A Basset Hound is three dogs in one. 1.They have the face of a Beagle 2. They have the droopy ears of the Bloodhound 3. They have the body of a Dachshund.

In the late 70s my husband and I owned a bordering kennel. We also bred BassetHounds and showed them all over the East Coast I have long time friends from the sale of our puppies. We had four finished champions. No matter how difficult my day job was those Bassets would give me so much joy.

I thought i was crazy thinking my bassett was stinky compared to other dogs but now i feel better knowing its the breed

My basenji boy made very good friends with a basset hound. They love playing and surprisingly, that basset hound has quite some energy. Such a lovely and friendly dog.

Yes my sis has one and she is a wuss! She also howls a lot and is clingy... I am biased though because my sweet rat terrier/chihuahua is the opposite as a active, only barks when needed and is a brave pup! He's perfect for me!

It's fascinating you Americans can easily pick up a basset at the pound, here in the UK I rarely even see them and they cost a fortune to obtain as pups. Worth it though, I want at least two for my family. They're beautiful, look at Rosie there, she's so majestic and tranquil. I love them, I think they're gonna be perfect around childeren and the elderly. All the best 🙏

My basset hound Archie is VERY VERY stuburn, untrainable, has a terrible odour, wont listen to me at all, sheds a lot and drools a lot. When he is mad, upset or disappointed he messes around the house, attacks the bins, steals rubish, and even destroys my sons toys. Sometimes, I think Archie thinks he is a human being. He gets hurt and upset. I even think that he is jealous of my son when we take him to some places and leave Archie on the sofa. But even with all of that in mind, I would not think of my life without this fat a@$ bas#$%d. Archie is just one of a kind.

Owning bassets taught me to hang and fold my clothes inside out, to combat the airborne funkiness. 😉

Incredibly difficult to potty train.

Even when house trained they will sneak a turd Sometimes in hard to find places. So if she tells you she wants to go, don't hesitate or she will go. Somewhere in you're house 🏠 😉 😏.

Had one, best dog ever. But the breaders are ignorant on the cost they are selling them for. This makes the buyers even more ignorant. Just pass on them and anything else these and other greedy bastards are selling. They'll lower the prices or stick em up there asses tell they do. 😮😊.

I have had several basset hounds throughout my life and while I loved them all dearly, I don't ever recommend owning one (or any pet for that matter). One of the biggest problems with basset hounds that a lot of people don't think about is bloat and GDV surgery. Basset hounds are prone to bloat and sometimes their stomach will twist and if you don't have immediate surgery, it can kill them. Not only is this unbelievable scary, but it can also cost a fortune to fix. When one of my bassets had this surgery, it cost me $7,000. And this dog still only lived to be 4.5 years old. Even though these dogs may seem lovely, think about the cost of maintaining these dogs and also the pain that you will be in when they inevitably die. Take into account that most bassets only live on average between 8-12 and that's if you're lucky. I know another guy who had basset hounds all his life and all of them died before reaching 10 years old.

The Rosie that we had loved my kids Period. The night after their funeral she stayed outside and barked all night long. She never did it before or after. She loved Dixie and Jim.

I got my Basset from Basset Hound Rescue... He had been kicked out of 3 homes before he was 7 months old....He had a fractured rib and blood in His urine..He would pass by his food bowl and go to the garbage can to eat...Emotionally he was absolutely distraught..and petrified...With Continual love, kindness, compassion, patience, nutritious food and medical attention, He has been transformed into a confident, sweet, beautiful ,healthy boy....Now, he is a therapy dog and his nickname 'Mr Smootch' says it all...

She is the exact same coloring as pattern as my Loli. Stubborn should be the #1 reason but love conquers all. She is such a sweetheart. I rescued her from an abusive situation and needs surgery to get a tissue mass removed. The vet says because of the type of mass it is it is not cancerous but still needs to be removed. Rosi looks like a real sweetie.
