Sri Dalada Maligawa, commonly known in English as the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the Royal Palace Complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.
Asgiri Maha Vihara Pirivena temple is a major temple in Kandy. It combines several genres and also our personal visit there was memorable. On the one hand the architectural buildings are quite interesting, as well there is just something about this space, there is some kind of good energy around if you want to believe, but also the beautiful and intricately drawn murals on the walls inside the temple are wonderful. The front prayer hall is painted quite nicely, and then the main stupa hall is completely covered from floor to ceiling. Those artworks are not just beautiful drawings, they also tell important stories and convey information about historical events. They are magnificent, but not ancient and have been painted as a make over around 2010 after the temple was renovated. But this also means there are fresh images with clear colors and easily perceptible scenarios.
The temple on the hill of Bahirawakanda, called the Sri Maha Bodhi Viharaya, is most well-known to tourists for its giant Buddha statue, which can be seen from almost any point in the city of Kandy. Built in 1972, the statue shows Lord Buddha seated in the Nirvana pose, which is the position associated with his first Enlightenment. Reaching a height of more than 25 metres, it is one of the tallest statues of Buddha in Sri Lanka.

Nelligala International Buddhist Center is a modern Buddhist temple situated in the village of Muruthalawa in Kandy District, 13 km (8 miles) west of Kandy city by road. The constructions of the Nelligala Temple were commenced in 2015, the foundations were carried out with the help of the Sri Lanka Army. The Sri Lankan architects were Roshan Somadheera and his son. The inspiring founder was Ven. Wathurakumbure Dhammaratana Thero, who more recently also developed the restoration of the historical Kuragala temple on the Balangoda-Kaltota road B38.
Degaldoruwa Raja Maha Vihara is a Buddhist rock temple in Amunugama, Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is famous for its Kandyan Era Frescoes.The cave itself was said to have been excavated out of a rock which rises to a height of approximately 12.3 m (40 ft) and shelters the shrine room and entrance chamber.Details of the temple's construction and the royal land grant are contained on the Degaldoruwa Tamba Sannasa (Copper Plate). Construction began in 1771 during the reign of King Kirti Sri Rajasinha [1747-1782 AD] by his younger brother, Rajadhi Rajasinha and was completed by Rajasinha after he ascended to the throne.Following its completion, Rajasinghe placed it in the custody of a learned monk, Moratota Dhammakkanda Maha Nayaka Thera [1734-1811], who was also Rajasingha's teacher and chief advisor.
