The Caravan & Us
We started caravanning in August 2017 really by accident! A friend & neighbour who has been caravanning for some years asked for some help in cleaning the roof of his quite large Adria.
Before starting I made a couple of coffees & we sat in the dinette of his van. I got to thinking……….. & the rest is history! Three weeks later & after researching the size of caravans we were able to tow with our new car purchased only six months before, we purchased our first caravan.
We had never been caravanning so had no idea if we would enjoy it or not, I'm pleased to say we absolutely love every aspect of it….. Even the water & toilet duties!
The point of this channel is to share our adventures along with how we caravan, what we caravan in & tow with. Hopefully some job’s we’ve done to the caravan & anything we think might be interesting to viewers.…
Hope all that view the channel enjoy what we upload.
Thanks’

Was this to go from 7pin to 13pin electrics?
Hi, Unfortunately the cable dragged on the road when returning from Cambridge. It was a fix to the already installed 13pin electric cable.
@@thecaravanus4067 thanks I'm looking to change from 7pin (12s & 12n) to single 13pin
Is there anywhere else that you can get refills from besides homebase? I don't have one anywhere near me but I want the lightweight bottles!
Hi, If you have a Costco near you they do them now also FloGas. Hope these help. Andrew
I believe B&M garden centres do them
Great video, This is my first job once the weather gets better. Do you remember we’re you bought the pre wired cable from? Thanks
Hi, glad you liked the video. I got mine from a local caravan sales & accessory dealer. They are available on eBay, just put the following in search: Towing 13 Pin Plug + Pre Wired Cable - Caravan / Motorhome. Good luck with the repair.
Excellent video. To test my brake lights & Reverse lights on the caravan, I set up my phone on bricks etc behind the caravan and set the video. Hope this helps.
That’s a great tip 👍🏻
Cheers for this, I've done the same and now rewired as per your video but I've got no fridge and no ATC, fuses seem fine, any ideas at all did you have to reset your ATC ?
Hi, I didn’t have to reset anything. It’s worth double checking the colouring of the wires. I had to match some wires that were a different colour on the new cable.
Appreciate your reply, it was two fuses in the car that had blown, but all sorted now.
im glad i watched this review i have trouble with my cable on our 2015 swift, i didn't realize there was two type's of coloured wires so very grateful for this info.
Hi, glad the video was of help.
doing the same job myself was looking at gas locker but apparantly you cant have any electrics in the gas locker
Hi, that was a question I asked at the time of doing the repair. Many caravan manufacturers have 230v sockets on the front window sill/bulkhead with back boxes within the gas locker. I put the repair in an ip65 rated box although the rating is for water/weather protection it’s 12v & more than acceptable to be sited in the gas locker. Good luck with your repair.
Perfect.
We love the Karrt jockey wheel. Thanks for sharing (I've just subbed too) look forward to some more vlogs..
Hi, thanks for the sub. I’m going to start blogging again very soon. Love the Karrt jockey wheel & I plan to put one on our new caravan.
@@thecaravanus4067 Yes you should. I came across it as Kartt shared your vlog on facebook
@@CaravanVlogger Thanls Graham, love your channel.
this was helpful thank you. i thought iwas going mad when i couldnt get the top part of the jockey out of the hole. rather than whacking it with a hammer i filed away the lip and it then came out. Then tried to fit new electric mover and it dosent fit the hole pfffft
Thanks for your comment, glad it was of help.
We were thinking of doing the same conversion, as getting Calorlite 6kg refills is getting nigh impossible. We also don't use a great deal of gas, as we usually go on electric hook ups, so 2 x 5kg would suit us fine, and give us a weight reduction on the nose weight. All the Homebase stores near us have dozens of those bottles in stock, whereas nobody has any Calorlite cylinders, so I think we will bite the bullet cost wise, to save the supply hassle in the long run. Thanks for the video, looks easy to do.
Hi, thank you for your comment. Initially we changed for the weight saving & being able to see how much gas we had left was an added bonus. Now with the problems people are having with Calor, the change was definitely the right thing to do as Homebase has always had stock of Gaslight bottles.
Thanks I’ve just dragged my cable as well and didn’t know what to do and putting the junction box in front lockers brilliant idea and if I hadn’t done it l wouldn’t have searched for and found your video thank again
Hi, Thanks for your comment. It’s not a nice feeling when you find the cable has been dragging on the road. Once you get your mind round the repair it’s quite straightforward. Thanks again.
Would not think that electrics in the gas locker are a good idea
Exactly the same thing happened to me recently, despite being very careful how I plugged the cable in. I always twist the cable round a few times which effectively shortens it and avoids the dragging, but this time, bizarrely, it didn't work. I was fortunate, as my RAC roadside cover could be invoked. The two halves of the cable were simply spliced back together, using proper connectors and sealing tape, and after a three hour delay I could resume my journey. It was such a good job that I don't even need to replace the cable.
Hi Mark, same, I used to twist the cable to shorten it & this time it didn’t work.
do you only need to level one side ? what about the front ?
william holdum Hi William, only one side of the caravan needs levelling. The lowest side of the caravan needs to be raised. Front to back is levelled using only the jockey wheel.
@@thecaravanus4067 ok thank you
@@thecaravanus4067 ps how do you know which side to level
william holdum Hi William, if you put a small spirit level on the floor or other flat surface of the caravan it will show which side needs levelling. If the bubble of the level favours the near side then the off side would need to raised. Same applies to front & back.
@@thecaravanus4067 ok thank you
Lovely 😊
Just watched you greasing your corner steadied Would recommend that you degrease them and get all soil grit and old grease of them as your just putting clean grease over all this Screw fix sell heavy duty degreaser 5ltr £8.99 Really good stuff as well
Tina Jones Hi thanks for your comment & advice. I did initially go about it the wrong way & added new over old. It’s a job I still need to sort out so I’ll be visiting ScrewFix for the degreaser. Thanks again.
Nice one Andrew, I had not heard of the Bulldog leveller or the actual level you demonstrated for us really well... 👍🏻 Thank you for explaining your method and showing us the gear used, I am quite impressed tbh and may consider investing for next year’s travels... ✅ Thanks again, cheers for now, Rog... 😉 🐍
looks like a really good job! thanks for sharing. like these type of videos....great commentary too
Very neat repair and with the added bonus if it happens again the fix is easier :-) Thanks for sharing.
Desmond's Donders Hi, thanks for you comment. It was a thought that it would be easier if it were to happen again. Fingers crossed it never will... 😀
@@thecaravanus4067 I hope it doesn't !! Missed you comment about the High and Low Forces last night. Love the area but it is difficult to park up by High Force. I caught my first ever trout on the Tees just below the Falls :-)
Great job will use your ideas Thank you
I think you have picked the correct way of fixing this. Makes for easy repair if it happens again (fingers crossed id does not).
I always worry about this. Hopefully you'll get sorted without problems.
Hi, It’s alway been a worry when looping the cable but until this trip it’s been fine. Ive always checked & double checked and I thought all was good, we all know what thought did? After visiting a local caravan dealer/service I now have all the relevant parts to sort it out. I’m assured it’s a very straightforward job & weather permitting, I’ll be tackling it this weekend. Thanks.
Excellent. Hope you’ll be doing a vlog on the repair. Think it will be very good content to put out.
@@CarrsCaravan I will be doing the repair as a vlog & posting early next week.
You should get a coiled cable then just put a socket on the caravan.
Done that with old set and 13 pin set up. There should be a club. LOL
