SHALOM❤
My mentor.
please give link to Jino Kang Dan Bong 1
Dude’s a badass😎
When the godfather of judo talks everybody listen 👂
Something I’ve noticed on my travels is Bob gets picked on a lot.
i tried searching for a torrent of fist 2 fist .... 😲
Love videos.
This is one of those great self defense weapons that are proprietary to Hapkido and makes me want to learn this style. The other self defensive tool being the cane.
While some of the spinning and strikes using the string are fairly particular to Hapkido, a lot of the joint manipulations can be tied back to gun-sen techniques and possibly come from one of the foundations of Hapkido: Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu. Gun-sen also had tassels similar to a dan bong but there is no direct tie to them being used for the same reasons.
Most excellent. Where is your school located if I may ask?
We are in San Francisco sir! Thank you!
We need more why is there not more ughh
This is something different.. rope stick .. something between a okinawan nunchaku and a japanese short stick..
Gene Lebell is a legitimate tough as nails Martial Artist & fighter. The fight he had with that legitimate Boxer was much bigger than some knew as the Boxer had brass knuckles underneath his gloves, and Gene was still able to take him down, and choke him out for what would pave been a 200 count if someone bothered to count. Lol
No evidence of Brass knuckles whatsoever. The boxer was a past his prime retired journeyman with no Judo experience, and it took Gene over 20 minutes to submit him. The truth isn't as magical as the tall tale.
This old shit claims he was Bruce Lee's master for a year. Lol 😆 what a joke to claim when Bruce isn't here today. I believe it was the other way around which he was Bruce's student.
Rip a definite legend
Gene ficou com medo de rolar com o rorion quando rorion finalizou vários alunos seus !
RIP JUDO GENE!
The Legend! Rest in Paradise Sir! What a sweet man he was.
I had the honor of getting some Grappling and Judo lessons from Gene awhile back. RIP Gene.
And I’m his 4th and final BB.
😅
Love gene but he wasn't bruces instructor they worked mostly fight scenes together. This is while they worked on green hornet. Gene only started saying he was Bruce's instructor after bruce lee died. But bruce learned more grappling from Japanese judo Olympian and wally Jay. I'm not saying gene and bruce didn't show each other stuff but most it was tstuff for movies and working out together
The lanyard gives it the ability to be used in a way which is kind of similar to how a nunchaku is used except for without the second stick.Granted it may not be exactly like a nunchuck but this demonstration goes to show that with the dan bong the lanyard doesn't just only have the potential to be simply a passive and inactive part of the instrument which does nothing but aids in retention but it can also be a more active part of the weapon which aids in the wielders offensive capability.
I discovered the utility of this tool by accident. I started a hike with a bo and ended up breaking the staff, so I ended the hike with a sharp jo and sharp dan bong!
When in doubt, choke them out. Absolut wisdom right there.
I don't think people really understand how much of a legendary fighter this guy is. This guy is for real. Got the title "Sadistic Bastard" from Karl Gotch in which Gene considered his greatest achievement.
I trained short stick but not rope with short stick.
My judo senshei has been olympic and he is always doing that takedon with one Hand. So fast
💪💪💪👏👏👏💪💪💪
Thank you for demonstrating the importance of the lanyard with the short stick.
Nice love it
GENE LEBEL BEST EVER...
Epic, Iconic, Legendary, Criminally Underrated
That is, technically, called a chul bong (rope staff (literally string staff)). A tahn bong is any stick from the size of a Kubotan to about the length of the arm from the elbow to about 2" past the fingertips. This is a half of a noonchawk, which is called ssang chool bong in Hangeukmal
I love gene but the yellow fellow at the end....jumped and fell haha
Lol. Can't say yellow but you right. The moves legit though.
They all legit. They all get a plan until they get punch in a mouth. I can only preferred to get trained from real boxers or real UFC champions with over 100 legit fights on their belts. That the only way to defend yourself in real life situation. The rest i just watch same as movies. Just entertaining.
His story with Steven Seagal was hilarious, he made Seagal unconscious and shit on his pants.
it's been debunked.
It has been debunked
@@odanobunaga7584 debunked, according to Steven Seagal. Ok seems legit. 🤣
@@emancoy Not just Steven Seagal, but the people on set of the movie also debunked it, so yes it is absolutely legit Lol 😏
@@odanobunaga7584 people close to Steven Seagal, no bias there 😆
Thanks so much for explaining the technique in slow motion master! 👍🏼
Hu
That first one was the sort of thing Batman would do.
Very practical weapon
Unfortunately none of its pragmatism was demonstrated here. Would have liked to have seen that. In the Western world, it's just a truncheon with one move. Hit to the face or head. Usually made out of wood.
Super.
Que buen vídeo, gracias
Very nicely done.
I'll bet Gene rules the retirement home.....free drinks on Friday nights!
Currently working on short stick in class. Very helpful!
what happened to justin y.?
anything without the cord?
Dan bong can be used without the cord, but you can't spin it.
A corded tahn bong is called a chool bong (literally "string sraff") but referred to as a rope staff. Two sticks is known, in Okinawa, as the noonchawl but is a ssang chul bong in Hangeul/Hangeukmal
Cool! Flip the stick around a few times to give the mugger warning so he can draw his weapon too
Trés bien
imo - He's a legend of a teacher and a truly nice guy (not to mention his fight history, work in films, martial arts etc etc). In public (especially) he's always having fun and playing up an old school wrestling/hardman character. All those faces and the bravado are just a sincere act which pays homage to the wrestling/hardman personalities of old. I for one love to see it and understand (once he moves up to the great wrestling ring in the sky) the martial community will morn the passing of not just a great man but a bygone era in wrestling/grappling, fighting and the personalities therein. Long live Gene! ;)
Where can I purchase one of these????
I know I'm replying to a 2 year-old comment but szaboinc.com is a good place to check out. They have both Titanium Dan Bongs (outrageously expensive), and ones made from far more reasonably priced synthetic material ($25.oo). Truth is, you could make your own. Length of wood handle bought at any hardware store. Look for diameters of 1-inch. (Though 7/8-inch is okay too). Tape down or clamp the handle onto a solid surface, such as a heavy table or workbench. Take a power drill and put a hole near one end. The lanyard is very easy to find. Look for raw-hide laces wherever shoe-laces are sold. (Check your local large pharmacy-chain stores.) After drilling, cut the handle down to length (12-inches). Simple hand-held saw works fine. And there you go, your very own Dan Bong. Though for $25.oo, having a pretty much indestructible one made from synthetic material sounds like a bargain. Just going to mention, I'm not affiliated with Laci Szabo or his online shop in any way, shape, or form other than as a custom who recently bought a handful of items from his shop.
Nice.... how long is the cord?
Depends, on your hand size. It should be customized to fit your hands. For a thumb loop, the stick should be wrapped around once on the back of the hand and the stick should rest perfectly in palm of your hand without any part of the stick protruding out on the bottom of your hand. Good luck!
As per below but have about 6cm protruding past the hand for major pain compliance.
I wouldn't do it with a knife though.
As someone with training in knife combatives, I wouldn't either.
It's just for demonstrations...
