Wow! I'm in shock! A POSITVE, non-critical comment! ;) but seriously, I DO expect mostly silly criticism when I post these things. I think people usually reveal their own insecurities and project them onto me, so I do very much appreciate the encouragement. Unfortunately for me, I stuck on this path regardless.
@@tclane47 Haha! I have no reason to criticize, but only reason to applaud someone who'll post what they're working on in a public forum like this or TB. I'm an EB player who hangs out on the DB side because the technique/theory/pedagogy conversations are on a much higher level than the BG side. I'm about two years into my ten year plan to be proficient at walking jazz bass. I started playing nonseriously about 6 years ago, then when COVID hit I just went all-in. I'm on a BG for practical reasons: a DB just wouldn't work in my life as-is. - ProbablyTooLoud.
@@anguswhyte8491 Good for you! My guess is that in 10 years you'll be very proficient on your walking bass lines. I know I was. And, IMO, there's no shame in sticking with the BG because it's a great instrument, different than DB, but it's its own axe and when played well, can be wonderful. It's too much for me to handle these days and I have my hands full with the DB, so I sold my BGs but I'm all for great BG players. Check out this guy: ua-cam.com/video/biM3eIet_Fg/v-deo.html
@@tclane47 wow that guy is impressive! His lyricism is soothing. And thanks for the encouragement. In terms of learning songs, one part of my process now is doing that prescriptive "really learning a tune" thing posted by Ed Fuqua over on TB. Part of achieving my goal is literally endless repetitions of the four songs I chose, one of which is the Gershwin "I Got Rhythm." I kind of assume all jazz players go through this phase.
@@anguswhyte8491 Hi Angus, I have some comments that might be helpful for you but this probably isn't the right place. Can you message me on TB with your email address? I'd like to send you a chart that might be useful for you.
Followed over from TB. Thanks for sharing. Enjoyed this.
