Twiggy Trees are primarily the "resource management" version of Saplings that reward your patience for monitoring and maintaining them. They are easily reproducible since they drop two cones for replanting when cut down while they are Tall, meaning you don't _have_ to run around the entire world digging up Saplings to bring them back home, you could start with a few cones and end up with infinite of them given enough time, with potential excess cones being used as a low-level Fuel for fires with a 15 second burn time per cone, or being turned into extra Twigs by planting and digging them with a Shovel, meaning you really get 3 Twigs per harvest instead of the advertised 2 if you have the patience and excess Flint/Gold for making Shovels to do that. The real primary benefit are that they also produce one Log from the tree itself and one Log from their stump when dug up, meaning they produce half as many Logs as a fully grown Evergreen alongside their Twig production. On average, it takes ~11.5 days for them to reach the Tall stage, which means they technically produce faster than regular Saplings. 3 Twigs every 11.5 days is faster than 1-3 Twigs over 4-12 days, but RNG can make them produce slower sometimes, or sometimes even faster. They continue to grow during the Winter and don't wilt during the Summer, meaning that over a full year they will eventually produce more Twigs than what Saplings can during the same time frame. But the real alternative Twig producers are Spiky Bushes, which are similarly unaffected by the Winter and don't wilt during Summer, producing Twigs year round every 4 days. By wearing a Bramble Husk you completely negate the only real downside of them being the 3 health penalty from picking them, and this doesn't even drain the durability of the Bramble Husk which makes them plainly superior to Saplings if you are/playing with Wormwood. Explore your entire world and dig up as many of these as you can find, they spawn in the Swamp and both Deserts and are not renewable in any way. But really, all three alternative resources were primarily designed to have advantages that over a long game make them superior to their classic counterparts, with the disadvantages being that they are harder to capitalize on early. Juicy Berry Bushes produce more food and health in the same amount of time as regular Berry Bushes, but it takes relatively longer to reach said point (although I will note that since regular Berry Bushes have a shorter growth period, have a higher frequency of Gobbler spawns which is good for making Turkey Dinners which makes things more even, but it's not like Juicy Berry Bushes can't also produce Gobblers.) Same for Twiggy Trees, they produce more resources in the same time frame, but it takes longer for them to reach that point. Grass Gekkos are different in that they grow faster than Grass Tufts, 2 days instead of 3, and don't require fertilizer and continue to produce during the Winter, but they require more set-up since they need to be fenced in to protect them which can be a chore, or you need to collect Grass Tufts and put them in a pen to make them yourself which again, takes a long time.

Really cool video! I actually like twiggy trees. They are a bit of a pain in the first few days but in a world with twiggy trees you don't even need to have a twig farm. Whenever I'm out of base I just pick up the twigs that are lying near the naturally spawned twiggy trees and always have plenty

Two things I forgot in the video: Grass tufts and Sapling will grow back quicker in the rain. Grass gekkos can also spawn in the rocky part of a triple tusk biome.

Good video. Only thing I'd add is that I think his skill tree should give him minor upsides that bring his chopping/mining/damage up to normal at the cost of some major additional downsides.

As a Maxwell main I enjoy twiggy trees, early game i dont need twigs with my servants and later down the line i just make a twiggy tree farm and get my servants to chop it all down. I do like your take on the juicy Berry subject. I do love my healing food

i tend to set up my base for long term benefit, and that is usually at the expense of my immediate needs. i always set up grass tufts first in the general area that i want my gekko farm to be, knowing itll be a while till the gekkos spawn. and i never use saplings just cause i use my twiggy tree farm as decoration usually around my bees cause i go there pretty often anyways. but sticks is something that im lacking in the early game, i just collect them as i go about my business

i think a walk speed debuff would make him a lot hardr. and maybe item debuff also. like the walking cane is only as good as woodies wooden can, and football helmet only absorbs 70% damage instead of 80, which would make is low health a bigger issue. and maybe the tam would only be as good as a top hat

Why is he happy tho? Have you seen other survivors?

One thing I disagree with is low health being a downside. If you’re wearing armor then 75 health is still plenty of wiggle room and all it means is that you have to heal more often. You don’t have to heal MORE overall, just more often, which I guess makes the character harder but not by an awful lot. Otherwise good video and I also want to see his skill tree make him worse. Perhaps we’ll get it on April fool’s.

Customizable downsides is such a good idea. Not sure if it'll happen though since skill trees are supposed to make a character better :D

Walter is set up in a way that you can't use the same strategies as most of the other survivors. People see no football helmet or backpack and they get scared (which is fare enough), but you don't need to avoid Walter. He just has a different play pattern You don't have to use a character specific item just because it is character specific. You don't have to use the slingshot all the time. I've heard many time people say that wigfrid"s battle spear isn't that good. If your ok not using a character's specific weapon with wig then same applies here. People say "it's good for hunting birds and rabbits but that's about it"... And that's not enough for you? Hunting food that is available every season and literally falls from the sky isn't enough for you? It's also good to get the first hit on a koalaphant saving time. "Oh you go insane so fast". Ya and some people say being insane all the time is optimal so why isn't that seen as a plus? Take off the hat and pick some cactus and then use that cactus to make spicy chili so you don't get sanity back but get some health.

I don’t think anyone’s critiquing him without playing him. I think they played for 5 min and got into a sanity death spiral. A few mistakes as Walter is a death sentence which just doesn’t justify the convience of sanity management

The thing with Walter that most people don't understand is that his pinehat is an absolutely necessary item. If you plan to play him in a combative way use his body slot for armor rather than crafting a backpack and helmet heck don't even make a backpack thats what Woby is for. By utilizing the extra inventory from your pet you can freely use most bodyslot items without having to worry about dropping anything you also lose alot less sanity.

This was eye opening. We both agree that his strengths are quite far and few between but with an ornery beefalo he actually gets some serviceable QOL perks which I previously excused as being irrelevant. Now I can see how the character can be appealing to people who prefer a more laid back play style. Also, I appreciate being critical towards the slingshot. This community likes to call everything OP and I get exhausted of what feels like heavily forced positivity, so I’m glad to see someone being able to admit faults of a character they enjoy. Wish this video good luck and let’s try to make Walter better via his skill tree!

I’ve been enjoying Walter a lot more after learning you can voidwalk and slingshot ancient guardian and fuelweaver with zero risk. Klaus with boat method. Nightmare werepig is more enjoyable since I don’t have to worry about his sanity drain and probably more stuff I don’t know about.
