Balsam Thunder Lake May 2020
2 buddies and I went to a lake we had never heard of up in north central Minnesota and got into a bunch of fish. Smallmouth, largemouth. I wish I had the gopro on from the beginning but it was really windy and we didn't know if we'd catch anything. After a dozen fish or more we finally got the camera out. Starring BUTCH, IZZY and The SLAYER. May 29th, 2020 No fancy editing, just cuts and clips. 20 mph winds when we got there. You don't have to like the video. I really made this for myself and my fishing buddies. Honorable mentions, MDK baits. TightRope jigs. Ranger Boats.

Accidental muskie on Mille Lacs
Переглядів 1225 років тому
Was up at Mille Lacs Smallie fishing and hooked into a 44" male muskie with my light gear. 7' medium Zodias spinning rod, #30 Supreme XT spinning reel and 6lb Seaguar fluorocarbon. Aweful camera work. He had never used a gopro before but some of the commentary is very brotherly to say the least. And yes it was awful fish release but we made sure the fish lived to see another day.

Shimano Curado G Boca vs Stock Bearings
1st comment! Great encounter Ben!
My Curado k is not like that it has the keyed washer then a flat washer then a bearing and another flat washer then the spring washers and another flat washer then nut…
My Steez doesn't screech or anything, but the spool rattles on the retrieve. How do I fix it?
Great HOW NOT TO clean a reel
Sooooooooo,,,,,,,wheres the vid with cleaning and oiling?
Berapa ukuran bearing di side plate dan di knop tension pak Saya ingin menggantinya dengan bearing zirconia ceramic.kebetulan saya tidak mengetahui ukuran pastinya..
hey, I cleaned this inside ring with alcohol , washed it off and oiled it. Still my reel is screeching. Also I oiled all other bearings inside the reel. Dont know what to do.
Man I need to make some new videos. been a whilke. Anyway theres only a few things it be. is it a shimano? unless the spool is somehow off but that doesn'tnhappen much. you in the States, send it to me ill check it. just cover shipping.
@@AcSlayer10 really kind of you, No I am in Germany. Its a cheapo chinese baitcaster, but alltogether not the worst quality. I will open the handle side and clean all parts. Havent done that yet. Thanks buddy.
@@VisitaInteriora if you can't figure it send me an email and I'll reply back with some pics of areas to check out and clean. What kind of brakes does that thing have? acslayer10@gmail.com
So I was using my 201HG Curado and it stopped taking in line with pressure. I cant imagine it being anything else besides the drag washer. Drag full tight as I can go, the spool won't turn while cranking with my thumb on it. Can you verify or should I replace other parts as well. I've ordered oem drag to see.
Does the handle still turn? You running braid or fluoro?
@@AcSlayer10 Braid, and yes, the handle turns.
Any chance the braid is slipping over the spool, you have backing under the braid? It's more common than one would think.
@@AcSlayer10 I took my line off and I'd hate to admit it but that's what it seems like. The spool has holes, idk while I never tied the line through there. Thank you sir.
@@hiepta2076 don't tie through the holes. Run 4 to 10 layers of old mini or fluoro on bottom of spool then tie your braid to it with a uni to uni knot. You can put a small piece of electrical tape over that knot. That will help stop the line from catching on it if you ever happen to go down that far.
Doesn't the ratchet gear go flat side up looks like you put in shiny side up ? Thanks
90% of the time yes. Once in a while I put them in upside down only because that's the way it came out. Some times you can see the witness marks on the ratchet ⚙.
Bro; i just look your video but i didn't see anything. Plz show me how to set up original handle to the reel. I have a problem to fix that 😁😁
Yes sir! Clean all of it especially tge brake system much quiter when done properly. I even add a light oil to it.
Would love to see a tear down and put together not fast forward! I’m struggling with my CI4+ 150HG
I'm new using shimano baitcasting reels have always used Ambassador 4600, 5500 and 6500 reels. Question? Have a Shimano Bantam Curado CU-201 Left hand retrieve can it be change to right hand retrieve? I dont think so but what do I know? Anyone have an answer for me?
