This really suns my shine. Absolutely fantastic video for something I really need to play for myself at some point.
OH WHAAAT this is so well made!!! I LOOOVE Sunshine so this makes me really wanna play it TTwTT Nice video!!!! :D
Thank you so much! I really recommend it if you can play games on Dolphin.
@@brendanblair64 EXCELLENT TO DOLPHIN I GO
HI Jules sent me here we talk a lot on Twitter/youtube and I'm definitely glad I saw this you did an amazing with this video you got a new subscriber 😅
Thank you, I appreciate that! I think she's mentioned you to me before a few times, actually.
@brendanblair64 oh what that's hilarious well um tell her I said hi I guess lol
I was waiting for someone to make a mega review I had a feeling you'd be the first. Love how in depth you've went. Seeing people's love for our teams work fills me with joy ❤. Even if sunshine ain't the most popular mario it's always makes the years of effort feel worth it to have others see the same potential we did in this silly game. Not going to spoil anything but unclemeat and I are both working on some sunshine videos as well, documenting random sunshine/eclipse odditys so keep an eye peeled for more sunshine lore 😊
Oh, that sounds cool! And thank you for watching!
Not only was this Video extremely entertaining, it was Incredibly useful for knowing what we should look out for in our own development, what to avoid entirely, and what to push for, Honestly cant wait to see more!
Thank you! I saw the Elements preview video was a re-imagined Double Dash track, which is exactly what I wish Peach Beach was in this, so I already love what you guys are doing.
Just like Co-op and Online, I took care of the Player models for Eclipse, and Il Nokissia lol. Luigi is my best work Publicly, Nokissia was VERY fun to design, and Piantissimo is my worst work. Piantissimo gave me such a hassle for Sunshine reasons, so he unfortunately had to have his tree downgraded, but It was still an Honor to have contributed to Eclipse!
I think you did a great job with those models, and I do love Nokissia's design. Piantissimo's tree looks bad, but I know there's technical reasons behind that, and it otherwise looks good. Thank you for watching and all your work on these Sunshine mods!
Watching this video has made me realize that I need to play this game like ASAP. I have no idea how I haven’t yet.
I'm willing to bet you are now officially Super Mario Eclipse's number 1 fan.... maybe even Super Mario Sunshine's
Someone here called me the Mario Sunshine GOAT, so it's quite possible. I'm honored to have such a title if true.
Absolutely loving the review so far! I'm only 17 minutes in but I just gotta say, I seriously appreciate how much attention you give to the new movement tech. Plenty of other reviewers hardly acknowledge the new moves or straight up don't care for them, so it's awesome to see the Sunshine goat himself displaying it in a positive light. I adore just how versatile the movement is now with both the hover-burst and Piantissimo's insane moveset, that alone makes this mod so addicting to play. Alrighty, back to the review 😂
It always makes me laugh how nobody who plays eclipse uses the long jump or other new moves.
Honestly it took me a while to actually use the new moves when I first played Sunburn because the old moveset is so hardwired in my brain. That new tutorial does change things though.
@timvenus5186 Lomg jump is mandatory for me now lol even in Online I have to use the gecko code. Eclipse has spoiled me
This review really did make me happy. I'll save other points for any other devs that wanna comment, but I can tell you the Yoshi Villiage boss music not playing when Peter wakes up, is very random lol. Sometimes it switches, and sometimes it keeps the stage theme, just depends on how it's feeling I guess. Like you said though, better than silence. Mafia used to kill music too if you went in after eipsode 1 but that was fixed too. Piantissimo's model gave MasterMario such trouble when he was getting him working, the version we have now is the best he's been. In an ideal world the tree would match, I agree, and i know MasterMario did the best he could in the short time. Honestly a lot of the criticisms here, sound right in line with Sunshine so hey, guess Eclipse really did it right lol! If you're hyped for more islands being represented, Super Mario Elements is starting to progress rather well, keep an eye out for updates on that ;) Getting such compliments on my music and Trevor's music, was awesome to hear as well. This was my first time working on any game OST, and the team really helped me get going. Trevor started last year and I started around June to do the 2nd half while he took a supporting role the rest of the time so he could focus on life. Also, you'll be happy to know that a few months ago, ddumpy did release the majority of their old Eclipse music on streaming platforms. So now you can hear most of it whenever :) I do want to make a new version of Corona's theme for fire shrine in 1.1 possibly. MAYBE a track for Yoshi Villiage 1 too. I can't wait to keep up with more videos, and hopefully keep seeing you around the Sunshine servers :) Feel free to chill with us and play some Sunshine Online or Co-op sometime, in the end we're all really one small family of a Sunshine community and I love it. Edit: Portable Productions nailed that final boss theme! She's making Sunshine 2001 as well, a mod I can not wait for everyone to get to play someday.
