Love it Roland Sally's songs are magnificent! I didn't know he was Chris Isaak's bass player! Thanks too for singing my favorite Roy Orbison song "Only the Lonely!" ❤️
BASS PLAYER ,ROLEY SALLY:"KILLING THE BLUES" IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!HE WROTE THIS....
Thank you so much for this
Absolutely beautiful lyrics and melody....i can imagine Roseanne Cash and Vince Gill performing this classic also ... thank you so very much and congratulations ❤❤❤
Getting a Grammy or winning an Oscar proves nothing about how good you are.
Malcolm Holcombe's version of this is absolutely stunning.
That's my Dad. Ed Phillips. He passed in 2018. I wish I had more videos of him auctioneering. Thank you for posting!
Roly might have written the perfect song.
Beautiful sad heart-hurt.
"Well, I think that's all the songs that Roly knows."
What a beautiful song en what a voice - I love it so!
Legit.
My favorite cover of this song is the Chris Smither version.
ILOVE THEM ALL!!!
That voice thooooo❤ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Awesome
Buffalo Tom
Awesome voice.
Lyrics Leaves were falling, just like embers In colors red and gold they set us on fire Burning just like a moonbeam in our eyes Somebody said they saw me Swinging the world by the tail Bouncing over a white cloud Killing the blues Now I'm guilty of something I hope you never do because there is nothing Sadder than losing, yourself in love Somebody said they saw me Swinging the world by the tail Bouncing over a white cloud Killing the blues Now you ask me, just to leave you To go out on my own And get what I need to You want me to find what I've already had Somebody said they saw me Swinging the world by the tail Bouncing over a white cloud Killing the blues Somebody said they saw me Swinging the world by the tail Bouncing over a white cloud Killing the blues Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Salley Rowland Jon Killing the Blues lyrics © Graph Music
HEAVENLY SONG... THANKS ROLEY!!!! XOXOXOOX
love this
Great song I love it in fact I perform it all the time... I appreciate seeing Roly Salley perform it too....
That is beautiful music performed with amazing soul. Ian Moore and Bob Dylan.... Incredible
It was Good game by the Texans
Shawn Colvin does a cover of this song that is absolutely stunning. My fave version. Wonderful song.
I believe she could sing anything and it would take my breath away! Her album, "Cover Girl" still sounds as good today as it did when I first heard it decades ago. She's very underrated! Nanci Griffith is another singer who does mostly covers, but does them brilliantly. I love her duets with John Prine. I'll never get over losing dear John Prine, my favorite songwriter.
I love this story! I love this song!
Great song and great story!
I think it's time for Ian to release a new live album
Lulz
Love Roly Salley. Too bad Chris Isaak et al couldn't let him have the spotlight to himself during this performance which could have been spectacular without them "piping in."
I think the "piping in" you are hearing are the people in the audience near to the person recording the video. Chris Isaak was providing backup harmonizing vocals that would have sounded great if the audience wasn't singing over the top of it all. In addition, Isaak and Sally probably have played this together in rehearsals so I'm sure Roly approved of Chris's vocal addition.
I DISAGREE. THEY'RE BUDS AND IT WAS GRANDE.
Genio!!!
That is the way to hear a song. The writer just about always does it better. My opinion! Hell ain't we all got 8 or 7 of em?
perfecto
There is nothing sadder than losing yourself in the love! Best Line In a Song Ever!
Sadly, very true! I destroyed myself for "love". I met the love of my life in 1980 when I was 19. We had 8 happy years together, he was my soulmate and best friend. We were engaged to be married, but like young idiots, we thought we had plenty of time. We didn't. He died suddenly in 1989, and he took a piece of my heart with him. I've been married since then, but never felt that kind of love again. I won't get married again unless I have that kind of love and mutual respect I had with Bert. It wouldn't be fair to a partner to have anything less than that.
@@LazyIRanch I understand I met my wife in 81 while playing in a rock band we married in 88 I lost her 2years ago I won’t ever marry again either
@@LazyIRanch I love the Robert Plant and Allison Kraus Album I was a LED ZEPPELIN fan and modeled my music after Zeppelin I was to work in the rock genre and when my drummer died in 2012 I was consoled in Nashville by Jimmy Page it’s such a small world ! Nice to meet you
not my favorite.
Who on earth was NOT singing harmony ?!? The guy taking the video - or Chris Isaak ?!? Whoever it is/was - they should have just shut up - and DEFINITELY not give up their day job . . . Nothing like wrecking a brilliant song by such off-key wailing . . .
LOL That's the videographer. I don't see how this band never put a solid arrangement of the song together. At least for concerts. It's a damn masterpiece.
I totally agree Wanda Mundy.
BE SILENT
Huge fan of Ian. As I sit here and listen to many of Ian's live songs, it definitely is clear Ian has lost his voice. Such a shame..he once had the best vocals ever
I saw him at Fitzgerald's in Houston this year, best concert ever. I'll go next month again.
what are some more songs written by Roy Salley? This is one of the finest songs written -- there must be some more gems to come out this mind.
Just look him up online and he has an album of awesome songs streaming on his website so you can sample. Buy it!
"ROLY" SHORT FOR "ROWLAND SALLEY.
I hope Roly has heard it song by Andrew Frost its one of the best out of many on youtube.
+John Evans Malcolm Holcombe, check it out, it's the best by far
.wow.
One of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
If you love this song (I do), best thing to do is get the album More Music From Mud Acres. It is featured there, done beautifully.
WOW! So many talented musicians on one stage.... I'm surprised the place didn't go up in flames ! Truly awesome :-) Thank you for sharing this John.
Was this recorded at the Biltmore a few years ago? It seems familiar...such a great show that night. Love the camaraderie of these guys--can't be matched. True professionals--on-time shows, they don't "phone it in," and their love and respect for each other shows. Great group of guys.
It's a shame that the audience was trying to sing along, their off-key yowling made it sound as if Roly was out-of-tune. He wasn't. This was a bad recording of a fantastic song and performance.
great job! added to playing performances to the internet- have you played likewise in public places sometimes?? by the way. I some times record acoustic guitar and participate in multitrack jams in Bandhub, it could be cool to collaborate in band-hub!
I have a friend named Howard living in rural Thailand who does this song so much better than anyone else I've ever heard it's not even close. I mean, he is fantastic. Buried out here in the sticks, sadly almost no one has heard him
Maybe Howard might sing for us?? Would love that!!
There also, was Amazing...
was there too <3
Holy shit! Ian and The Mother Hips! Two of my favorites! First time I saw The Hips was at Hole in the Wall. Thanks for posting this!
haha
To the haters and critics here, shut your fucking mouths. Do you have a Grammy? Do you write stuff like this? No. You're just talentless assholes on UA-cam, that's all. Rowland is a beautiful person, musician, painter, writer and humble man. Shame on you. Your negativity exposes all of you as losers.
Should have been titled, "Killing Killing The Blues".
Lol lol! Yep, Chris Smither kills this song, as opposed to Roly murdering it!
