In this episode, I finally wire up some of the lights, switches and fit a couple of sockets so I'm no longer tripping over trailing sockets! Join me as I try to remember how I installed a load of cables a few years ago and discover what wire does what? As with all my videos, consider this purely as entertainment. Below Deck - A garden project
Переглядів 1788 місяців тому
Yet another incomplete project I've been working on! This time, I'm garden creating a space for my daughters hot tub underneath the raised decking area. This space wouldn't have been a very usable space as it was, in the shade and uneven ground, so it made sense to create a sheltered space for the hot tub and much further down the road, we will enclose it for use as a catio for Mango (our indoo...
Plasterboarding (Or how not to!)
Переглядів 2549 місяців тому

Plumbing - Adding new radiators
Переглядів 3,8 тис.10 місяців тому
In this episode, I finally bite the bullet and drain the central heating down to install plumbing for two new radiators in the lower ground floor annexe. Whilst drained, I tackle re-routing the flow pipe to tidy up the appalling job the installer did. Inspired by one of PB Plumbers videos, I invest in all new plastic pipe, fittings and tools - Tectite Classic. I figured if it was good enough fo...

You'retaking me back to the good old days as a setting out engineer : - )
Considering I’m making it up as I go along, I’ll take that as a compliment! 😁👍🏻
@@workingonthehouse8038 definitely is! Although we did descend to marking the depth of drainage pipe on our wellington boots when it was pissing down, so you're ahead there : - )
Meg knows you so well! Nice one Steve.
Far too late now, but it's normal practice to put insulation between the concrete slab and the wall to reduce cold bridging. Good job over all.
@@michaeldibb Hi Michael, yes. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! After watching many Steve & Alex Bricklaying videos, I picked up on this. It should also have been two layers of visqueen 😙
FFS, What seriously dreadful background noise. Is that genuinely the best you could do? Watched with it muted. 🤮🤮🤮
Thank you for watching (muted) and your constructive criticism. Merry Christmas Andrew 👍🏻😁

hi what is the make and model of the laser you are using many thanks
@@andyman1032 Hi Andy. Doesn’t look like a current model, the closest one I can see is: uk.huepar.com/products/huepar-b03cg-pro-laser-level Looks to be very similar. USB C charging, 3 x lasers (horizontal, vertical and perpendicular) carry case and pulse mode (so you can use a receiver) Hand on heart, it has been a really good purchase and made several jobs much easier.
total rubbish video! It got half way and then became photos of advanced stages with no advice or help! ( dont get a job at a technical collage!)
Get the laser level out..! 😃
Will the moisture still not travel up the walls outside the DPC? I have an existing concrete floor which I want to take up to put in underfloor heating. Theres an existing DPC underneath. Would i just replace the old dpc and connect it to the existing one? Also what about a radon barrier in those floors?
Thank you. The tip at the end about the mistake in sealing the gap at the bottom of the window was most helpful, because this is exactly what my builder was going to do; of course, I stopped him. The gap is there on all my windows; the damp is only there below one window; so, the gap is obviously not the source of the problem. We did find another problem with the relevant window, which the builder fixed; now hoping that the area below stays dry this winter. Thanks.
@@Vijay-we4iw you’re welcome, really glad it was useful 👍🏻It’s a good few years since I did this work and it has remained bone dry (and a lot warmer) since
Very good video. Top job.
@@fuzzy3210 Thank you 🙏
What did you use to pack between the new concrete foundation and existing ? Dry pack ?

Great vid- reminded me, could batten and insulate a cold bay dwarf wall, as ocassional mold from condensation.
Thank you! Amazing how instructive a video can be without endless talking - just captions, clear shots and real time at the right moment..
@@ThomasCoryate Thank you for your lovely feedback, means a lot 🙏 Though technically, I should’ve used a second membrane over the insulation. Watch Steve and Alex on the tube to see how it SHOULD be done 😁! youtube.com/@steveandalexbuild?si=qrlLE45crs4maefI
steel placement is not the best method
Great video. Thank you. One tip to make it even better: always leave the subtitles displayed for the length of time it takes you to read them three times. This will make it much easier for your viewers to recognize read and interpret your message.
Looks great , like the rebar not many would use that , nice.