Your comments are always so nice, thank you! Thanks for those explanations, and I'd love to see you make songs for Fire Shrine and Yoshi Village 1 for 1.1. I've seen bits of Elements around, and absolutely love the idea, and that recent preview looks great. I'll definitely cover it in whatever capacity I can whenever I get around to making a sequel video to my other Sunshine mods video. I probably should interact more on those servers, honestly. Social anxiety sucks, but maybe I should push myself more.
Wanted to leave this comment before watching, I'm very excited for this video. You've been a champ at covering Sunshine modding! As one of the 2 main music composers on Eclipse, I'm excited to see your thoughts on the OST and cutscenes. Getting to work with the team the last few months of development was such an amazing experience. Josh really did hold together so much for Sunshine by leading BetterSMS and Eclipse's programming at the same time. Now with Eclipse out, we Sunshine lovers look forward to a day every mod is in BetterSMS and therefore Eclipse can be online and in Co-op and such. Once that happens, Eclipse will truly replace Sunshine for me. Ramble over :) Will make a 2nd comment after watching haha.
Thank you! I really appreciate your support with these videos. You did a great job on Eclipse's soundtrack too, I'm a big fan of Lighthouse Island.
Cannot believe I missed this video. Thanks for playing and showcasing doot. GG on 6 shines!
Thank you for your work on Doot and watching the video!
Are you gonna make a full video on super mario eclipse since it's been out
I literally just finished a voice over session for that video. It's gonna be huge, so no promises on when it'll be out.
I did it ua-cam.com/video/pKuwFnxxvzI/v-deo.html
Keep up with your videos
fabulous video
Thank you! I'm very proud of this one and couldn't be happier that this is the one that blew up.
o0ohhhhhhhhh Sunshine Online sounds insane
It's so fun! High recommendation if you have some friends to play with.
Super Mario Eclipse looks like the best Super Mario Sunshine mod.
It really does. I've actually gotten a lot more excited since this video because I now know more about how they're adding to Isle Delfino itself, and I could not love it more!
I've always wanted to get into sunshine mods and whatnot this helps. Great vid!
Thank you! Eclipse comes out in just a few days too assuming it doesn't get delayed!
CANNED
Yeah, I canned this. If you read the description, you'll see why.
Honestly, the movement system in this game reminds me a lot more of Odyssey than 64 since that game not only has an external object you use for the movement, but also its heavily reliant on timing.
I can see that comparison. I just use 64 as the baseline for any 3D platformer that has a bunch of different moves you can chain together because it was the first.
@@brendanblair64 makes sense
It would be so cool if someone can mod oddessy levels into sunshine. Or Fludd into Oddessy
FLUDD in Odyssey already exists at least.
The hatred toward Sunshine is unironically just a skill issue. Fludd only slows you down if you refuse to learn Mario's moveset, and hot take, but the collectibles are infinitely better than in 64 and Galaxy. All great games, but Sunshine is absolutely underrated.
