    Sometimes shooting high ISO gives the film vibe. Adapting vintage lenses to digital cameras also does the trick.

    Im pretty sure the reason not many people talk about half frame cameras is because of the lower quality of the picture but its up to the person using the camera to decide what they prefer

    That feeling of "not doing enough" hits all the time. I struggle to relax when there's this capitalistic culture of hustling and always proving to other people that you're still relevant and always doing new things, but I find that my work feels like it's paid off more when I take those in-between moments to myself, when I take longer with a project, it feels like a larger reward. The quick cycles nowadays make for a lot of "throwaway" projects that have less substance for the sake of quick manufacturing. I like this feeling that when I give myself more time, I will personally be more satisfied with the pay-off. It doesn't actually matter if I prove anything to anyone beyond the simple fact that I love to create!!

    I AM 67 YEARS OLD WITH A LIFETIME OF FILM EXPERIENCE COMBINED WITH YEARS OF DIGITAL EXPERIENCE AND I DISAGREE.... FILM PHOTOGRAPHY IS ABOUT THE SAME COST AS IT WAS IN THE '80S WHEN YOU CONSIDER WAGES AND INFLATION... THERE ARE PROCESSING SHOPS OPENING. MAJOR RESURGENCE. THE INFLUENCER DOEST UNDERSTAND FILM BECAUSE SHE NEVER EXPERIENCED IT IN A WORLD OF ZERO DIGITAL...

    I've watched too many movies this year but the ones that really struck me were: The Truman Show (1998), Bottoms (2023), Vamp (1986), Monkey Man (2024), Late Night with the Devil (2023), Little Women (2019), Fresh (2022) and Tokyo Gore Police (2008). One from almost every month of my year so far (Except 2 from April bc it was a good movie month for me)

    Film photography is dead, especially since with digital you can get 98% close to a film look. There is no benefit to shooting film anymore, UNLESS you do it because you like the process. The problem is that many people glorify mediocre photos just because they were shot on film. At that point it is no longer about the photo as the end product, but about film as the process. IMO photography is about the end product and for that, digital is way better than film.

    I’ve also been a hold out with my 80D and it’s been an amazing tool for my intermediate skills with some room to grow in. I’m also using the kit lens primarily (well, the other kit lens being the 18-135mm IS USM). Canon made some quality gear and watching your video is an absolute breath of fresh air amid all of the gear-oriented and upgrade-obsessed channels I’ve seen. Spot on video!

    Great video as always! Self-portraits is something I find my mind gravitating to a lot when I think of photography nowadays. I'm curious, what would you recommend in terms of a cheap, starter camera/setup tools that I could play around with to get started?

    • @StrawbearyStudios
      @StrawbearyStudios Місяць тому

      My recommendation for starter cameras is to find the best camera that fits your budget and needs. If that a dslr great! If it’s a g7 mark III on a tripod then that’s great too! The camera is just your tool. It’s how you use it that will make your photos great. I’ve seen people make some really neat stuff with the most basic gear. Self portraits are so much fun and I think everyone should do them at least once! :)

    Minolta were also the big innovators in the camera industry releasing the fisrt commercialy viable auto focus SLR. The first auto focus 85mm 1.4, 80-200mm 2.8, 28-70mm 2.8 and many more firsts. They made some wonderul cameras and lenses. If you wany a small but high tech 35mm look for the Minolta Dynax 7 was possibly the worlds most technology advanced 35mm film camera. :D

    The best camera is the one you have on you or the best that you can afford. The thing that makes me laugh today is people are spending thousands on a camera for the best image quality only to edit the shot to look like they are taken with a 70’s film camera 🤣

    A lot of great photos can be accomplished with pretty much any gear. I think the gear thing becomes a separate fixation/fascination/obsession (G.A.S.) subsequent and secondary to ones' original interest in photography.

    The ftb is a superb camera. In the film days i first bought a minolta srt-200 w/ rokkor 45mm f2. It was a super camera but i wound up trading it for some interesting non-photo items during a trip. I then thought i would like a canon a-1 w/ 28-200mm that i saw advertised second hand. Eventually my favourite set-up became the ftb w/the 28-200mm. I particularly like that the ftb uses spot metering and the centre of the focussing screen is not the typical so-called 'split image' (which inevitably blacks out when using telephoto) but is instead "ground prism".

    I am studying abroad in Austria this upcoming year, and am very interested in acquiring a camera. I’m curious as to what you have to recommend. I would like a camera that is easy enough to use that it doesn’t take away from the moment. For example, an iPhone takes away from the moment; you need to go through a device with social media and bright screens to take 30 photos of the same thing that you’ll never look at. Also, preferably within a decent price, as I am only just starting Highschool and don’t have tons of extra cash to spend. Thanks!

    • @StrawbearyStudios
      @StrawbearyStudios 2 місяці тому

      Honestly I would recommend an old point and shoot digicam from the 2000s. You can find them second hand for fairly cheap and they’re easy to use without it being a phone. I have a couple and they’re what I like to take with me when I’m out with friends! Hope that helps!

      @StrawbearyStudios I thought this before I upgraded. I shoot a lot of film, 66, 617, 645, 135, etc, and I love a proper viewfinder and all that stuff, mechanical or digital. However, mirrorless is an obscenely huge jump in speed and accuracy that the little screen viewfinder becomes such a minor facet of the upgrade I have not thought about it since, I will watch your video(s) later for context (I have just found the channel, I don't know wether you work in photography or what) but as someone who does events/portraits it has saved me a lot of time, money, effort, heartbreak, and carrying. Not to mention the 80D was not a particularly modern sensor or feature package when it came out, the noise over 800 is crazy, the speed to focus is glacial, etc
