The winch must be serviced. Disassemble and lubricate as shown here: ua-cam.com/video/EYo31dDaSXc/v-deo.html Be sure to clean and lubricate the threads on the wheels otherwise the wheels will not run freely and will not lock and open free fall. Lubricate the threads and exercise the wheels at least (10 min) by hand. You feel when everything is running smoothly

I live in miami and am on my third winch luckily the ft Lauderdale rep is a great guy but removing the piece of shit ,paying my mechanic Every time it fucks up is just too much and as god is my witness I always let out enough line that I can swing around up stream to put zero stress on the device so it only lifts the anchor oh yes I break the anchor free with the cleat . So lewmierda I’m now officially your worst ex owner imbarking on the balance of my life trashing your name . You owe me so maybe small claims . If you have any balls answer me here

It’s the free fall system. Read the manual. It is use when dropping the anchor in the water so your boat don’t need to use power. “Free fall” .

They do that right out of the box. Lewmar service is the worst. Do they really think people want to wait weeks to use their boat while you ship a brand mew winch to them to figure out what is wrong.

This was a brand new unit. I took it back to West Marine with the video and they just replaced it.
