Giant Stance 1 Spider Mountain Mountain bike ride
I have a '97 Ram 1500 with a 5.9 360 V8 auto with 304,305 miles on it so far and still going strong with the original engine and trans. I think the best way to keep these going is to buy an external trans cooler on them, first thing I did to mine and change the fluid regularly and they will last. I've owned it for a little over 11 years now and I've put 112,000 miles on it so for myself. I gave $1600 for it going on 12 years and I'm going to drive it until it won't run anymore or I can't drive anymore one, will see how long it will go.
Thanks, just bought a 2023 1500 Tradesman with the Hemi.
Really beautiful and what a great challenge trip!
Way gnarly dude!
Cool place to ride! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great review. My 2011 ram 1500 has had zero prob and zero leaks. It is the best truck i have ever owned. I have only 74000 miles 5.7 hemi😊
Great video 👍 I have a 2010 5.7 4x4 bighorn edition and it only has 68k on the odo. Use it for towing a 23' boat (6,500lbs) on the weekends and every year make a round trip from Melbourne FL to NJ. Have not had any mechanical issues so far. Living 900ft from the beach the biggest problem is corrosion. Had to replace both fenders, rocker panels, and bumpers and had repair work done to the tailgate. Cleaned up the grounding lug on the fender and coated the connection. Bought truck new and purchased the Chrysler factory lifetime warranty ($3,500). Under that warranty the dealer replaced the digital display module (faded out), HVAC blower control and ballast resistor, water pump (water pipe to heater corroded) , both mirrors and the idler pulleys. The one thing I really loveett about this truck is the rear coil suspension. This truck gives a ride better than most cars do. Great on long trips. Hope to get another 15 years out of this truck. Love it
So sigma
In the newer version with 8 speed zf, transmission service is required every 80k km
old video but i see a issue radiator cap i bet needs replaced i see the hose is collapsed
Way cool!! I wanna try it when we come to see you!!
A ram will go a good while with regular maintenance man.
Ok
Knot is on the wrong side by the looks of it
All I see is a dude that needs a busspass not a truck
I know man I just can't find one, had to get a corolla instead. then a bicycle
Did you have any key ignition alarm issues ?
What exhaust is on this truck ?
Played around with it a lot, but at the end I had long tubes 3" and routed the two pipes past the transmission (stock it goes right under and makes it a pain to change the fluid and there is plenty of room further down) to an X-pipe then Y-pipe to the sotck muffler and stock resonators. It sounded great but still quiet on the highway. Had a flow master 40 on there but it had a bad drone on the highway. long tubes to x-pioe is the way to go, x-pipe makes it sound better but quieter a bit at low RPMs. I didn't try the x-pipe to an aftermarket muffler, that may have been more quiet on the highway. I love a good truck sound but for me its a higher priority being quiet and not drawing public (and cops) attention to my self.
Keep the videos coming
appreciated... 2014 SLT 5.9 Hemi-owner
Nice review. I have a 2010 Dodge Laramie loaded all options except ram box. I have 31 K miles. Had to replace 3 radios, the alternator, and the left seat heater all under warranty. I also replaced tires with Michelins for old dry rot tires. Have to kept it on a trickle charge I don’t drive it enough and battery will go dead if not charging.
Cool to hear about your rig! Ya I installed an apple car play kenwood with a backup camera and never had issues with it. The stock stereo had lots of funky issues. 31k just a baby, keep up with those oil changes.
What size is that new front tire?
Purgatory Grid 2.4" I believe
My 2006 Toyota Tundra has 280k doesn't use a drop of oil....
Planning to get a 10’ ram 1500 5.7 with 255k miles for 6k, any advice prior to purchase?
Front wheel bearings, fuel pump, water pump, rear suspension linkage bushings give out at 200k. Check those things
@@reaganhughes169 will do, thanks
Just got a stance 27.5 and hit spider for my 2nd time today. You still hitting spider? Super helpful tips btw! What size front tire are you running?
I live 6 hours away so not often at all, checkout my latest video
So insurance totalled the truck and then let you keep the truck .also you have to admit you beat on this truck pretty good compared toa everyday driver .
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD. It now has 471,000 miles. I have replaced A LOT, but it is till going strong.
Your note about front and rear rebound matching up has been a game changer! Has helped in not nose-diving as much in each jump. My rear rebound was too fast.
