get too really. Glad someone could get some good advice from my problem Regards Steve
@@dirtbikeadv Hi. Found the issue with mine after taking the Ignition switch apart. One of the wires [red] had broken off at the solder joint. I have re-soldered this and checked the others also. Gave them a good clean as well. Hopefully this fixes the issue.

So that Toolkit is $45USD plus $68 Delivery = $170 AUD. Is that what you paid Steve?
@@dave-orourke Yeah but I bought some MX gear and a couple of other things so it was quite a sizeable order so the delivery was not such an issue and quite reasonable. That seems a bit excessive for a small socket set I must say. I just did a sample purchase myself and I got quoted $68 as well to Australia but added a few things and the delivery did not change. That's way dearer than what I paid a year ago. Obviously they have put their delivery cost up. Sorry if I have mislead U 😔

Did you do any remapping of the ecu for the rade garage airbox? I heard the bike will run too lean with the stock fuel map and that filter
@@pinpox No I didn't to be honest and noticed no difference. Don't quote me on this but bikes with oxygen sensors can adapt I believe. Yeah always liked the bike except for the big high rear seat and fender. Seeing they are bit older and cheaper now I didn't have a problem modifying it a bit and it really made it look better I thought. Thanks for watching, Regards Steve
I have a 2023 KTM 890 Adventure R and they do have serious problems with quality control. Brand new bike, tires flat, so I take it to dealership and they fuck around and a few weeks later, tires flat again, take to dealership and they fuck around then a month or so later tires flat. Something is wrong with the rims that make it really hard for them to hold air. They hold air now but I think the dealership got sick of me and pumped a bunch of slime in them. First month of riding and coolant leak, upper radiator hose connection. I do not take it to the dealership but instead buy my own silicon hose set and clamps and take the whole fucking bike apart and replace the hoses myself, hasn't leaked since. First time washing the bike, and turn signals shorted and stuck on. I fuck around and find the internal wiring on the instrument cluster has nicked wires and pinched wires so I order a new one. New one comes and I check the inside to make sure its ok but I must take apart the whole faring and get the very back of the enclosure to a bracket and undo the plug from bracket and put the new one in, very difficult job. Put the bike back together only to find another wire pinched and shorted on the engine kill switch, WTF, I just splice it this time as I wasn't in the mood to go through what I just went through. Now I worry about the cam wiping problem, its not the cam but an oiling problem. The oil passage to the head has a screen that can get blocked causing lack of oil to the head and thus cam. my plan is to buy a wrecked bike and take the engine out and have it built with hot cams and solve the oil passage issue and when the cam gets wiped in my original engine just swap them. How successful I am with this plan remains to be seen. Otherwise the bike is a beast!
Yeah the bike concept is brilliant and the day I go to a twin they will be top of my list. (Probably put a Rade tower on cause I don't like the praying mantis look) Nice size engine, about as big as I would go, fuel down low, plenty of seat options, 18-21 wheels.... bloody shame they are having these quality issues. Mate has got a 701 and he found an oiling issue on his as well but he got to it on time before it damaged anything. You've had a shitty run, hopefully you'll get a few good years out of it now. Thanks for watching, Regards Steve
@@dirtbikeadv Yes, Im considering the rally tower as the stock fairing design is actually quite fragile. I have gone through 3 windscreens since 2023. Something tells me after riding the Tenere 700 that had more of a rally design that it also blocks the wind better.
Ride report: just got back from a 3 week adv ride in Portugal and Spain and my two sisters rode the Himalayan 450s and didn't like the experience at all. Problems are design, the foot pegs are in a position that makes it difficult to move the bike around because you feel the need to put feet in front of the pegs but that give little movement ability so there's something off in that design choice. The seat is shaped in a way that doesn't make it easy to maneuver the bike, its closer to a saddle design instead of a dirt bike design so it spreads your legs out wider and coincidentally takes away from reach to the ground. My sisters daily riders are Triumph tiger 900s and they say they have way way more foot reach than the 450s, that's a big problem. The bikes can be over sprung too and mid trip we had to find a dealership to adjust the spring on one bike because the rider was only maybe a buck fifteen and couldn't touch but with tippy toes and had to let all the spring out only to find the improvement was marginal. The good: bike sips gas, in comparison I was riding a Tenere 700 and had to gas up twice for ever one of the 450. They can cruse at 70 to 80 MPH of 80 to 130 KPH no problem. final thoughts, potentially a great great bike but poor design choices are going to have customers disappointed after purchasing them, especially female riders. Both my sisters were overjoyed to get back to their Tigers and said the overall experience with those bikes was disappointing.
Hi Johnny B, great insight there really appreciate the feedback. When someone makes comments like you have done it helps a lot of us. We can now go to the dealership and sit on the bike and have a feel on what the seat, suspension and foot pegs feel like and see if it's a deal breaker for us. You have highlighted some of these points without totally degrading the bike and have included some positives. Great Stuff. Myself I like flat seats so I can easily move around on the bike so I would give that some due consideration when testing Himalayan. Thanks to you and you sisters for the feedback. Regards Steve

Steve, I have to ask about vibrations to the grips and bars running single cylinders bikes between these two. Any feedback on the feedback of these two bikes? Lol, pardon the pun 😂
@@markrichardson8382 That is ripping pun. Yeah the 2018 690 might have a tad more vibration than the PR7 but that's mainly the bigger engine. Have ridden a couple of the later models with the extra counter balance shaft and effectively they are probably the same now. To be honest I don't notice any vibration as I don't grip the handle bars very tight. It is very minimal on both bikes I would say but I appreciate it is a very personal thing Thanks for watching Regards Steve
I went on the AJP site for a look, finding out that the bike costs over 19k in Australia turned me off straight up. I went 690, it still needs mods and is expensive in its own right. Should be comparing the 19 and up model.
Yeah agreed the price new is an issue for me as well. (Bought my AJP second hand so it was bargain) I was comparing the later model 690/701as I have owned the 2018 model but ridden two of the later 2019 on models. All the tech I talk about on the 690's is on the later models and not the bike I owned. The reality here is it is great to have these two offerings in Australia they really hit the mark for me on lots of levels. Sorry for the late reply forgot to get back to you on this one Regards Steve
I've never ridden an AJP nor seen one in the flesh, and I've probably spent collectively an hour on a 690 which I was quite impressed with. I've owned a DR650 and frankly I sold it as it was hands down the most boring bike I've ever owned. But for me, with all that I've seen, read and heard, it'll be a PR7 for me when I have the funds to make it happen. I too like simple bikes and my limited experience with KTM ownership has not been great. Great comparison, thank you.
