Do you have access as military to the shop at the PSFB? Thats about the only way possibly. I dont have insurances or guarantees. Before doing job must physically look at pan and count bolts. There are several configurations each year as these cars were hand built back then and got different lots of transmissions. 3rd time was the right one. Or pay dealer $200 for gasket. Even the online store in ohio looked up my vin and sent wrong parts 50% of the time. I feel you on this. Its a pain. Ive bought used cars for less than what audi charges in services. What i did notice is the car came back to life. The ohio shop had best price on the factory ZF fluid. Theres a lot to getting parts staged on these. Mine was in the air a month before completed.

Reassembly is fast, easy, not hard. Its an easy job, no tricks. I was amazed how easy. Then the hard part - Refill through bottom drain hole using pressurized unit, 3 quarts at a time. The messiest job ever. Takes years off your life probably from toxins for the liver - bathing in fluid even with gloves, in your hair, mouth, eyes. Fluid sputtering everywhere- sorry, not a snowball chance im filming that with me cell to ruin it with tranny fluid. Cant believe germans have any stage to talk about the environment. Needed to mop up fluid. As trans heats up the expansion rate of the fluid will flood out the fill hole, but let it until it stops - look at other videos for thier ideas of what is full. Got to get trans up to spec temp which isnt easy unless driven 10 min and then put back onto ramps and scald youself. Installed an extra quart also so it exchanged torq converter fluid more. Some repeat drain and refill to get ~75% renewed after driving a few days. Improvement from trans fluid change is remarkable - its been 2 years and it shifts like new still. ZF Germans get the global warming award for environmental polution.

Yes. I have to off notifications and/or turn off cellular calls - im using andriod so switches are different. for mine the music volume decreases for 2 sec on incoming call if not turned off. I sometimes use these at events and have to turn off the phone functions and pause emails to avoid disruptions.

that is amazing. when did you change out the cam chain tensioners on yours? Do you do just the pads? when did you change the chains ? Im loving this timing belt motor so far. its runs like a top. my favorite car to drive. a 900 mile trip with the seat massage on is just fun. if you are in the eastern US - got to take the A8L on RT10 west of Oceana West Virginia. its freshly paved and a complete amuzement park ride on the steep grade enter/exit switchbacks.

@@tonyd3266 we've got nothing like the chain tensionner of the fsi engine. Only small chain to link the camshafts. Same design as the 1.8T engine. You do it when it happens, mine took 3 timing belt before needing it. As far as spirited driving.... I do have a 2007 Audi S8 as well. It's a pig on gas despite being fsi because its a close ratio transmission. It revs higher in normal driving and it's a bigger motor I feel the massage seats are a letdown in audi until the 2011 a8. (D4) I service quite a few a8 so get to drive them. Starting in 2011 those massage are a LOT more thorought and adjustable. But Ill tell you this. D4 rust like crazy. They put steel subframes instead of aluminium like our D3 so they rot. I replaced one I could poke my hand through it . Dealer even failed to see that while doing alignment.... oh well, he's my client now.

@@tonyd3266 tensionner i replaced at 54x xxxkm but they were due around 500 000km. replaced the whole tensionner and even got a bad new one I had to fix.

@@Nordic_Mechanic dissimilar metals - I thought the germans knew better. Geeze a 2011 already eaten up…. Sounds like my first range rover tailgate. Germans are now into planned failure on some components- didnt know it was frames too. those smaller cylinder head chains between the cams. Mine has a short rattle on startup- so its time to swap the pads. Hope thats all it is. Did the timing belt myself last time and made cuts and convenient holes to remove everything faster next time, especially those crazy radiator bolts. Its already been 40K miles since the last service so a belt refresh is due. Im only dreading the radiator draining and smell of it. . Im jellious of S8 and W12 audi owners. Maybe some day… but im afraid of the replacement cycle costs on those - seems the regular high priced items double for S or W.

@@tonyd3266 landrover have nothing to do with german metals. They are piss poor magnesium alloys just like the ford. My climate here is BRUTAL on any subpar metals. D3 never EVER corrode. The worse rust ive seen is a rusted through damper tube (steel). Slow leak from pinhole. The air spring metal part really. Since the car had 255 000 miles and it was a 17 year old air spring. I give it a A+ anyways. Did you check my timing belt video? How I do it is rather simple. Only time consuming. S8 chain tensionner are the best, and those cars usually have the best maintenance so they do last a lot longer than 4.2 tensionners. Keep in mind only the top tensionner fail and get noisy and replacing them is a 1500$ if you get them done. If you do the chain on a V10 and W12 its an engine out and on the V10 some o2 sensors are engine out. So you do all 8 ...yes 8 o2 sensors on those engine. then you do rear and front main seals and basically you do every wear item while the engine and trans are out. Then you enjoy another 15+ years of troublefree. With good service youll never touch the chains again. When I bought the S8, I factored in the cost of engine out in my offer. If I have to do it, it's not gonna hurt me. Same with the 3000$ dollar intake manifold. The car appreciates in value faster than the maintenance cost.

The leaves between 700 feet in about 2000 were still green. The little trees along the roads for some reason are pretty colorful and then over 2500 feet had a lot of yellow and red’s. That was bought Mountain West Virginia which is where my family settled around The year 1825. We have really old cemeteries through there and revolutionary war patriots buried there

shifting is snappier. It really tunes it up. Just like changing out the brake fluid gives you great braking pedal - the new fluid breathes more life back into the tranny. especially since the new filter ensures you get full pressure to clutches and valving. see my not about the filter seal in comments. it was the only "difficult" part - and that was because I didnt have the right tool. Assume you have the 12cyl - that has more HD internals but the cases are the same. possibly the axles are the same as well, and wheel bearings. Ive heard the 12cyl eats front struts - but I only got 60K from the stock struts on the 4.2L - with age eating up the air bags - now the arnotts are lifetime warranty.

im in Florida, so the air temp reaches 35C in most every month of the year. out of curiousity, how does shifting and clutch pressure take place with no fluid ?

@@tonyd3266 because the gearbox needs to know without and then with fluid. Its a manufacture procedure (from ZF). You have to select all the gears with gearbox empty until reach that 35° and fill it because the gearbox fluid is too sensitive to the temperature and expands quite fast within a temp range, so you need to fill that specific quantity at specific temp.
