@pw709 wow that must be difficult! Rent for just a one bedroom where I live would be more than half of that! I had to go back to school to increase my salary but I didn't have a family then, just a full time job.

​@kronsonfamily Our rent is 1565, so it is more than half. 😢 I'm taking one class per semester but it will take awhile before it's fruitful.

@wunderwriter1 I'm so glad you like the spreadsheet! For either the transactions or the sinking funds, you can highlight the last row and drag the corner down as far as you need to and it should continue to work to allow you to add more.

@OnmywaytoFI Wow, you are making amazing progress with those contributions! You have such a good plan! My Roth contributions are only about a quarter of my portfolio so I should increase them. And if you take into account my husbands, which are mostly pre-tax, we have a long way to go. I think I want them to be about half.

@sebastianbucur5135 we are really focusing on paying off debt this year then we should be able to increase our savings. I consider my retirement loan to be debt payment but it is also a contribution to retirement so paying that back will also boost our investments.

@SuperBogdanek Thanks! Yes you can definitely just log what's left. Since I use these as virtual cash envelopes it helps me to log each transaction and have the sheet add them all up for me.

@cpg0973 That is really awesome! We don't plan to pay off our house early but once we get our other debts paid off (hopefully in 2025) we will be shaving off over 1k a month of expenses.

@SuperBogdanek the Budget tab is mostly for entering in the inputs used on the other sheets but you can also see if the income you are expecting for the year will cover all your spending

@@kronsonfamily You're absolutely right! Here's a tip, tho: always ask yourself how can I increase my family income? Maybe you need a better paid job, maybe buying and selling baby items on eBay, maybe learning a new skill that will help you earn more. But reduce your expenses and increase your income should go hand in hand.

@sebastianbucur5135 so true! I could probably increase my income and my husband could definitely increase his. He's so undervalued and underpaid at his current job, but he likes it there so what can I do?

@@kronsonfamily Quantify. Sit down with him and put it all on paper. Quantify how much your fam budget would increase had he changed his job. [What's measured gets cut. If you don't measure.. you will not cut].

@sebastianbucur5135 Sound advice and he knows how impactful it would be if he made more money. He could easily work where I do and almost double his salary but he's been where he is his whole career and it's a small company that's almost like a family business. But I could do the same by going to work for Google or Microsoft or something but I'm choosing the stability of my workplace where layoffs never happen over a bump in pay.

@FIRE_DrNinjaTurtle It's not reflected in the goals sheet but it is a little in the annual projection doughnut which is also similar to how each monthly budget and the annual summary will display savings, spending, and debt as a percentage of income.

@FIRE_DrNinjaTurtle our savings rate is typically around 40% of our gross income if you consider our employer matches. Mine is 14.5 (4+10.5) and my husband's is 6 (3+3) so that gets us off to a really good start!

@Nikki45106 this will be my first year using the DCFSA too. If it's like the FSA you would get all the funds upfront and then pay into it all year long.

The way it works for me is each paycheck gets the dcfsa deduction and goes into the dcfsa account. Then you can submit claims against the dcfsa account throughout the year using the receipts from your childcare provider. I typically wait until I get like $500 or $1000 at a time, but I don’t think there would be anything stopping you from doing it every paycheck if you really wanted to.

@JamyRyals That's good to know! I would probably do a few reimbursements throughout the year because it takes about 3-4 months to spend $5k on daycare anyway.

@BovineBudgeting Yay for investing this week! I was actually just looking at the sources of my loan in Vanguard (I didn't know I could before) and I noticed that about half of my loan was pulled from my Roth accounts so I'm only getting doubled taxed on about half of it, fortunately.