Yeah, I don't understand how someone could hate this game. I can get not liking it to an extent, but hating is a pretty intense response for a game that has this much quality to it and is this unique.
most of the hate i see is for the jankiness (which really only shows in very few areas, some of which are completely optional like the Pachinko level), & things regarding having to complete the first 7 levels in each world, instead of being able to skip some. the second point is only a problem because theyre comparing it to 64's freedom of choice, when they should just be taking the game for what it is instead of comparing it to what they want it to be. its such an amazing game with great gameplay, details, & some of the coolest presentation ive seen in a Mario game. we've grown older so we're used to the game's surprises & mechanics, but for the 2nd 3D Mario game of all time, this game was such an upgrade from 64. the cutscenes (even the little ones where Shadow Mario takes FLUDD before those secret levels), voice acting, extras, the insane hubworld, its all so special, especially for the time it released.
ok how do i run mario eclipse via dolphin
The full game is coming out in less than a week assuming it doesn't get delayed, so I'd say wait until then. It should have instructions somewhere when it does come out, so just follow that and you'll be good. It's pretty easy as long as you have a Mario Sunshine ISO.
I really like sunburn, although I do understand your point about the atmosphere and flow of the mission system being kinda ruined. I definitely agree with that, I just personally feel like sunshine and 64 both are way better paced when they don’t kick you out of a level and let you collect multiple shines and stars at once, kinda like how odyssey does it. But I also understand where you’re coming from as well Great video btw! I’m definitely gonna have to check more of these out when I get home, especially that beta recreation one
Yeah, like I said in the video itself, I totally understand why people prefer Sunburn. I just happen to love a lot of the things that have to be sacrificed to make that sort of structure work. It is a great mod though. I'm happy it exists for people like you, and I do still like it myself, I just don't prefer it. ALSO Eclipse comes out in eight days! Definitely play that when it releases! And I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
@@brendanblair64 Oh hell yeah, excited for eclipse!
Stop shipping sonic plushies to me with sticky notes on them stating that they are cameras it's getting annoying
I agree with Brendan, palace sneaktime swing is a certified hood classic, anyways this was a great thorough well put together review!!
I appreciate seeing other Palace Sneaktime Swing enjoyers, and thank you!
I really really really need to bring this game out of my backlog. It looks so fun and the visuals look so unique and stunning! I bet I’d be in the time attack mode for hours trying to perfect levels like I do in Sonic games. One thing that has stopped me is deciding which system to get it on. Initially I was thinking Switch but I want too performance with top visuals and the switch is really starting to show its age. Maybe Steam but I’m hoping to get a physical console copy if I can so maybe PS5?
PLAY IT
Great review. I vaguely remember hearing about this game ages ago but had no idea it was out, will have to check it out, looks fun! You two should collab again in future, was nice to have the mix of the two opinions
Thank you so much! I'm sure we'll do more things in the future at some point.
I had a lot of fun working on this video! Thanks for taking the reins on it lol
I didn't know what I was doing, but things turned out pretty good anyway. Thanks for joining me!
Really liked this video! I’ve been into Mario sunshine hacks for about a year now and it’s nice to see someone compile and passionately talk about all their favorites
Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
Came back for a rewatch. Definitely your best video yet
Oh wow, thanks for the rewatch! I'm very proud of this one, and I look forward to the day enough new Sunshine mods come out to warrant a sequel video.
hey they took the video down or something, can you link like a google drive or mediafire of the folder?
Hey, I did some digging and found the Discord server for this port. I linked it in the description.
Your production quality is so high. I have no idea why you haven't blown up yet.
I really appreciate that, but it's probably because I've gone long periods without uploading, and UA-cam doesn't like that.
Nice video
Which parts of the game would you consider "bad". I thought they did a really good job with the 3DS remakes. Ocarina of Time was beautiful.