Try front loading by taping the front break just befor a jump. Gets good air and sets up the rear as it wound take the preload and stay level I race moto cross I can't use boddy wheigt so I jave to break load. Only works at speed and if your new to it can be painfull
Don't know why but a lot of reviews claim Ram trucks have bad reliability, but I always wanted one especially a 6.4 hemi 2500. How reliable are they actually? What are the things that might go wrong in a long run?
Um really depends on the year but did you watch my video? I go through some common (common for most trucks) issues I had. I would get a 2015-2018 Ram 5.7 with an 8 speed.
2010 big horn 4x4 here with 210k and the only things that I’ve changed is 1 alternator, and a 1 fuel pump besides the normal wear and tear items. No cam/ lifer issues
Howdy! A few things.. I did not stress this enough in the video: I ripped on this truck. I beat on it, full throttle accelerations almost daily. I off-roaded it monthly, mudded, got it stuck, towed with it. I beat the crap out of it. I did not treat it gently. Never had a lifter failure. But I did maintain it. I always waited for the engine to be warm before railing it. And I always changed the oil on it on time, fully syn. Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20. Other common issue I forgot to mention: header bolts break off and cause the exhaust to leak. Mine never did, but when I put on the long tube headers, when removing the old headers I had one bolt shear off. Welded out. Unfortunately at this time I no longer own the truck. Her name is Mrs. Gatsby. I miss her a lot but I have a 45 minute commute to work and sold it in place of a 06 Toyota Corolla manual transmission which has been even more reliable than the truck and also now has 250,000 miles. I miss it a lot, but I am glad I have the Toyota, it is more reliable, gets great MPG, and is a great beater car for work and daily driving. I am still in contact with gentlemen who bought the truck. Its still running great, he moved out of state. It still burns some oil.
More vids with the stance please
Hey man! Why do you say that? I would like to, but I do not live close to any good mtn biking at the moment. Are you asking because you are thinking of getting one? If thats the case I can try and make a longer in depth review of it
@@reaganhughes169 I’m picking one up today, I enjoyed your vids too! Wouldn’t mind what you think of it. I wouldn’t be doing any crazier trails than what you did so what do you think?
I’ve been very pleased with my Ram 1500 so far, despite the bad wrap Chrysler gets overall this has hands down been the most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned! Thank you Warren Truck Assembly in Detroit, MI for making such an awesome truck!! 😊
Love My 14 Outdoorsmsan. 3.6 with a 3:55 rear.
My ‘04 Dakota with 3.7 just turned over 300k. Zero clicky-clacky noises. Uses 1 qt oil per 1000 miles. I can live with it. Trans and rear end seem fine. Replaced driveshaft hanger bearing. Sway bar links. Calipers and rotors. U-joints still original. 1 water pump. Replaced leaky radiator. Beyond that, just normal wearing stuff replaced. Planning to drive it till something major breaks.
Heck ya!
Took the truck to its full speed 😂
ECM dyno tuned. ECM limiter stock is I think 110
im also at 250k and my water pump went out at around 230k
217k on our 2012 5.7 hemi! So far nothing outside routine maintenance. No hemi tick, has all original parts.
Front wheel bearings will go out, water pump, fuel pump may go out.
Great video. You really found some big mud holes. Very informative and detailed explanations. Looking for more of your videos.
I got a ram with 160k miles on it. Should I be worried if I get on it once in a while? Did you drive yours like you would a new truck?
I will be honest, I religiously changed the oil on time with good full syn 5W-20, and never got on it until it was warm. But I was very very hard on that truck a lot. Full throttle almost every drive at some point. Thousands of times I gave it full throttle through several gears. I ripped on that 5.7. It never had an issue, later on after 200k it did burn a good a mount of oil but most V8s do with age and wear. It has 260k on it now and the next owner is still loving it.
@@reaganhughes169 ok great to hear. I just got it as my first truck and I’m not gonna beat on it cuase I don’t wanna pay to fix it lol. But obviously I wanna get on it once in a while so I was just wondering. Thanks
I have a 2011 ram with a 5.7 with 160k as well. And I drive it extremely hard I have straight pipes on it and tow daily with it and it’s never skipped a beat. I change the oil every 3k
Note: FYI the oil does not splash on the cams it is pushed through the oil galleys under pressure from the oil pump. Just a helpful comment, not meant to correct. Thanks for your video.

