Ahoy there, traveler! The name's Jessica. I am a creator and a storyteller, a full-time nerd and a part-time lots of other things. This channel has a heavy retro gaming focus but we will also be talking about classic movies, tv shows, music, and life matters that come up from the aforementioned discussions. I often stream on Twitch, and there will be some overlap between what I do there and here.

3D Blast Processing! Jessica Has a Birthday, Clears Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis 1996) (Good Ending)

It isn't my birthday when this premieres, but it was when I filmed the episode. :D This here is the Genesis version of Sonic 3D Blast, which in Mega Drive regions is known as Sonic 3D Flickies' Island. No, it will never really touch the quality of the purely 2D 16-bit Sonic games, but I think it's a cute, fun ride that doesn't deserve to be maligned as it often is. Played on original hardware r...

The raw footage of this stream and the ensuing export from Twitch to UA-cam was cut into two pieces because of a thunderstorm that disrupted the broadcast. The film has been recombined into the continuous experience it was intended to be in this reupload. This is the original Metal Gear Solid disc one being played on a real PlayStation, running on composite AV and recorded/broadcast using OBS.

You always could. 8 year old me didn't know?
@@EyepiFreeli I honestly don't even remember if I figured it out back in the 80s. When I saw the AVGN skit about it though, it slayed me.
I remember it was1988, or 1989.. I was just a wee lad, born in USA but living in Mexico in my parents village. The local *Farmacia* owner has just put in a crude arcade cabinet into his shop. It was funny cause the coin slot looked very strange, it had teeth. Turns out, the machine took very specific tokens that were custom made. You had to trade your pesos for tokens, because many pesos were of similar size for different denominations. So to avoid being scammed, you could only trade certain value pesos for tokens. The proprietor would trade 200 pesos (about 10 cents usd at the time} for one token. Kids would line up at the machine. I gave the lady at the counter a 2000 peso note, and got 10 tokens. When it was my turn, I had a go at the options. You could choose between several dozen NES games. You would pick your game first, and then insert your token. I chose TMNT: The Arcade Game. Luckily, there was no extra charge for a 2 player game, so I picked the best boy to join me, and we got to fighting. 5 or 10 mins into the game, it paused. On its own. I don't know how it happened, and I could not unpause it, but another boy watching the hubris behind us shouted "You have to put another token in!". I did so, and the game continued. I played until my eyes burned, we didn't beat the game before my tokens ran out, but it was one of my most fondest, cherished memories. Thank you for reminding me of those times.
Thank you so much for sharing that story, it was touching. ❤ It genuinely brightens my day that this video could reconnect you to those wonderful memories. Was a bit mean spirited for the cabinet to be designed to stop and ask for more tokens even if you haven't died, but I'm glad at least it was accessible.
Big Dreamcast fan, luckily from there ashes it lived on a bit on the Xbox 😉 Nice vid!

Oh, man. Is it me, or am I seeing a hotty chick wearing a Mountain Dew body suit and riding a jet hoverbike by the name of Kari Kelley who’s nickname is Wild Ride?
Yep, I remember this game. Over in the last…28 years, my little brother, Adrian and I used to play this rather a lot back then when it came out for the PlayStation 1 game console. I don’t exactly remember who Adrian was always on this game, but I remember I was always Shane Irons from the Mountain Dew team group.

@@jessicasretrolunacy Yes, it could be AITD or the last horror game released IllBleed is a good game. Then I think Shenmue 2 is better just a little long story for me. I like more 2p-4p co-op games like Zombie Revenge, House of the Dead 2, or Demolish Fist too (have you tried Atomiswave ports?) when I was preteen I had Genesis and one of the most addicted games for me was Streets of Rage saga, play with secret chars like Shiva and all that, always liked fighting games (don't know why maybe to distress and isolate from dayly family issues). Anyway Sega seal was always an arcade co-op playing style (The company mainly is an arcade corp) that ' s also why Dreamcast was made with 4 joysticks you know, just a pain it was discontinued too early but here we are the fan community to update it!
@@romagnuslarsson7065 I haven't gotten around to the Atomiswave conversions yet but I'm definitely interested! We're hoping to pick up House of the Dead 2 but waiting to find a good deal on a light gun, it's not a game I want to play only with a controller if I can help it. :)

Over here in Australia, the PS5 Pro is going to be over $1000. More proof that gaming from the 90s and the early 2000s will always be better.💯💯
Yeah it's truly absurd. At that cost there's no reason to not just invest in a gaming PC, at least then you can customize it and optimize it for games instead of all the bloat that comes with modern consoles now.
@@jessicasretrolunacy I have a gaming PC for 2 years now. I'm never going back to consoles.

The ps1 and ps2 are better than modern systems imo. Not graphically of course. But the games are more fun 😊

@@jessicasretrolunacy right!😎👍
I think SEGA could have saved the 32X by simply releasing their super scaler catalog at 10 Dollars a title.
That might've helped, but I think to succeed the 32X needed to have been on the market earlier to kind of do for the Genesis what the PS4 Pro did for the standard PS4. Kind of mid gen upgrade, instead of something that ended up competing with the Saturn. Failing that, it might've been better to scrap the 32X and put more 3D games on the Genesis with the SVP chip, kinda give the 16-bit gamers a taste of 32-bit gaming at a lower cost of entry, get them excited for franchises that would be Saturn mainstays.

Hello from Puerto Rico.
Why thank you, happy to make your acquaintance! Yes, the Dreamcast is a brilliant system ahead of its own time, but it was victim to a lot of bad choices by its company and the misfortune of bad timing.
Sony PlayStation one killed the Dreamcast
So yes --bad timing !!
@@BURRITO44 Sega defeated themselves as much as anyone else did. They bled money from too many sources and weren't able to recover quickly enough from their bad calls in the mid 90s, plus the drop of income from their arcade division. Nobody was going to beat the PS2, not the GameCube, Xbox, nor a Dreamcast supported by a financially healthy Sega. Sony outplayed and outmaneuvered everyone in the mid to late 90s and carried that momentum forward for almost the first full decade of the 21st century. But, a 1st party Sega that survived gen 6 would certainly have made gen 7 a much more interesting playing field...
