Have you tried the 24-120 f/4
@@solidstream13 I have not but that lens on the Z8 would be amazing since if you crop to super 35, you can make it a 36-180mm
Man how do you get that film look? Is it a ZF profile?
@@solidstream13 thanks! I used the Portra 400 Preset by Very Good Presets
I just got a Nikon Zf, with the 40mm f2. I’m shocked at how good the 40 is for the price. Sharp, quiet and very nice color rendition. Would you say the 28 is as good, overall, IQ wise?
The 28mm f/2.8 is just as good as this 40mm f/2 and a great companion lens as well.
Nikon could seriously boost the relevancy of the Z8 just by fixing that Frankenstein piece of garbage they call a battery grip. Imagine a grip that actually matches the shape of the camera and uses the EN-EL18 batteries from the Z9. Your business case for the Z8 as a second camera for a Z9 goes way up. Longer shooting times. Only one type of battery and charger to carry. Z8 shooters can still use EN-EL15 batteries if they want a Z8/Z6iii ecosystem, so there is no downside to the decision. You don't have to rework the entire camera for maybe another year or so. Shoot, license Neewer or Meike to do it if you don't want to do it yourself. Fix the $300 and make your $4000 item more desirable and valuable. Until then, the Z8 is nice, but not great.
I love it but I dont have enough funds to get it
It def is pricey but I also recommend looking at the 28-75 Tamron. Def a great lens for the price.
Purchased is lens with my Z6II and have no desire to buy anything else! Its does everything for me! The best Nikkor lens I’ve owned in the 50 years of using Nikon!
I just purchased the Nikon z6iii and I am looking at the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, but I have been reading that the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S is the only way to go. I am planning on purchasing the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD, and a wide angle lens, like the NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR. Is the Nikkor 24-70 worth the extra $1,000.00? Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
I owned the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 S and it absolutely amazing for what it does. If you’re a working pro, def worth the money. However, now that this Tamron is available and after using it for a few months for paid work, if I was in the market for a fast general purpose zoom, I’d go with the Tamron, save the $1000 or use it to buy another lens for my kit. Image quality wise, it’s close to the 24-70 2.8 S and same with AF performance.

tq for the inspirations talk!
@@freaker126 thank you for watching! I’m glad you felt inspired!
This is more of a comment for the know-it-all commenters. This lens so short and light that it doesn’t need a heavy metal mount. I’ve happily used Nikon’s similarly mounted DX AF-P lenses on a D7500 without issue for several years. Nikon says it’s dust and drip resistant. It doesn’t say it’s waterproof.
Love it dude, more like this!
@@NetoVelasco thank you brother!

Such great times. Love the video brother
Love you too brother. To many more travel gigs!
This was so much fun to put together. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years already. Time flies!
Great lens, but waiting for a professional 1.2 50mm from a third party, hopefully the Sigma or Pro Viltrox. I like smaller lenses, when it comes to a 50mm lens, like Canon or Sony.
a payoff for Tommy looks good :)
Oh yeah, she got fed well haha
Audio quality on this vid is bonkers
@@jvkrause the quality of this comment is bonkers
Hello David, What is the baseplate on your Zf, please?
Currently I’m using the Nikon x SmallRig base plate. Neewer also makes one that adds a red strip to front of grip, has a thumb rest and is $20 cheaper.
@@dlovisuals thank you!
Just go with the non special edition and save a hundred bucks the non's special edition is usually on sale for 70 bucks off.
Very true. Although it’s up to the user since some people love aesthetics
Actually, the lens is advertised as dust and drip resistant, and has a diagram of where the gaskets are
Hi David, may I know where you got the soft shutter release button for the Zf? Really liking the gold/orange colour, thanks!
Had to double tap 😡
@@maech.m007di why so angry
But It say" dust and drip resistant" so probably a bit weather resistant still?
24-120 and 50 1.8 is an amazing travel kit.
I’ve heard nothing but great things about the 24-120!
Hi I'm from cambodia
Who else loves traveling for work?
I like to walk in the mountains, what about you?
The set up you are using here..... can you give the rough dimensions? I am trying to find the right size vs. quality camera len combo. Thank you
Thank you for keeping the video concise 🙏
Of course! I love keeping things short and to the point! Thank you for watching
Nice 👍
Thanks!
Quiubo parcero! In my zf for now I use a viltrox 16 1.8 (fantastic), a 20 mm afd adapted (it has that something that fascinates me) , a viltrox 24 1.8 (does its job) , nikon 40 (when not working it stays attached to the zf), nikon 50 1.8 Z (the best lens). Soon I am thinking of buying a 28-75 (better the G2 than the nikkor?) and I would like the laowa 20 shift! Thanks for. the video!
Quiubo! Yes I would get the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 G over the Nikon version because it’s much newer and cheaper. The Nikon version is a rebadged Tamron G1. However, the Nikon 28-75 is often on sale for around $800.
@@dlovisuals thanks for the answer!! definitely one of those choices I will make by “feel” inside the store.
The rolling shutter is so bad on Zf though.
It´s better than the Sony A7IV.
In actual use on paid professional shoots, it’s never been an issue. I often shoot either handheld video or on a gimbal.
huh? Get a Z8 then.
My ZF kit is a voigtlander 50 F/1.0, nikon 28mm 2.8 and nikon 40mm F/2. I shoot a Z8 also if I need it.
Def looking at adding a Z8 at some point to round out the kit!
The Z8 is awesome if you plan to use it fully. Like I would have never purchased it if a ZF and Z6iii were already available when it came out. I was trying to get a successor to my Z6 and the z6ii wasn't it, so more of an impulse buy that I find myself trying to justify the use of it by kitting it out for video work, although I am a still shooter. I use my ZF 80% of the time. I am learning davinci resolve now though.
