FreeCAD 1.0 Tutorial for Beginners: From Sketch to 3D Model in Minutes | FreeCAD 3D Tutorial
In this FreeCAD tutorial, we take you through the process of modeling a 3D bracket step by step, covering essential tools and techniques to help you get started with CAD design. This tutorial is perfect for beginners or those with some experience who want to get comfortable with FreeCAD’s powerful features. We begin by focusing on creating the initial profile sketch of the bracket using the "Sketcher Workbench," a powerful tool in FreeCAD for designing 2D shapes. You’ll learn how to start a new sketch, select the right work plane, and draw the basic outline of the bracket using simple drawing tools like lines, arcs, and circles. Once the basic shapes are in place, we move on to adding constraints and dimensions, which are essential for defining the geometry of the sketch. Constraints control the relationships between different parts of your design, such as making two lines parallel or ensuring two circles are concentric. Dimensional constraints, on the other hand, allow you to set specific distances and angles for your shapes. By applying these constraints, you ensure that your design is accurate and adaptable, so any future changes to the model are easier to make. After fully constraining the sketch, we move on to creating the 3D model. Using the "Pad" command, we can extrude the 2D sketch into a 3D object, giving the bracket its desired thickness. The Pad command is a fundamental feature in FreeCAD, and we guide you through selecting the sketch and adjusting the pad’s parameters to achieve the correct dimensions for your design. Next, we dive into the "Pocket" command, which is used to remove material from the 3D model. This is essential for creating features like holes or cutouts in your bracket. In this tutorial, we show you how to apply the Pocket command to specific areas of the bracket, control the depth of the cut, and refine the model. As we progress, we also share tips for working efficiently in FreeCAD, such as using shortcuts, switching between different view modes to get a better look at your model, and staying organized by naming and grouping elements in the project. These practices will make it easier to navigate and modify your design as it becomes more complex. By the end of the video, you’ll have created a fully modeled 3D bracket, and you’ll have learned how to use the key FreeCAD commands to build functional 3D designs. These skills, including sketching, applying constraints, and using Pad and Pocket, are essential for modeling a wide range of objects. The techniques demonstrated in this tutorial will serve as the foundation for more advanced projects and help you build your confidence in using FreeCAD for various CAD applications, whether for personal projects, professional work, or further learning.
In conclusion, this tutorial on how to model a bracket in FreeCAD will take you step by step through the process of creating a 3D object from a simple 2D sketch. You’ll learn how to apply constraints and dimensions, use the Pad and Pocket commands to manipulate the model, and refine your design as you go. FreeCAD is an incredibly versatile tool, and with the knowledge gained from this tutorial, you'll be equipped to tackle a variety of 3D modeling projects with confidence and precision. Whether you're a hobbyist or a professional, this tutorial is a valuable resource for learning the fundamentals of 3D CAD modeling.

Welcome to my channel. I am so glad it was helpful.
Selecting the commands to start the part, body, and plane need to be a little clearer. Other than that the timing keyboarding commands was good.
Thanks so much for your comment. Really appreciate it.
Turn the background music down...way down. I can't continue watching.
Sure will do in the future videos. Thanks for the comment.
@@Learn_FreeCAD_1.0I just subscribed but yes, no music at all is the best imo. Hope you'll post more tutorials
Thanks so much!

Awesome. Thanks for the great video
Oh woaw! I did not know about the Draft ! Nice video
Glad I could help!
Please, turn off the music
Sorry it was bit loud on this video. I will fix it on future videos. Thanks for your comment.
Please don't remove the music. You are doing a great job. Thanks
Hey! Nice video, it was quite useful for me to see how FreeCAD works. As a constructive advice, I think that it could be even more helpful for some people to understand why they should do a certain action or what does that action do to the CAD. You did a great example of what I'm saying at 4:49 and, on the other hand, it was harder to understand why there was an helicoidal green shape that appeared around your curved line. Anyway, the global understanding of the video was great, thank you!
Thanks so much for your advice. In the future, I am planning to make longer videos with explanation for each action. I believe the helicoidal green shape represents how far the control vertices are away from the curve.
At Last an understandable tutorial. Thank You. I would love to see a tutorial about cfdof
Thanks so much for your comment. I will definitely do tutorial about cfdf soon.
Thank you
Thanks for watching
Thanks for this awesome video

i think most people learn tasks such as CAD by example. I certainly do. These tutorials are excellent. I particularly appreciate you telling us what you're doing as you show what you're doing, and hovering over the buttons long enough for the little popup help to describe the button. In this episode, I learned to turn on wireframe to select vertices or other hidden elements. I have spent a lot of time rotating the model and zooming to be able to see a hidden feature I needed to select. That simple trick that's probably obvious to most people will save me time and frustration. Now that I know, it's obvious to me too! Thank you for these FreeCAD videos. It's as essential as writing the open source code because if we don't know how to use FreeCAD, people won't use it and the development work will not receive the attention it deserves.
I am so glad to see your comment, really appreciate it.

7:14 fully constrained, but I received message "wire is not closed" :(
don't understand why amd how, but "toggle constructing geometry" with clicking on every edge helped me
I think some vertices may not connected. Select each vertices and drag, to see if any of them are not connected. If any, select the vertices and attach them with Coincident Constraint (C).
@@Learn_FreeCAD_1.0 the problem was in "toggle constructing geometry" was toggled