By speeding up the process we learn nothing about doing it ourselves.
The washer needs greese?
Don't see why shimano wouldn't use a good bearing hell the reels are $170 bucks or more any ways what's $15 more
Hey Slayer other than them bearing is there a up grade for them plastic gears?
Not that I am aware of. The worst ones are 13 Fishing. 8 years I've maybe replaced 2 sets in shimanos.
I absolutely love your video's 👌
Lovely video really enjoyed it please do more of them from what material is the level wind pin made of where from did you get the replacement parts thanks 👍
Those old Diawa and Shimano reels are some of the best made. Made in Japan, today you have to pay a small fortune for reels made in Japan.
hi ben, is possible tuning the handle knob too? replace the "handle knob bushing" with ball bearing? thank u
I had one of these back in the 90s - Loved it !!
*Have used these a few times now, and boy are they smooth.>>>**allabout.wiki/n0y7** Had to replace a couple of Shimano reels, and these go above and beyond. Used mostly in-shore salt water, but also use in the lakes in TN.*
Thank you so much for the video! Definitely helps!
Ive seen your videos let me know. So i could ship it
How much would you charge me to clean my diawa procaster pr33sh
Mine does that noise but doesn have that kind of breaking syste.
Did you find a solution? I have a Daiwa Tatula and its magnetic as well cant figure it out
Good
nice video. ive subbed.. check out my south african bass fishing channel and let me know what u think?
Great video sub 164 here. Hope you can do the same :)
FishingFrenzy ......just did. Thanks.
Ben Boettcher legend :)
thanks you sir. I just bought a brand new Lews Lite $239 reel and it started screaming on the cast about 5 min into using it. Funny thing is it was the reel i grabbed after exchainging my Curado Dc reel it had a tiny sound in the spool the local shop went to fix it and then gave it back to me with a broken drag knob . They made it right with store credit so no shame on them. The Curado Dc is a great reel it got a piece of sand in the gear somehow it happens. So some how im trying not to complain with a bit od complainy sounding rant. All in all I feel i am kind of getting youst to problems with my reels. I always have taken good care of them but I am trying to somehow take even better care of them these things are needy . Great tools but they must be properly taken care of no matter how much money you spend.
mine sqeaks when i reel how do i fix that
that could mean it just needs a good clean and lube or a internal bearing is going bad.
Any updates on this issue I am having the same exact problem and I have the same exact prop
Well i overheated it a couple months ago. Had to have powerhead pulled off and new gasket put in. Also vahnged out regulators and stator. What ever my guy did to it while doing all that has it running better than it has in 4 years.
Prop pitch is too large move to a 21p
ok. I have a daiwa tatula sv that I cleaned and now it's making a screeching noise on the cast. I've swapped every single part out one by one from one of my other tatula sv reels and it still does it. it's driving me INSANE! It makes absolutely no sense. I've swapped out the side plate with the brakes, both spool bearings, the spool, and it still does it! it sounds like it's coming from the handle sideplate area. the spool is not rubbing anywhere on the frame. I'm completely baffled. And I'm not new to cleaning and tuning reels either.
finally figured it out! the pinion gear had a tiny bit of grease inside of it and it was grabbing the spool shaft and causing a chatter.
I have one, but it is some dirty, do you have a diagrama of it? i dont want to lose any part
I do not have a schematic. Sorry.
My baitcaster skipps and clicks after a cast like its not hooking up to bump the cast button back up ,the Handel turns and clicks and eventually it hooks up .I hooked on to a 6 lb large mouth and that's when it happened did I brake a gear tooth setting the hook
The whole reel malfunctioned and birdnested as it happened please make a video about this
Sounds more like the spring on the return pawl came out or broke.
Music irritating, arm in the way plus too fast to help anyone. What were you thinking when you made this unhelpful video? Just show a before and after picture to get the same effect.
What's the part number for the bearing in the spool tension knob? I ordered 2 of the same, and they only fit the outside spool case. The tension knob bearing is a different part number.