I switched from Sony specifically to shoot with sharp, lightweight, and pro build quality primes. The 20/1.8, 35/1.8, 50/1.8, and 70-180/2.8 on 2 Z9’s make up my working kit. The Zf and 28/2.8 and 40/2 are my personal daily carry.
That’s a great kit! I have two ZF camera and love using them for either paid work or for fun stuff like street photography. I might swap one ZF out for a Z6 III or save up and re buy a Z8.
@ silent shooting with no banding issues on the Z8/Z9 is worth the upgrade alone. You won’t get that on the Z6iii since it has a slower sensor readout speed. Also, being able to shoot 20mp in DX crop mode adds even more usability to the 85 and 70-180. For anyone concerned, yes 20mp is plenty for paid work. My career started at just 12mp and I spent 10 years shooting a 16mp camera (Canon 1Dx) for commercial marketing campaigns, news, and magazines. High MP has its use, but it’s not a requirement.
@@drbubble33 yeah the Z8 might be the move for me. I had one early this year and sold it to fund a project and switch to Sony for a bit. Eventually sold off Sony and went back to Nikon. Picked ZF since it’s so versatile and doesn’t break bank.
I bought the zf just to use the voigtlander 40mm 1.2. Even though I’ve picked up the 26mm 2.8 and the 35mm 1.8 I hardly use them. I’m a Olympus/OM Systems user for my main system. Few times I’ve done a concert the Olympus 75mm (equivalent 150mm) 1.8 is spectacular for low light situations.
Long tele photo primes are so much fun to use for concerts. I was lucky enough to have tried the 135mm f/1.8 Plena for music work and it was 🤌🏻🤌🏻
I find all those lenses too big and not matching the beauty of the camera. With those lenses I'd go for a Nikon with better grip. I'll only use voigtländer 40mm1.2 and Thypoch 28mm1.4 with the ZF.
Came to same conclusion...also OM/Zf user 😊
I’ve heard so many great things about the Voigtländer. Gotta check it out
What’s your go to lens kit?
I just got the Zf with the 40. I also picked up the 50mm 1.8S and the 85mm 1.8S. I can’t decide on my next lens and whether it’s going to be the 35 1.8 S or the 28 2.8 SE. It’s likely going to be the little 28 since I already have Fuji X100 V which gives me that 35mm focal length. Also, I love the little 28 mm and your review of it is very good.
That’s a great kit to start with! I’d say go for the 28mm f/2.8 SE since that will cover your wide angle needs, it’s just as good as the 40mm f/2 and is a great little lens for travel!
Okay so I have a question I’m a wedding photographer/videographer do you think I could get away with running a ZF for wedding photo and video or should I just go with the z6iii
Assuming you don’t already have another Nikon Z camera, The ZF is a very capable camera for photo and video work. Very good autofocus like Z6III and similar image quality. It also has two card slots for redundancy. Video wise, it can shoot 10 bit 4K 24fps (no crop) and 4k 60fps (with a crop). The Nikon Z6III doesn’t have a crop for 4k 60fps, can take a battery grip for extended use. If could pick one, I’d probably go for the Z6III as my primary and the ZF as a backup.
If you think that's overcast you'll never be a weather man! 😂
😂😂😂 I think I’ll stick to photography
@dlovisuals good video though my friend.
@ thank you!
It’s a great lens, got mine in 2020 as it was the only option on the market then that was native z compatible. It’s great there are other options now and I think I would have picked up the Nikon 28-75 f2.8 instead given I am a still using it for a hobby and rarely take payment!
I really like the Nikon Z 28-75. I don't think I will ever get the 24-70 S/
Yeah this lens is crazy lightweight and sharp. 24-70 2.8 S is still sharper but not by much
This lens lives on my camera is my travel go to since I got it few months back. I love primes but it was tiresome changing lenses while traveling/hiking. It's not as sharp as the S line lenses, but it rendering is very moody and nice. It's also faster at focussing than the S line primes and more silent than them.
Yeah! It’s def my go to for event photos and video. I usually pair it with the 85mm 1.8 S or the Nikkor 70-180mm 2.8.
Good Video !! I just picked this up as well for $999 no tax !!! Very happy with the results so far . I even did test with the Tamron against my Nikon 50 1.8 and 28mm prime lenses and found it very close , so hard to tell the difference .. Think Im going to Love this Lens.
Thank you! Yeah this lens pretty sharp and I can’t get over how light it is!
Thanks for the review. FWIW, and perhaps it's not a fair comparison, but I had bought the Tamron 35-150 for Nikon Z but I disliked it so much (I found it remarkably soft) that I sold it.
I haven’t tried the 35-150mm but I have a few friends that have it and swear by it.
@3:14 Nice Santa Teresa Shot
Thank you! Got a few bottles as a parting gift for covering one of their events.
According to Christ Frost even tho the Nikon version is very similar they have different IQ quirks so they might be different and maybe Nikon is copying Tamron
@@1RJ2 yeah that might be the case. Though I wonder if Tamron is sharing tech with Nikon since on the Tamron website it states that the g2 was “developed, manufactured and sold under a license agreement with Nikon.” So I’m gonna assume they’re doing something similar to how LUMIX and Leica share tech for L-Mount. Either way, we as consumers win.
When was this released?
The Nikon Z version was released back in April 2024.
Not a bargain BUT still a great camera. You get this if you want a Leica, not to find a steal
For a Leica, it’s a bargain, especially now that Q3 and Q3 43 have released. You can find Q2 for as low as $2500-$2800 on used market.
Really like that Nikon is working with Tamron to bring their zooms over to Z Mount!