I mentioned it in the stream, but Nerrel's video on it from a few years ago covers it pretty well. The big things would be the zora swimming was made so much worse and way less fun, the ice arrows no longer have any freedom and now force you to shoot glowing parts in the water, outright giving away puzzles, deku spinning no longer brings you to top speed, making the lilypad sections in the Southern Swamp way slower, the bosses were made much worse and less unique, and a lot more. I like a lot of the changes or additions too, so it kinda balances it out in ways, but I still prefer the original overall if we're ignoring mods like what I'm using in this stream. I get why someone would take things like the bad zora swimming if it meant they get the freecam or improved Song of Double Time though. I wouldn't, but I get it.
*man I hope nintydo don't see this vido and nuke all these mods from orbit* On a serious note, I love seeing custom content for games I play a lot. It has always seemed like wizardry. Plus this vid is really making me want to play Sunshine again. I’ve never actually beaten it.
I know you saw my tweet before commenting this
@@brendanblair64 lel yea Also, sorry I just now watched this vid fully. I've reserved YT mostly for background noise while working on stuff but that’d be a disservice cause I'd love to see all this cool custom stuff.
@@TreyGamr58 Don't worry about it. I know you had stuff going on.
I feel like I had the exact same thought when watching the SM64 modding scene grow so big lol. Sunshine was always my favorite 3D mario and I always wanted it to get some more love when it came to the modding scene. I'm excited to see what the future holds for sms modding as it seems like it's only going to grow from here!
I never played Mario Sunshine but it's really nice hearing someone who has a lot of love for the game talk about it.
Really loved stumbling upon this video! Interesting, well paced, and well written! Can't wait to try some of these mods myself now!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope you enjoy checking these mods out on your own!
Nice
Yo!!! Great video! Loved seeing some of my favorite mods being showcased here. I actually made a mod recently that's basically what you described as "Sunburn LITE" Not sure what I'm gonna call it though haha.
Oh, really??? I'd love to play that when it releases!
@@brendanblair64 Awesome! It should be released hopefully within this week!
@@Capridog Alright, I guess I will play Super Mario Sunshine for the fourth time this month.
Hey, any word on this? I'm genuinely still really excited about it, and was happy to see some progress on Sunshine Hut a while ago.
@@brendanblair64 Hey sorry! I haven't touched the project in a while. I still plan on releasing it soon. I'll start working on it again very shortly.
I’ve never played sunshine but this was so cool to watch! I’m always impressed with modders and the way they change things up and add their own twists to preexisting assets
I will continue to bother you until you finally play this game
Hello. I am one of the moderators for Mario Sunshine Coop and i just wanted to answer some of the questions and explain moments that happened in the video. 22:22 As the pinned comment states. Yes this mod was not actually made by Haywire. However the confusion is that the Trailer for the mod was uploaded to Haywires channel as he was the one who edited the video and told people about the mod. 22:47 The sound of two bloopers at once is actually very loud and at the moment we don't know how to really fix that. 22:54 lol 23:06 The reason Mario died as well when Luigi hit the wall is because you had 0 lives. When you die at 0 Lives. Usually you get a GameOver screen and you boot out of the game. However we chose to not keep that as 2 players would loose lives more than twice as fast so Secret levels would be awful to play. Also we haven't added a way that one player still plays after one of em dies. Idk if we will add that but we feel like it wouldn't be as fun and probably would cause other issues. 24:00 I went through this part frame by frame and i have an idea of why you entered Bianco. My assumption is when Luigi first respawned. He spawned in front of Bianco and fell through the floor because you were in an underwater state and the M graffiti doesn't activate to pull you in that quickly. But when Mario spawned in front of Bianco. The M graffiti was already active. So it pulled you back up from falling through the ground. (This is only my assumption) 27:15 There is somewhat a fix for this that requires 2 monitors. I am not too sure how well this goes via netplay as i personally haven't tested it. But you can change the resolution manually "somewhat" if you go to aspect ratio in Graphics settings and choose stretch to window. You can play in windowed mode and just drag the screen over both monitors. Then you will have left monitor for Mario and right monitor for Luigi. (There is also a Horizontal splitscreen option if top and bottom is more your style) 27:21 The game can have performance issues depending on your computer and the specific settings you choose. However the game can run at a smooth 60 fps through the whole game and we have a list of recommended and essential Dolphin settings in our Discord server. Plus we can help you figure out why you are having performance issues in there as well so don't be afraid to ask for help :D. 27:30 We are working on an update that will make the game run better so we don't have to render the game every other frame for Mario and Luigi (30fps + 30fps = 60 fps) so we can go to the original 30 fps instead which would make the game run smoother and hopefully be more console compatible and less Dolphin Settings dependent for lower end computers. However a Gamecube game is a Gamecube game and it won't be flawless cause of the limitations that gives us. But we are working on making it the best it can be. Ending thoughts. Thank you again so much for including our mod in this showcase. We highly appreciate it and i hope i managed to help clean up some of the confusion. If i get any notification on this comment with questions then i would love to answer them to the best of my ability. Thank you Brendan and Thomas for playing it and remember. What is vacation without friends!