Trash video ... Music ... Damn arm in the way. Thumbs down
do you know how to get the other bearing that sits in there with the handle side spool bearing? theres two bearings in there on that side but i can never get the second one out
HATINTHEKAT The bearing I think your referring to is part of the X-ship. It’s a carrier bearing for the pinion gear. Under the tension knob is the spool bearing followed by a spacer then the x-ship bearing. To get that bearing out you need to remove the handle side sideplate. The bearing comes out the same direction as the spool bearing.
Have you upgraded as Diawa Steez SV103SX. Just got, see my video. Looking for someone to upgrade it.
ReelingWithJim i have done several steez's. Find me on instagram and look through the pics. acslayer10
whats a good reel grease and oil ? I used that hot sauce and it gets red everywhere.
no hot sauce EVER! All around grease and oil get some Cal's Drag Grease and Boca Lightning Lube oil. Want to go a step further, get Shimano DG06 grease Japan and some Alchemy oil.
My did almost a 35 seconds with factory bearings!
Won't the new bearings just cause birds nests? Why not use the standard bearings as 'breaks'
Why not use the reel brakes as brakes, thats what they are for. I usually tell customers to turn their brakes up a notch or 2 until they get use to the new bearings. The number one reason for upgraded isn't distance and to throw as hard as you can anyways. Its effort. Half the effort for every cast your doing now. Thats huge when fishing all day long. Lets say you are overhand casting your favorite swimjig. It goes 50yards, half a football field. Add some BOCAs and now you can sidearm it, flick your wrist and the lure will go the same distance. Casting that easliy with out straining yourself isnt going to cause anymore backlashes. I have tested this myself a dozen times. Brand new reel, use it in a few tournaments, then I added BOCAs. Used the same lure, line and rod for another couple tournaments. Night and day difference.
I'll take your word for it, but it seems that you either a; use the standard bearings to keep it slowed down, or b; get new bearings and increase your breaks to slow it down.
don't take my word for it. Im nobody.
you have a great video i watched every min of it. thanks for sharing with the world. If you have a chance check my channel out.if you like hit subscribe.let me know you did and ill say WHAT UP! HOLLA AT YA BOY!!!!!
you should do casting tests with these n get them on video... like have a grass area or pond measured out exactly in feet or yards, then cast the same 1/2oz lure, same rod, same reel with the exact same brake n lure weight settings, before and after the bearing change... that would definitely make for some awesome videos and probably sell product!! you could also test cast stock reels against each other from different companys then b4 n after bearing change! but i just really cant imagine casting any farther with my stock curado200i even using fluro... using braid it almost casts to far making top water lures sink with so much line out, or spooling out!!! i understand smoother reeling action bearings i guess, but then again my curados smooth enough not to complain... i guess i would just need to feel the difference in hand myself to really "get it"..... im sure its night n day difference...
I dont make but a buck or 2 on these bearings. Its just a hobby that has gotten out of hand. Anyways I plan on making more videos. I have done my own on the water tests and had much success especially when it comes to less effort per cast. As soon as my arm heals from the elbow surgery I had I will do some testing and video it.
will this mess with my usually brake settings?
If your thumb control isnt as good as the pros, mines definitely not either, then I usually tell customers to turn the brakes up a notch or on Shimanos turn a extra set of brakes on (top hats). If you don't feel any backlashes after a few casts you can always turn them back off.
the orange bearing seal is also ceramic right?
I guess I dont understand the question. If your referring to the seal itself then no it is not ceramic. If your referring to the "oranges seal bearings" as a whole then I can tell they are hybrids. Stainless steal races and ceramic balls inside. Lighter, stronger, harder and faster than stock.
hey man did you remove the orange seals?
I do remove them on most of mine. That said I also keep my reels pretty clean. If you don't clean yours very often I would consider leaving them on.
hey Ben, what's the best oil to put in reel bearings?
on the spool bearings I normally use Boca Lightning Lube. avoid hot sauce. Rocket fuel is also good. Alchemy Oil is really good but very thin and will wear off quicker than some of the other ones.
