From Night Gallery. Every parent understands that annoying cry in the middle of the night from a thirsty child. This...with a wry twist.

1989 DCI World Championships from Kansas City, MO. Complete Finals performances of Corps 6-12. The Santa Clara Vanguard had part 2 removed from UA-cam for copyright infringement. No details were given; it’s the same damned show as 1988 (only dirtier), so I’ve no further insight. They also removed my “1985 SCV From the Stands” finals video. Special thanks to the 1985 Garfield Cadets and 1985 Blu...

Heather ORourke memorial tribute?
In memorian??
The Oscars meant so much more back then. Just too much content everywhere now.
Oh man, if they thought people had low attention spans back then… lol
The Oscar winners of tomorrow 😂😂😂
Oh my… that fiasco! This killed the producer’s career 😊😂😂😂😂.
The opening ruined careers... but i can't see why. A tacky opening for a tacky hollywood. I thought it was campy and fun.
That hit at :38 sounds unbelievable
so sad these days of coverage are long gone.
So that day I went into to talk to the DCI judges dressed as a CHEF! Compared our activity to a smorgasbord that there are foods on the menu that will fit the liking of everyone just like the different drum corps.! I finished by being forwarding the they were about to see on hellava performance by Garfield that night! And that is was! I was sitting up in a box next to a few corps directors. They were going CRAZY during and after the Cadets performance, Don Warren the then director of the Cavaliers ran out of his box and said to me "UNBELIEVABLE!" NOW THATS A DRUM CORPS!!!
3:35 Man how I miss the sound of G bugles. SUPER loud.
jodie did win and the accused was so powerful
The music doesn't even flow, it blasts along, taking you with it in its wake!! Lol...simply amazing...
13:30 "Watch Out! OH MY GOD" - That must have been crazy to see in 1984
the year Sigourney Weaver should have become 'Academy Award winner Sigourney Weaver'.
Thank you very much for recording and uploading this! Very interesting to watch how the show would run back in the day!
So sick of the political correctness.
Rain Man has a social message?
Yes. Ray is a very good driver. Peoples Court is on at 5 and autistic people need to be respected because they can count cards. lol
Don't ignore family.
Lily Tomlin's part was brilliant.
Not that long ago 1989, but already I can say they don't make them this good anymore, genuine movie stars with bags of talent. Jodie Foster in the late 1980s was pure heat to the eyes.
Garfield was in a class by itself.
2:04:25--Ernie and Bert all grown up. LOL!!
True fact, they’re still real today.
I thought that rape movie was a Lifetime or Made for TV movie.

I've loved Dustin Hoffman from the first time I saw him in "The Graduate". One of the greatest actors of his generation but with something extra missing in most: a boyish vulnerability that's so appealing. Seeing him on the stage accepting his second best actor Oscar I was moved by his boyish half smiles, kind of shy looks, and heartfelt speech- until I realized that he never once mentioned his co-star, Tom Cruise. Not once. Did research and found out that Tom had been voted in January of 1989 - 2 months before the Oscars - the #1 top box office star of 1988 (same as in 1986) and that Dustin - who in real life is not boyishly shy or all that vulnerable - was "upset" that his co-star was a bigger star than him.
For those wondering how many they predicted, here are the winners: Best film - Rain Man Best director - Barry Levinson Best actor - Dustin Hoffman Best actress - Jodie Foster
❤
Man I forgot how bad the PBS sound mix was. It's too bad these aren't remastered with the professional audio. Deadass ... this sounds like garbage
They sure don’t make drum corps like they used to…
I marched Garfield that year and was in the very end of the Z-pull. the OPPOS ITE end. So when I heard the crowd commotion, I thought we were just killing it. I Had no idea what happened on the other end until I saw some members with bent horns. What some people don’t realize with the z-pull is that some people (myself included) were backing up blind with no point of reference. Backing away from the 50 yard line at an awkward angle with no line of sight of the form was dangerous every time!

RIP Cadets.
5 DISTINCT STYLES...Imagine that. Everyone was unique...27, Troopers, Freelancers, and on and on.
I can't believe THIS is the number people have been complaining about for over 30 years. Prior to Rob Lowe ruining it with his flat voice and barely-there charisma, the opening piece was...surprisingly spectacular! Funny, imaginative, weird, experimental. Utterly unlike anything attempted on this annual telecast before or since. It does make me ask "wtf?" but with a smile. They took a big swing with this, and I applaud them for it. It's nuts!
The woman who played snow white - this one gig ruined her entire career.
1:25:55 The question to that is simple. Cherami Leigh did.
Thanks for sharing this tape as well as the photo. I was in the Side 1 end zone with Sky Ryders watching this as it happened. We had no. idea that the one kid suffered a broken leg, We were just stunned that it happened at all. I remember remarking to some of my friends after we got off the field about how slick that dead, brown grass was that afternoon during prelims, and I remember nearly falling during our drum solo. I think like 14 Cadets went down, but they were up and in place in record time, and the corps marched off the field. I seem to remember the guy with the broken leg getting off the field before collapsing at the track gate. I do not know whether this is true or not; it was a long time ago.
This is one of the greatest things I've ever seen/heard, not exclusive to drum corps.
People forget that Martin Landau was the favorite that year and Kevin Kline was a surprise. Nearly unthinkable in hindsight.
"Oh sure back in the day, but now nobody could give two fucks for Bela...."
I remember being at a merry Oscar watching party with great food, guests and ambiance. But when the opening number started, everything stopped and people just stood there watching the screen - like it was an automobile accident. I'll never forget Rob Lowe and Snow White, it was like something from a dream - only it was real!!
Practice makes prefect. The best year in DCI history. It will never be the same
Meryl Streep was robbed
As someone who marched (Here in the UK) in the 1970's (Instructed/adjudicated and then directed in the 8o's), I believe this was the epitome of Drum and Bugle Corps. IMO, things started to get sillier and went downhill , garbage on the field and 'The Pit' got so large that there were more musicians in it than on ythe field playing, till everything became so technical that you just left with a pastiche of what DCI once was. Hell, they even stopped playing G Bugles. And then finally, the Rainbow Brigade took over DCI with Soyboys, sequins and fairies. So sad. Give me Madison, Gerry Seawright, 27, George Zingali etc any day.
It’s amazing to see so many icons who passed not long after
Every group that year, all of them were winners, but Garfield did what couldn't be done. Look up Lassiter band h.s. either 1998 and/or 2002. This ga. Band won BOA both years, back-to-back. Do it
