Very interesting video, thank you for your hard work on this language! It was very useful for the Wayfinder prop we had to make.
... this is time lord script from doctor who the tv show
really cool system though :)
@@drwho992 it is indeed! This script me and my friend, Loren Sherman, and others in our community have been developing for over a decade is the very same that went viral in the doctor who community and became official with their recent release of their own translator tool! Yes, me and my friends did, indeed, create the language of the time lords from Doctor Who!
What was the process by which this was decoded?
Where’s the blue box???
Sirkles was what got me into neography! Thank you so much 🙏
I picked up Gallifreyan during the pandemic and still dabble. Love to see this!
Alas the time has come
Started transcribing back in like 2012-2013 off and on till current so I find this VERY cool. Some differences between the current Sirkles script and the new BBC app that I found incase anyone's interested. Vowels that are not attached to a letter are shifted inward, so for say "Apple" I would consider the first letter E in current Sirkels script, lone E's look like O's etc. This makes unattached O's look kinda funny being so shifted inwards (though maybe it was intentional since unattached O's do seem to align with the center of the word circle. and its consistent so I suppose it's still legible ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). Also digraphs such as Th, Ch, Sh, Ng & Qu exist while Ph, Wh, Gh, Nd, & Nt don't exist, Q's default to Qu in sirkles script, and C's seem to ALWAYS default to K's regardless of how the word sounds so "Circles" is written as "Kirkles" as opposed to the classical "Sirkles" from before C was added. I can only assume they were using an old/outdated version of translation chart, or perhaps there was some level of confusion or interpretation. I also agree that the community is more than happy to help/contribute. :)
I’m less sure that these things are proper ‘differences’ as much as simple ‘glitches’ like you would find with most translator apps. This is my thinking because the official script still seems to be working their ‘kinks’ out, as evidenced by the rotational direction of the words changing between the release of the sonic screwdriver and this app. I expect the unenclosed vowels will be ‘fixed’ down the road, much like the orientation was earlier and much like the ‘dot stacking’ that occurs in larger sentences… (if you type in a 9-10+ word sentence, instead of distinguishable dots. You get one blob…. Making two-three letter dot letters ambiguous. I also maintain that the unenclosed ‘e’ and ‘o’ are ambiguous, as the ‘o’ actually isn’t centered, but is where it would intersect with the innermost point of a ‘j’ letter stem. I’m thinking that there might have been a tiny mistake with using an invisible ‘j’ letter stem as a place holder rather than the ‘t’ or ‘th’ letter stem for an inclosed vowel. (And, in the community of scribes, I’ve taken to calling the product of this app ‘Kirkles’ rather than ‘Sirkles’ and will do so until they add the ‘c’ at the beginning of ‘circles’ as a soft ‘s’ sound. ;)
Also also, since the VERY Beginning, we’ve done the script constantly. Every design ‘correctly’ written (even on day one) will still be accurate today. This is because we’ve been careful to add stuff that never makes what was one ‘correct’ now ‘incorrect.’ Such additions include the one dot and four dot letters, more punctuation, and advanced letter stacking. While this app does seem to only do the basics of what version one of Sirkles can do, (no letter C, only double letter stacking… etc), the differences in how it looks and reads boil down to the limitations of the code in the app and whoever wrote it… and I expect (and hope) that the official script continues to improve (and do so before people get too many tattoos with incorrect vowels and dots) that will later be retconned by the official translator app.
@@TheSkribeOfSirkles Thank you for mentioning everything I didnt, and the additional information/history was very fascinating! Also the reference to the products of the app as 'Kirkles' until the soft 's' is added pleases me to no end and has made my day. :)

Too much. Come on now. You wonder why we're freaking the whole world out? We're gay, chicka. Case closed. Do something constructive
So you would call for the erasure of the beautiful diversity in our community, just to cater to those who hate us? Round out our edges? Don't be a pick me.
@GeodeRegan22 I don't call for anything other than people just having the freedom to be who they are, and harm no other. We don't need all of these categories. It's absurd, isn't it? I just don't feel like this huge list of labels represents anything about being gay and or trans. It represents instead, some sort of OCD desire to be subclassified. Do we want that? So we want to be classified and subclassified, and sub-subclassified? We're not insects. That's why they treat us like we are in so many cases, insects.
Spot on.
@@Alice-the-sealgay/trans are umbrella terms for a reason. the different "classes" as you call them, are there so people can identify with a label that captures their experience. does that make sense?

Hi! I just started down a gallifreyan rabbit hole and your videos caught my attention! I really love this graphic you made explaining everything in one place. Along with a whole host of questions I'm figuring out as I do more research, I was curious to know what font you're using in this video? I believe you call it "linearized gallifreyan" in another video and I'm very curious if that's something I could download and use.

as dyslexic i can't follow it very well but over all it looks pretty. Gallifreyan is very neat, but I'd probably have to color code words to read it. I tried to learn it in HS and could only do the straight line version
it does very much spiral and twist together... very unfriendly to dyslexic eyes.

Apologies if you've gotten this question before but were you able to type in more basic linear sirkles script just under the words for this transcription? if so that is so cool and I wish i knew how to set inkscape up to do that because I often write stuff out like that before I do any of my own sketches etc so I can keep track of how many lines/dots I need per letter etc.
