Spongebob and the 2024 Election
In this video I talk about the 2024 US presidential election, and relate it to a similar situation with Spongebob's 9th season.
In some weird coincidence, the script I wrote to this video about the 2024 election, contained 2024 words. I swear that was unplanned.
How long until I get accused of being a Trump supporter and a Trump hater in the same comments section?

    I'm sorry, but commenting on political events might not be your area of expertise. The presentation feels bland and derivative, often going over the same points over and over again, the connection to SpongeBob is *extremely* tenous at best, and only works if you don't believe there are fans who actually enjoy the newer seasons (Which there are, so this assumption of "gaslighting" is really condescending) and if USA is socially conservative overall, how does that make Trump a leftist candidate? Doesn't add up. I don't want to harp on you too much for trying to do something different, but this wasn't my cup of tea.

    • @BradenINSANE
      @BradenINSANE 6 днів тому

      @AlkisenSuper Trump being a leftist is the problem. He got voted in by a socially conservative electorate because he was able to convince those people he was one of them when he isn't. The point I was making about Trump's left leaning tendencies is that a healthy conservative movement shouldn't have a person like that as their mascot. As for the connection to Spongebob Squarepants, the throughline to this whole video is comparing groups of people who expected one thing and will receive something entirely different.

    • @BradenINSANE
      @BradenINSANE 7 днів тому

      @thechosenduck7841 Not everything can or should be produced domestically, and the US doesn't lose much by producing our goods cheaply overseas. The US doesn't need more entry level manufacturing jobs for consumer goods. The problem with the job market in the US is that it's oversaturated with college graduates unable to find higher level work, having to settle for retail or food service. Producing consumer goods in the US only exacerbates this problem by adding more of a type of job the US doesn't need more of.

    • @thechosenduck7841
      @thechosenduck7841 7 днів тому

      @@BradenINSANE so what your saying is for some reason that u didn’t state we can’t make things domestically. Something about college students not getting good jobs for their degrees which a lot of them are and having more jobs in the US is never going to be a bad think because their is more job opportunities and those companies will actually have people to hire even more so now with all the immigrants that came to the country if they become legal now we would have to compete for jobs because there is a surpluses of them. I’ve never heard anyone say more jobs in America is a bad thing

    We voted trump because he made the dollar more valuable, not just because things were cheaper. We voted trump because prices went down as a result of the U.S dollar being more valuable because of a more efficient economy that did not create inflation to temporarily deal with bad economic decisions or pure greed. Inflation happens because of demand. If a poor choice is made and car fuel whether gas or diesel is no longer supplied to better match with demand, the price of fuel will increase, which then makes running machines used in manufacturing, generating electricity, operating vehicles that supply goods (semis and trains) more expensive. To cover these extra costs, these leaves suppliers with no choice but to increase the price of their products, thus creating inflation. In short, Inflation occurs either under corrupt politicians or poor management of the economy. A stable economy is far more valuable than an unstable one.

    Agreed with everything until you got to "The Economy" and it became immediately obvious you've never taken economics. All my friends in IT have been making $20 an hour since about 2014-2016. We all now make... $20 an hour. I am skipping meals. I don't throw out socks when they get holes in them anymore. Those "wage increases" are utter nonsense. They regularly change HOW they get these numbers (like they do for unemployment numbers). Take a look at who and where these increases are going to, it's going to people who were already making 6 figures or higher. The rent/purchase price of housing alone, even if food was FREE is so unconscionable, it wouldn't be enough. I would love to see anyone try to pretend wages are ahead of that.

    • @BradenINSANE
      @BradenINSANE 7 днів тому

      @@johnmcphee9439 If you've taken an economics course before and the most you can do is provide personal anecdotes and not facts or statistics then I don't care