My 2005 ram 1500 hemi 4x4 has 387000 miles. Only repair was an alternator and ac condensor fan. Always ticked when cold. Uses no oil. Always well maintained.
I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with the 5.7. I appreciate your thorough review and the objectiveness that you approached it with. A lot of people won't point out use case scenarios, for everyone I mean when their application or use might be outside of normal. Thank you.
“If your vehicle is used for police use” means high idle hours.
Why would it suggest differential maintenance for police service if it was just idling? Idle and heavy acceleration if I had to guess.
Thanks for the review. I agree these are awesome trucks., looking for a replacement for my Canadian 2010 Laramie 5,7 2wd. At 360,000 kms it's been an awesomely reliable truck. I still love it and it drives as good as it did when I bought it in 2015. Added Motorkote additive to the oil starting at 250 k and its been great , no ticks or chatters.super quiet motor. Relatively rust free. Chronic issues are tie rod ends basically 50 k kms replace one or the other. Wheel bearings 5 on right 3 on left. Cooling system complete at 260k Love this truck. I'm hunting a rare Breed now for a replacement , A 2018 Longhorn Southgate V6 2wd if I can find it. Avoiding the Eco diesel and Air suspension. To much risk over reward for those of us that like to pile on the milage. Best upgrade on my Truck was a set of Bilstein shocks at 300 k. What an amazing ride, that will be my first upgrade on the next Ram. Oh .. want a cure for the manifold bolts snapping. Add a flex connector at the first coupling after the Y pipe. The issue is the rotation of the motor , at startup and on and off throttle. All that suspended exh pipe is loading the rear undersized manifold bolts. I had one rear stud pass side break at 75k we replaced that one stud. At 100k the driver rear manifold stud sputtered when cold but sealed up on warmup. My mechanic noticed this is the exact same routine on all 5.7 rams. Installed a flex connector after the Y. I've never had an issue again. Finally got rid of that cold puffing at 350k that one driver side rear stud.
I have a 06 ram only has a 3.7 but I got it with 8900 miles on it in 06. I now have 273xxxx. It a 6spd manual. Two wheel. Everything that normally goes out is still all original including clutch. The only thing I changed until recently is radiator and pinion seal. Just about 2 months ago the fuel pump went out. So I can't complain. 4 months ago I bought a 04 ram 4x4 quad cab hemi. Only had 109.500 on it. Love this truck. Great condition. Love that hemi.❤ Part of my retirement plan this year.👍
I have a 2013 Ram with the 5.7 engine and it has never used a drip of oil. I change at 5000 miles and it is always been on the full mark when I change it. Also you talked about using oem oil I have never heard that before for the engine. In the owners manual it says you must use MOPAR trans fluid in the BW 44-44 transfer case. I tried to buy and there was none available where I live. The only option was to use AMSOIL as a replacement.
OEM fluids for transmission specifically, engine oil just use full syn. If you have a limited slip make sure to use the Additives etc. Dealer should have the fluids you need
My dad had an 2008 1500 4.7 and he put on 316,000 miles with no major failure. Just maintenance and these trucks hold together.
Big difference in a warm climate hemi vs a cold climate (-40c) hemi.
I would say so🤣
Way better than GMC Sierra! 2018 Sierra 1500 had transmission problems at 80,000km! They all seem to have transmission problems. Not to mention bunch of other electrical problems. F150 has engine and transmission problems all over the place. Eco boost engines are shit. Ram is the truck! Period! Plus it’s the smoothest riding pickup truck out there by far!
My son had a 2017 Sierra with electrical problems. Dealer had the truck for 5 weeks and could not fix it so they bought it from him.
My friend bought a new 2021 GMC Denali for 65k, and engine blew up at 65k miles. I believe he had the 5.3 bent rods destroyed cam lifters. Told him it would be over a month to put in a new engine so they bought it back for less on a new Silvarado with the same 5.3. Read, they got some bad Chinese parts. Hate to see him owing more on a less expensive truck.
psst... why are you whispering? lol
So on your keyboard there is this volume button. Turn the volume up. Or wear earphones. I watched this on my phone a minute ago and heard myself just fine. Look at the brand of eardrums you have. If you see the 'Ford' logo that might explain it. I go with Toyota eardrums now. Walmart has them cheap. Installation is expensive though.
@@reaganhughes169 I have a ford as my eardrums and it heard you just fine lol
hahaha <3 Nothing like a ford, love those coyotes@@truck_dude