Wow, thanks for this very detailed response, it cleared a lot of things up, and thanks for watching!
Thanks for y'alls hard work!
I made a mistake with crediting the creator of Co-op, it's actually TheAzack9. I'm sorry about that! I was going off the trailer alone, and wasn't expecting someone else to make it.
❤ omg litirally me as a kid same. Looked at that hotel lacrima thing and was like the fuck how is this it that's everything. Decided I need to change that. Loved the video, people like you are why we keep trucking away on eclipse ❤
I KNOW! I really appreciate all of your work in changing that with both Sunburn and Eclipse, and thank you so much for watching!
I remember when Arcade 1 came out and not keeping up with following hacks because it looked so underwhelming. Boy am I happy to see that the modding scene for this game has improved this much. I could not be happier.
I felt the same, but man I was wrong. It's so fun.
What a great video! I really enjoyed the Sunshine Online part (I helped make a few models there lol) Myself and a few others are also working on a brand new Sunshine Project: Super Mario Elements! so be on the look out for that! 😁 And Thanks for spreading awareness of what the Sunshine community is up too
I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on that project too, then. Spreading awareness was one of my main goals for this video. I was surprised how much cool stuff is in the Sunshine modding scene, when not a ton talk about that stuff right now. I hope that changes. It should not have taken someone like me over a year to learn about the Online mod.
Sunshine is my favorite 3D game as well! Seeing such an awesome video on Sunshine mods made me so happy! This year is gonna be so nice for Sunshine mods! I have way too much fun playing Eclipse's demo and Sunburn regularly. I just started working on the music for one that's early in development still. Sunshine is so underrated, the movement is just, so great and in bettersms I'd argue it's perfect. Sunshine Online is someday gonne be on bettersms, I can NOT wait! SO amazing to see another Shadow Mario fan too, he's just the most badass character, period lol. Co-op is still in active development as well, so a lot of the issues and stuff will be resolved at some point down the road I'm sure. Eclipse is gonna be playable in multiplayer at some point after its release too. Sunshine 2001 and Eclipse I'm SOOO hyped for. They're working so hard on them, and they're such cool people to talk to. its new music and stuff will be amazing too. Solarshine is getting a final update eventually as well, so it too shall get its closure :) This video made my whole day. Thanks for making it! I am so excited for where Sunshine seems to be going.
This comment made my day. I appreciate that you liked my video so much, because I put a lot of work into it. I think we're in the golden age of Sunshine modding, and I couldn't be happier about that.
where i get the download
I replied this to another comment, so I'll just copy and paste the response This specific fork can be found here github.com/djoslin0/sm64ex-coop But I actually recommend SM64 Co-op Deluxe now. It's a fork of the fork you see in this video with way more options and better modding compatibility. The only thing is that it has less players, so playing with random people isn't as fun. It does have a "SM64 EX CO-OP compatibility mode", but it apparently crashes a lot? That's just what I heard. sm64coopdx.com/