    • @johnmcphee9439
      @johnmcphee9439 7 днів тому

      @@BradenINSANE Well it's hard to talk about "why do people feel this way" without using anecdotes because that's how the average person is thinking about it but fair enough, you need numbers. I did like the video and I think you made a lot of good points but I DO think you're missing something with why people feel this way. I do NOT think that ANYONE is thinking "Oh, the economy was great under Trump, we want that back". The electorate is reacting to DECADES of worsening economic conditions, not as a reaction to what a Big Mac costs. It's housing, healthcare education, and utilities. Those are were people are feeling it. In my opinion, groceries or toiletries is a distraction and Kamala's focus on smaller things like groceries and price gouging instead of those four larger issues is the reason she lost. The statistic you showed from FRED of the price index for all items is simply not useful in this situation. First, It is quite literally comparing apples to oranges. Some things go up in price, some things like TV's have consistently gone down in price despite inflation. Second, it's not the problem people are having. The price of a roll of toilet paper may be stable, but it now feels impossible to pay for because you just dumped 60% of your pay into rent. Here's a statistic that I think better represents the mood. We're going to compare wages and houses over time, just to highlight how the standard for a "good economy" has changed. 50 years ago was 1974, at that time, the federal minimum wage was $2. 40hrs. a week makes that 4160 a year. The median house price according to census .gov was 31200. That house cost 7.5 times your salary, and that was for the ABSOLUTE BOTTOM pay you could be making. Now let's compare to today, now this is the fun part because I'm going to cheat for your side and make it easier for you. Instead of going with the $7.25, Federal minimum wage, lets go with the $15 minimum wage that some states such as mine is adopting and compare that to the median house price in the entire country. Keep in mind, the median house price for the country includes the lower priced houses in states were the minimum wage is the federal minimum wage. 15hr. full time is ironically $31200 a year. The median house price is $420,400 according to FRED. That is 13.4 times your salary. The burden of obtaining the most base, low level, animal need to have shelter has DOUBLED in 50 years. That is despite us having superior technology, superior productivity, and a larger economy. Nobody cares you can get more iPhones per work hour now than 15 years ago. There is no mental gymnast nimble enough to convince the electorate that any statistic other than "how much house/healthcare/bills/education per hour of effort am I getting" matters. I think the Trump economy was bad. I thought Obama's was bad. Joe's was bad. Trump's second go will most definitely also be bad, and because of that, I think the Dems will win in 2028 if they can articulate a vision to fix the cost of housing, healthcare, education and utilities. We will keep switching back and forth until either the problem is fixed, or we have a few dozen trillionaires lording over an underclass of people (you and me) who will work 16 hours a day to lease pods in dormitories and rent our clothing, while people on the internet tell you you should be thankful for the privilege.

    While you're not wrong to assume that tarrifs will make things worse for the economy, there is 1 thing I think WILL make things better: Deporting the criminal aliens that crossed the border illegally. All those jobs these aliens are taking up & stealing from our younger generations of Americans? If we get them out & give the jobs, housing, etc, where they belong, to actual American citizens, that could make up for the tarrifs.

  • @completelybraindead

    "hurrrr durrrr wages rising faster than inflation" Whoms? Definitely not mine, or anyone I know. What utter nonsense. Not that inflation isn't 50% trumps fault, but whatever data your using is absurd, and these malformed statistics are part of the reason you lost the election. "people voted for trump because they remember 4 years ago" No, they voted for him because the diversity hire of a senile old man was in fact not the lesser of two evils. His policies of cutting regulations, with the addition of the big names he brought in are some of the biggest reasons he won. I'm sure you've been propagandized to find the heavy hitters laughable, but despite your best efforts their ideas resonated with the majority of Americans. Most people understand tariffs make foreign goods more expensive. We don't care. What we are after is bringing production back to the US, so that the wealth isn't extracted from our economy for some dogwater tier goods. We can also keep costs down of domestic goods simultaneously by producing more fossil fuels. The energy cost is one of the biggest factors when it comes to pricing of literally everything. This is something your suicide cult refuses to recognize. Any replacement energy besides nuclear and hydro is a meme. We've already dammed everywhere there is to dam, and fusion has 20+ years to go. You predict cognitive dissonance? Well you're already right about that. You just need to look in the mirror in order to see it.

    "There is no universe where the US benefits form tarifs and Argentina doesn't." Not true at all! Argentinaian workers are often hired by US companies replacing US workers. The US also has a large enough energy and manufacturing base to be much more self sufficient in these areas. Assuming a policy like international trade treaties has a single optimal solution for all countries is quite the assertion. EDIT - Oh, you're an economics bro. I'm a business major. Now I gotta tell you, my reasoning to vote for trump is very little to do with what you are talking about. These are what the left wing assumes rational is and then hone in on tariffs you got a kamala harris rally. Are the tariffs a bad idea? Yes, but also not easy to obtain for alot of what you are saying. As well, it's very possible trump could use the threat of tariffs as leverage. Bottom line though, I think trump will lower taxes which is in direct contrast to kamalas rhetoric as well I do think in many ways trumps stance against regulations will be of great benefit to the economy. That's why the dow and s&p 500 have gone up That's their focus. Now I know you gotta a job to do fear mongering but I will tell you as someone who's taken economy classes for 4 years. I will be deeply shocked if even 10% of what you are suggesting comes true or if the tarrifs go through..... side note I also do find it hilarious you are honing in on tarrifs but not talking about how kamala wanted to straight up surge capital gains taxes on your stock value and eliminate copyrights (also comparing trump to bernie for wanting tarrifs is wild man) stick to lost media before your channel becomes about lost subscribers 😂
