Bank Robbery Hostage Interview: Gary Hakala (Norco '80)
5 young men. 32 destroyed police vehicles. 1 spectacular bank robbery. This “cinematic” true crime story transports readers to the scene of one of the most shocking bank heists in U.S. history―a crime that’s almost too wild to be real (The New York Times Book Review).
Norco ’80 tells the story of how five heavily armed young men―led by an apocalyptic born-again Christian―attempted a bank robbery that turned into one of the most violent criminal events in U.S. history, forever changing the face of American law enforcement. Part action thriller and part courtroom drama, this Edgar Award finalist for Best Fact Crime transports the reader back to the Southern California of the 1970s, an era of predatory evangelical gurus, doomsday predictions, megachurches, and soaring crime rates, with the threat of nuclear obliteration looming over it all.
In this riveting true story, a group of landscapers transforms into a murderous gang of bank robbers armed to the teeth with military-grade weapons. Their desperate getaway turns the surrounding towns into war zones. And when it’s over, three are dead and close to twenty wounded; a police helicopter has been forced down from the sky, and thirty-two police vehicles have been completely demolished by thousands of rounds of ammo. The resulting trial shakes the community to the core, raising many issues that continue to plague society today: from the epidemic of post-traumatic stress disorder within law enforcement to religious extremism and the militarization of local police forces.

I enjoyed this video Kyle....I had never thought about that before.
Thank you, Jenny.🎉
Oh my Gosh, I understood everything you said, and even the way you said it was so familiar. I am glad you posted this video! I am not obsessed with language right now, yet it was fun. What captured my attention most is how you described your cousin who has Dawn Syndrome. It stuck with me, because I think that was the main point of what you said in this video. Like whatever you have, are only attachments to an underlying spirit. It could be anything, like a physical deformation, if you've read/saw "The Elephant Man" --this was a beautiful human being , human spirit stuck in a deformed body. The brain only exists as long as the body does, what remains is the presence of the spirit, your cousin could be the most spiritually advanced human spirit in the body, and just because the today's trendy games are nastier that he is, he is considered not-normal. Oh heck, this is so sad! The state of the world today appears to be so hopeless, particularly if you are too healthy spiritually? Mentally? Emotionally? to conform to its games. I am 62 and just learnt about a year ago that I am on the spectrum, I am undiagnosed, but it is not so hard to diagnose yourself with the internet these days. I never new what was wrong with me and why the therapy "methods" never worked on me. I grew up home alone because I didn't mingle AT ALL with other kids, but I've tried to mask and it never worked, and now at 62 and after many Ayahuasca ceremonies I really do not have any energy left to try to cover up. Are you in the US? I am looking for a community, but cannot seem to find it...
I LOVE GOD ; SORRY I GET YOU UPSET ; PLEASE FOR GIVE ME . I WANT TO DO YOUR WILL. AN WILL FOLLOW YOU ! PLEASE JESUS HELP ME TO FOLLOW .
@10:09 I use the word, "Din." Din: A loud, prolonged, and unpleasant noise."
When you say "we,"just remember that "we" are not all the same.
You are correct. Thank you for bringing this up. I was hoping for an opportunity to explain my use of the word, "we." "We" humans is my intended use. Humanity is us. "We" are the human condition. "We" are history. (You are uniquely and specifically yourself🎉)

I feel this is so accurate. My daughter is acutely aware of nuances I would never ordinarily pick up on.
How very wonderful to have a child who can see the world with new and fresh perspectives.🎉
hey Kyle interesting thoughts you shared, i like how you mentioned the photographer during the civil war, i am very passionate about photography especially my local musicians who i support. When i take photos i really study the person, the angle they stand at and the background they are in. Awesome video.
@GemmasJourneyGrace Thank you, Gemma! Taking photos during the 1860's must have been very difficult, indeed. Have you ever developed film in a darkroom? It is like a science experiment. I would love to see your pictures and observe your discerning eye behind the camera. (BTW, the words photography and cartography sound similar. I used the latter, but love talking about the former.)
@@AuditingWithAutism hey Kyle no iv never developed photos in a dark room before my late grandmother used to have someone do her pictures for her but she has passed away so I never asked about it.
@GemmasJourneyGrace I feel we are lucky to have camera phones these days. The harsh smells in the darkroom were enough to push some people away from using it. I really enjoy looking at your snaps of yourself in cute outfits and such. It kinda brightens my day. (Truth)
@@AuditingWithAutism aww thank you so much Kyle that means a lot to me , i love dressing up its a escape from reality and it is my happy place being back in the Elvis era and putting on the jewellery and shoes and scarves and hats makes me feel incredible. There will be more pictures this week , keep checking my community tab :)

The excellence of my language is the excellence of my world. The limits of my language are the limits of my world.
Nice one. In a, be the language (change) we want to see in the world, kind of a way. Thanks for watching.
there is noone who rly understands universe😅 why should I argue with some agresive unlogical and twisted rethoric about anything instead focusing only on observing and seeing it just as it is😅 ?
"The world is full of objects, but that's what they remain until intellectual interaction, then they become facts." (Wittgenstein's book: Tractatus) But: An idea (poetry) points to the unseen like a map pointing the way out of the woods to a lost hiker. An idea shows the hiker to see not where he is, per se, but to see the forest for the trees; to see the bigger picture.

