@@carlovelasquez6081 Carnivorous plants require lots of light to thrive. For your reference, I use 40 watts grow light 14hrs daily for my tank. I think you can start experimenting with your current light setup and adjust according to how your plants react

Thanks for your comment! A lot of considerations were taken into building this terrarium, for example non-uniform light source so that nepenthes receive less light than sundews despite on the higher elevation, different soil composition and depth for different moisture needs, etc. It is quite challenging but that is also the fun part of designing terrariums! The terrarium has been running fine for ~4 months. Many of the plants seem pretty happy for now. We will see if it works in the long term!

and what are the soil mixes you used at 2:25? I see peat, sand, wood chips. Is that grey component gravel? Thanks

Hmmm I did not keep track of the exact number, but given that I stuffed so many carnivorous plants into this terrarium the total cost was not low. It also depends on where you live and which nursery you buy from. Would be cool to be updated about your terrarium project!

​@@realhazelhlly The grey component is lava rock as a porous medium. I used it to replace perlite which annoyingly float around :) For the left most glass of soil mix, from top to bottom, they are: chopped sphagnum moss, peat, fir bark, coarse sand, lava rock.

@@tommylee1285 thanks for the advice! Yeah focusing on the aesthetics feels like the way to go. There are already plenty of pro-level tutorials out there, so I hope my videos can showcase exotic plants & ecosystems in a different and inspiring way!