It's Steve! one of my favorite channels!
Thank you for this video. I will be doing a slab project myself this month and I like your idea of leaving your stakes in during your ground leveling process before the pour.
Thanks, it worked really well. I used the same method on the courtyard renovation I did, that worked quite well too.
Real Shame you never listed what colour wire are what on the car
Hi mate. Hopefully this will point you in the right direction 👍🏻 Ground - Brown O/S (right) Indicator - Green/black tracer N/S (left) Indicator - possibly black/white tracer N/S side light - Grey/black tracer O/S side light - Grey/red tracer Brake - Black/red tracer

I haven't been following your work religiously but from what I have seen, you may not be a professional builder, me neither, but you're a clever man and I take my hat off to you for the unbelievable work you've done so far. You appear very knowledgeable and seem to take everything in your stride. You have my respect!
Thank you Ricky, that’s really kind of you. None of it comes easy, but it can be really rewarding 👍🏻
That's brilliant Steve.

Nice work Steve.
Thanks Miles, it’s a big visual change!
Good work old chum!
Thanks Nick!
Oh my! You're back!
Have you missed me? 😁
@@workingonthehouse8038 of course I did! You're one of my fav UA-cam channels, I've learned so much watching you fix stuff and doing it wrong/right, and getting through it to have a great completed project at the end. I admire what you're doing because if I did what you do,it would be filled with bleeps, cos I would be cursing ever 5 seconds, and you're all chill about it.
What went on top of the concrete, more insulation?
Hi, no. Nothing as of yet. But I intend to use a self-levelling screed to unify the whole area 👍🏻
😂
Hi I was just curious why didn’t you use copper coming out the wall to the radiators, was it for looks and appearance with chrome elbow as well.cheers
Thanks for the question. I think the Tectite looks good (doesn’t tarnish or anything) but the copper elbows would have looked out of place. I just thought the chrome elbows and chromium plated copper pipe is a nice detail. I’ve used chrome wrap before, but it does discolour over time. So, to actually answer your question, yes 😁
Why choose tectite? Just curious. I hate the stuff. Much prefer hep2o
Hi Colin. I like the fact you can shape it and it will maintain that shape. The fittings are slim too. I used to use and like the old grey hep2o, but don’t rate the newer white stuff. I would have gone the pressfit route, but the cost of the tool AND the fittings is beyond my budget!
@workingonthehouse8038 ah got you. The grey hep is shocking now. None barrier. Amount of systems I've pulled that stuff out of because of the sludge issues it causes. Only problem with hep2o now is the price 😆
I never thought to use a pipe bender on plastic pipe; interesting.
It’s a foil lined barrier pipe. Tectite classic. There is a specific tool for straightening it too which is really impressive. Have a look through pblumbers videos, I decided to invest in this kit because of one of his videos. I subsequently discovered that you need to use barrier pipe on central heating as standard plastic can allow oxygen to permeate through leading to corrosion issues 🤓
Brilliant
What laser level do you have?
It’s a Huepar bought direct from their website: uk.huepar.com It has a rechargeable battery, charged by USB C, lasts a good time
Are using the imperial or metric measurement protocol..make your mind up 😊😊
CLS in 2.4m lengths of 3” by 2” is a favourite 🤪
Plumbers use both. Actually most trades use both systems.
@colin4685 yeah I suppose 8ft is easier to remember than 2438.4 millimetres 😆
You are a legend
Thanks 👍🏻😁
Please tell me that you made those bubble noises at the beginning yourself! 😄 Well done on getting back at it buddy - it's a big job. 🙂
I’m afraid I can’t take credit for that! That’s stock iMovie sounds 😉 And yeah, it’s pretty daunting 😯
Looks like you've lost some subscribers which is a shame
It’s a challenge, I feel as though the content is improving, but I haven’t gained much momentum in channel growth. But, I enjoy doing it (so far) and hopefully a few viewers enjoy watching it too 😁
@@workingonthehouse8038 stick with it, regular uploads help with the algorithm. Also upload more shorts as that will bring you more viewers which will lead to more subscribers
