Taff Vale 85 Steaming Trough the Worth Valley
Hello all
Built in Glasgow for the Taff Vale Railway, 85 hauled coal trains into Cardiff from the near by valleys. The locomotive was the first Class 02 built by Neilson Reid in 1899. 85 performed its intended freight duties for 28 years until the line was taken over by the Great Western Railway in 1922. With the GWR preferring standardization, the Class 02s quickly became surplus to requirement and none of the class received a rebuild. 85 now numbered 426 was withdrawn from service in 1927 and offered up for sale later being bought in 1929. 85 and two other Class 02 were purchased by the Lambton, Hetton & Joicey Colliery Co. in County Durham. In 1947 now under the NCB, 85 received the new number on No.52. The loco stayed at Philadelphia depot until 1968 when it was displaced by diesel power and put up for sale again. Initially the engine was bought for preservation by the Midland & Great Northern Railway Preservation Society and sold to the KWVR in 1970. 85 finally steamed again in 2000 after an extensive overhaul in the 1990's witch included the removal of some modifications done by the Lambton, Hetton & Joicey Colliery Co. 85 served until 2009 when its boiler ticket expired and reentered service in 216. The Loco continues to be a fan favorite on the line to this day.

Ahh😊
Oh! To be alive during that time.
Overheard from a guard - so take with a pinch of salt: An A4 might be visiting in March, for a few weeks. (This does sound plausible because of S&D200, and the SNGLT did say the loco will be a regular visitor, after the last overhaul.)
Hopefully he's right it would be nice to see a A4 back in the NYMR
Where is this
Between Haworth and Oxenhope. A footpath runs down to the little bridge and joins the main path on the other side.
@ oh on the keighley and worth valley
Great Video
Thanks!
Stanley

My old days are in new edge, sounds of exhausting smoke and steam as well as sounds of operating piston are very pleasant to listen.Nice videos, extraordinary videos.Waiting for video of locomotives whistling many times while running.Thanks.
Thanks. The KWVR seem to be the most wistle happy railway 😀 hopefully they won't disappoint this weekend

I would have loved to work on a British branchline back in the 1930s
I can second that 😀
Great video
Thanks 😀
Love those class 14s😊
Agreed 👍
Which railway is this on
Its Kirkby Stephen East operated by the Stainmore railway company. Only a 1/4 mile of track out of the station at the moment but they have plans to extend that and one day link up with the Eden valley railway further down the old railway line.
@@NorthEasternSteam1 thanks
Lovely sea views!
Love the drone footage

Thank you for the date and location .

Great video 😊
Thanks! 😊
it is diesel. but its front end looks alot like steam tank engine bunker. what is a name of this switcher manufacturer?
English Electric, according to the video description.
That's right it a prototype from English electric that's been on permanent loan to the KWVR.
this loco arrived on the property in march 1966 . David kay had a lot to do with it..AFIK.... it was painted black with a pale grey roof and a red waistline strip tapering to a chevron at the radiator fins end it is easily one of my personal favourite locos in preservation period .. many thank for this video brought back some wonderful memories (rastus)

Вот почему потепление--- запустили ДИМОВОЗ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing love the sound of a hall
Very good video from the Aln Valley Railway.👍
Cheers 😀
Nice video from the Steam Gala :)
Amusing to see the locomotives set to opposing directions at 3:06.
There was about eight other people stood in the same spot as me at the time and it was just stunned silence when that happened.
Some good shots there. You had reasonably good weather for it. Not much sun, but good light! Thanks for uploading.
Cheers Allen
The black5 or Jublue class do have nice and lovely Hooter whistles
