"All my life He has been faithful. . ." That could be my testimony, so I'm thankful for the faithfulness of God through both the good times and the not so good times.

I've never been to the Holy Land, so this virtual tour was very informative and the history of the city of Jerusalem fascinating. Will we be able to see any of these places during the Millennium?

Interesting tie-in to actual places mentioned in the Bible during the time of Jesus. It makes me want to do some research myself.

Good comments. I like the illustration about the recipe and ingredients. God’s word is very specific. We are to follow it His way and not our own. If we alter it in a way to suit our own desires, it’s not the same.

I was very touched by all of the pictures you presented today. Art can be inspiring, informational, historical, and sacred--so different things to the person observing it. I was struck by some of the little things like the patches on the clothing of the miners that the artist included. Art is truly in the eye and the heart of the observer, and is interpreted in as many different ways. I'm reminded of Mitchell Tolle's touching testimony about the role art has played in his life. Thank you so much.

Lots of "food for thought" motivated by discussion today. Thank you for providing the opportunity for those of us who can't be there in person to still attend Sunday school, which I believe is a vital part of the ministry of the church. It's sad to see so many churches dispense with Sunday school.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories. I liked hearing the story of my grandmother and her pursuit of receiving forgiveness. As you mentioned, God pursued us while we were yet sinners. Think of all the people who are wrongfully angry towards God right now for whatever reason. Even though they are wrong, Jesus never stops pursing for their reconciliation with Him. It’s a good reminder to be determined to show love and pursue reconciliation and continuous forgiveness even if the person is wrong, not sorry, and “undeserving” in our eyes.

This was such an interesting lesson linking the passages of Scripture relating to Nicodemus in John's gospel. The passage of his going to Jesus in the night is the most familiar, but I am glad to have the other passages to help us realize Nicodemus continued to follow Jesus and apparently come to believe that Jesus was who He professed to be. I also like the point that some people process things over time, and it gives us hope that all will come to truly put their faith in Jesus. Thank you, Dr. Holley, and prayers for Dr. Wriston's full recovery.

    • @weltonwriston4564
      @weltonwriston4564 4 місяці тому

Yes, the process for some is longer. Nicodemus was a critical thinker and he had much in his past to process. Mainly, his faith as he was taught and the profession he held as a religious leader. Thanks for watching.

That old song "I'm on the Battlefield for My Lord" kept running through my mind as you spoke about taking a stand for what you believe. I don't like confrontational situations, but as you said, I believe God the Holy Spirit, will give us the words we need to say at the appropriate time.

This is an excellent lesson using Scripture, the words of John, and of Jesus Himself contrasting water baptism and Holy Spirit Baptism. This would also be an enlightening message for those who believe the Holy Spirit baptism was a one-time experience for the people in the Upper Room. Once you have been in a service where the Holy Spirit moves through the words of a song, a prayer, or the message of the preacher, it would be difficult to attend a church where you never have that experience. We attended a service in a church where our daughter attended kindergarten (before public schools included kindergarten), it was very quiet and formal. After we left, my husband said, "I wonder what would have happened if I said 'Amen' during the pastor's message?!" One of my teacher friends told me excitedly that "we even raise our hands sometimes during congregational singing now!" Maybe if they could hear this lesson, they would be more receptive to receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit!

My maternal grandmother's name was Penina Elizabeth. She was called Lizzie, but I think the Penina was a variation of Peninah (from 1 Samuel). I suppose some parents just liked certain names without considering the character and/or personality of the biblical namesake, otherwise why name your child Penina after a woman who had children but persecuted Hannah who was barren. Likewise Delilah, Jezebel, and others you mentioned would not be my choice for a daughter's name. This was an interesting lesson on how the roles of women changed down through history. While I'm not a feminist per se, I do think somewhere along the way women were (and still are in some countries) treated as inferior to men, denied an education, the right to vote, own property, etc. I see pictures of families just a generation or two ago where women bore a dozen or more children, labored alongside men in the fields, did laundry and cooked meals without benefit of electricity, etc. I suppose the pendulum is swinging the other way now. Both are extremes and not the way God intended marriage and family to be, in my humble opinion. It hinges on treating all people as equals, made in the image of God, and treating them with love, respect, and kindness. That's my sermon for today! :)

I loved it. Personal testimony is powerful. That is great advice, for our words can only do so much! At some point people will have to see and experience this for themselves. That is what you challenged them to do. “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him!(Psalm 34:8).” We can stand on His Living Word and follow what it says, for He will always stand by His Word and keep His promises. Praise God for His faithfulness!

I'm remembering the song we sometimes sing entitled "Goodness of God." The first lline: "I love you Lord, for Your mercies never fail me . . ." and goes on to end with "With every breath that I am able, I will sing of the Goodness of God." Even the children's blessing "God is Good, God is Great . . ." is a reminder of the Goodness of God. Thank you for the additional Scriptures that also remind us that God is more willing to show His Goodness than His wrath; yet His wrath is also very real.

Each time I read about the days leading up to the Crucifixion, I am reminded of the price Jesus paid so that we might have forgiveness of sins. I don't mean this as comparable in any way, but I am reminded that when I'm faced with a task or a situation that I KNOW is coming, I dread it and I try to think of ways that it might be avoided. I've prayed prayers similar to the one Jesus prayed in Gethsemane. If it's possible, Lord, let there be another way. Jesus knew He would be betrayed and die an agonizing death, He was willing to lay down His life even for those who put Him to death. And, we know what happened on the third day . . . Thank God for the Resurrection, our Hope for Eternal Life in Heaven! Have a blessed week of reflection leading up to Resurrection Sunday.

This lesson was a very enlightening and informative teaching on the Holy Spirit even for those of us who grew up in the Church of God. I was an adult before I realized the importance of the work of the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives as opposed to the emphasis on speaking in tongues as the ultimate "evidence" of being filled with His Spirit.

  • @bettybenefield3880

When I was a child growing up in the Church of God, I was present in weekly "prayer meetings" where people were free to testify. The testimony I heard repeatedly was "Praise God, I'm saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost." I think this may have impressed upon my young mind the belief that sanctification was a one-time experience. Thankfully, as I matured, I was also exposed to anointed and informative teaching by pastors and teachers, I began to realize there was more to the doctrine of sanctification. As I matured in my personal walk with the Lord, I began to study the Bible seeking to understand some of the doctrines I had heard about and ask the Holy Spirit to give me understanding. Thank you for this excellent teaching on sanctification.

Charles and I are so grateful for you, members of the Discovery Class, and others who regularly pray for us. We have heard the story of Naaman's healing many times, but I was reminded again of the role of the little servant girl in bringing about his decision to seek out the prophet Elisha. What an impact for the Kingdom we might have if we don't hesitate to respond to the Holy Spirit's prompting to speak up and speak out. This portion has many valuable lessons to teach us. Thank you.

Very interesting information for those of us born into the Church as well as those with no prior knowledge of the Church of God. I heard about some of the early history from my parents who experienced it firsthand when my paternal grandfather allowed a "holiness" preacher to set up a brush arbor on his property and preach a revival. Eventually, he donated property for a church to be organized that affiliated with the Church of God. The growth of the Church worldwide has been remarkable even in my lifetime.

“The hard work of sowing seed in what looks like perfectly empty earth has, as every farmer knows, a time of harvest. All suffering, all pain, all emptiness, all disappointment is seed: sow it in God and he will, finally, bring a crop of joy from it.” -Eugene Peterson This is wonderful. Thanks!