After minute 24 i still dont know what mental acrobatics are necessary to logically arrive at deism. Pls help
If a proposition has no possible opposite, it is a "Law," or the fundamental framework for our concept of reality and therefore unchangeable. If a proposition has a possible opposite, it is showing us "forms," which are necessarily changeable, and therefore must be an expression of that which is unchangeable. 🎉
This is idealism, the what comes first question. Eggs or ideas? The mind or the rock? The materialistic perspective says the everything that exists in in motion, to exist is to be in motion. Our 'language games' reveal nothing of the universe, only in the idealist perspective. As species we have absolutely confronting differences of ideas. None of them are right, reality does fit description. The Tao that can be spoken is not the real Tao. And poetry has still meaning in a materialistic world.
A chair is made for sitting, a bed for laying, a computer program for the aim of the person who wrote it - so it would seem that which is created is made with intention. The universe has apparent order (physics), just as intended!?
@@AuditingWithAutism The apparent order you see is a mental state. No mental state contains reality. Our brains can only hold small stories and relationships from a evolutionary utilitarian perspective. Narratives can't hold truth, like a cup can't hold the ocean. Just on the examples you gave, Chair, Bed, computer, these are human inventions, of course they have utility. That conclusion of utility, does not transfer to the universe, since we had nothing to do with its creation. What can you say about the areas of the universe where we know to be inhospitable , burning or freezing for billions of years, who created them ? and who asses its utility? Again the real meaning of "The tao that can be spoken is not the real Tao" is that If you can talk about it, its not the ultimate truth of the universe. So no human argument can prove anything. (that includes this of witgenstein) No specific god can be instantiated into existence through brain twists.

@@AuditingWithAutismthis is the same argument I use in favour of the universe having a purpose. However there is a caveat to my theory and that is that anything which is created does not know what it's own purpose is because the purpose comes from the intention of the Creator so only the creator of a thing knows what that purpose actually is. This means that the Universe has a purpose and we have a purpose but because we did not create ourselves we cannot know what that purpose is
Dude, do not waste your time with Philosofy, Do you know that Wittgenstein lived at the same time that Einstein and Einstein was the most prolific and influential human being of the past century? Science occupes now the site that philosofers occupy when the discussion about reality and meaning in ancient times... In my opinion religion is previous step of philosofy and philosofy is previous step of science, be mature and a person of your time and do not waste time discussing poetry arguments.
The whole modern conception of the world is founded on the illusion that the so-called laws of nature are the explanations of natural phenomena. Thus people today stop at the laws of nature, treating them as something inviolable, just as God and Fate were treated in past ages. And in fact both were right and both wrong; though the view of the ancients is clearer insofar as they have an acknowledged terminus, while the modern system tries to make it look as if everything were explained. - Wittgenstein, Tractatus, 6.371-2
You; if you haven't yet, read the novel Wittegensteins Mistress
It's just not true. These things are not a linear progression. Rather they correspond to one another in structural ways. They are nested in a way that is analogous to how sciences relate to one another. Physics is not more correct than chemistry or biology. Rather, these things are descriptive of the world at different scales and functions. Theology and philosophy are not precursors of science. Nor is science some necessarily modern and exclusively truth preserving domain. All three have a spectrum of utility and veracity. Philosophy is most commony divided into domains that seek to distill questions, concepts values. Science is about the cross reference of data with hypothesis to produce explanation, prediction, repetition and invention. Theology is about organizing ones judgments and preferences into a totalizing view of the world. I think everyone has their personal worldview. As well as an applied ethics, political theory and so forth.
Thank you for a great comment. I was kinda waiting for this one. I agree with all you mention, but the principle of Law (as I mentioned in the video) gives us the proposition: The universe exists. Can I imagine it also not existing? If the answer is "No," then we are talking about the very framework for physics, which, as you say, gives us the other sciences. This framework is the universe itself. Physics are immutable truths that we use mathematics to describe. Making math so very reliable. Chemistry, for example, is defined as change itself. Physics, like photons and electrons, for example, do not change.🎉
@@beksinski wow you were right until you went to theology. I'm sorry but no, it is not merely organizing one's judgements into a totalizing view of the world. It involves postulating things which are almost always impossible to prove and are therefore irrational. Lets also not pretend all religious people have "good personal reasons" for thinking there is a God. These are overwhelmingly bad reasons masquerading as good ones. Namely that they grew up in a religious community and so became religious themselves, or failed to understand the dozens of ways that arguments for God's existence (frequently centuries old) are either logically contradictory, invalid, or have premises that can simply never be proven. The teleological, ontological, cosmological, moral, and historical arguments for God's existence have all been debunked millions of times. And we have instead observed a cult-like worship of unprovable ideas leading to much suffering in the middle east and in Europe historically. It is morally offensive to even suggest some place for theology amongst philosophy and science. That's like saying rape should be put on a pedestal with beauty and intelligence as desirable virtues. Religion is a dumb cult dominated by hicks in the global south, and fanatics in the East. There is nothing deeper to it, and there never will be
I just want a little camper out in the woods like it appears you're in. Great little talk. I need to re-listen.
