The Highlander Goes Off-Piste At Crewe
GB Railfreight Class 92, 92043 "50 Years Service - Andy Withers" makes a rare foray into Platform 1 at Crewe with the Caledonian Sleeper Down Highlander (1S25) on 25/26 October 2023.
The earlier derailment of Freightliner's 4M63 blocking the south end of Basford Hall yard was meaning freight trains were needing to pass through the station rather than via the Independent Lines. That said, with the usual 'Plan B' Platform 12 vacant throughout - and passengers originally being directed there - it was a mystery as to why Crewe Box held 1S25 outside the station for 36 minutes, then ultimately put it into Platform 1.

Led by Mk4 DVT 82229, TfW set HD02 67008 haul stricken HD07 67020 through Goostrey late on 15/07/2023. 67008 HD02 were terminated short at Stockport on 1W63 and then ran as 1Z99 to Chelford Loop to assist 1V62 as far as Crewe, where the service was terminated. 1V62 was officially 227 Late passing Goostrey, although looked to be empty.

Having had a couple of days to sleep off the previous weekend’s exertions with well over 1,100 miles worked on InterCity's "The Clansman" and its ECS legs, Class 87, 87002 “Royal Sovereign” was back in action in the sidings at Crewe limbering up and looking ahead to its next adventure on The East Anglian two weeks away. Glad you liked it. Driver is a friend of mine and born and bred in North Wales so a return to his home patch for him. Flow starts in earnest on Friday.

Good to see,how many tons does each wagon hold ?.
JNAs can hold a payload of c.80 tonnes, so 23 wagons is something like 1,800 tonnes. Add in the weight of the wagons themselves and you’re looking at a 2,300+ tonne train.

She was at this point as the signaller put a light engine Class 66 out in front of it at Winsford. However, she was wound up the full 110 mph later in the day a few times 👍🏻

It seems ridiculous that these fine engines are sitting here whilst most of the freight on the electrified WCML and 3rd rail lines south of London is hauled by polluting diesels.
Yeah I agree, exactly I see RTT on WCML always pathed as a diesel locomotive and I think this is not right, should get these four locos running again
Delighted to see this excellent machine has been overhauled and back in service.
a single 59 can handle 40 wagons, so I can't see why a 660 or 70 shouldn't be able to do it single handed.
A standard 66 would struggle due to some of the gradients on the route. A 70 would be fine - as per the video description the 66/6 is DIT (not powering) and it’s just the 70 doing the work here. The 66/6 was in the consist for insurance as it was the first trial run. Also meant it was already on the wagons when this “double train” split at Wembley Yard to go to its respective destinations.
