    From my limited experience the rear swaybar has a flat spot to keep the lever centered. Unfortunately.. thought I would be able to loosen up the u bolt and rotate it on the bar to lower the suspension. Which could work but I didn't do that

      @rwl1970 - Hello and thank you! My C32 has a smaller pulley for the supercharger (I believe it is a 65mm) and a TCU and ECU tune. I also modified the airboxes, which likely only added a bit. The pulley and the tune really wake the car up, and that is what I would suggest. From what I have ready, these mods can get you to about 400 crank HP.

    While I suppose it's too late for this suggestion, consider covering the trunk panels with Alcantara, suede, or leather. If you're worried about imperfections showing through the material, you could always back the material with a thin layer of foam. A quick search showed some places that sell material with foam backing already attached.

    Looks good question alot of time went into the metal work on each side of the zebra wood and amp rack. Would it be possible to modify the side panels you built and show more of the metal work trim? I assume the wheel arches are a compromise and why you went over them. I can still see the top of the Metal panels it just seems to disappear under the sides you built (Panels seem overlap it) Unless I am not seeing it right and its minimal. Also when you wrap the sides/finish them out suggestions on consistent theme and put metal trim on them (Carpet/vinyl/metal borders and or insets and even some of the wood elsewhere plus visible hardware (Gold and silver mix). Unless you are going for a stock carpeted side look with the highlighted center (Components and Rack etc) Completely impressed with the Fab work and the detail, love the moveable brackets for the lower potion. I feel your statement on the hundreds of hours you have invested. I built my truck over 2 years and it was nearly every weekend.

      @PrecisionMike 2 місяці тому

      Hello @Oldnobrand ! Thanks for the detailed comment. You are correct, I have spent a ton of time on building all of these panels and I still have more to go. When these parts are complete, the entire trunk area will be carpeted with the same tan carpet (matches the interior OEM carpet). So none of the work will be exposed. My hope is that is all flows nicely, and that the seams are tough to see, or invisible. I think I am going to run a couple of strips of zebrawood on the side panels. Hi Mike. To start with - those side panels came out REALLY nice. I would argue they are the very definition of precision, stellar work. One thing I was wondering about is related to the carpeting of the areas in the car that the panels will meet up. Considering those areas are now covered with Dynamat leading up to the very edges - how will you finish those edges that will be visible along the trunk opening? Already looking forward to the next episode of this awesome build log 🙂

    • @PrecisionMike
      @PrecisionMike 2 місяці тому

      @carlnorrbom - Hey Carl! I am not too worried about carpeting the areas that have Dynamat. Just before I carpet, I will fill in any low spots as needed, to ensure that all surfaces are smooth. I think I have the seams, and where the carpet will roll on an edge vs be a straight cut, figured out. Thanks again for the comments and compliments, this fuels me! More videos coming soon!

    One more thing... consider epoxy resin its more expensive but it wont shrink as badly as polyesther. You can also get fillers (structural, fairing) and different hardeners (they have slow cure, fast cure, clear cure). The fillers are all powders so you can have a can of the structural one and use that like kitty-hair, or you can have the fairing one and it sands easier than bondo. And... very little smell.

Same could be said about the fiberglass resin. I used to get mine from US Composites. Their website is right in the era of the BMW (haha), but the resin flows SO much nicer than the really thick bondo brand stuff does. Love watching the rebuild of this legend btw. I got to hear it back in '92. If I only knew then what I knew now about sound... sigh, oh well it was still an experience I won't forget.

      @pocket5s1- thanks for the tips! I have been out of the game for a couple of decades (lol) but I have used rage in the past, great stuff. Awesome that you got the hear the car in the past, maybe someday in the future as well!

    Side panels are coming out great. Fibreglass warping, considering the length of those pieces, would have been difficult to avoid I think. Agree with what you said - the smell of fibreglass curing is nostalgic 🙂. Didn't really use much in my later builds but did fibreglass the front sub.

      @carlnorrbom- Thanks buddy! Honestly, this has been my least favorite aspect of the build. If I did not have some much time invested, I would start these over. Looking forward to them being done:) Thanks again for watching, more "precision" work coming soon!

      @@PrecisionMike Thanks so much, Mike. The 10,000 hours was me trying to learn how to tune and teaching myself about time alignment, and learning how to recognize what each frequency sounds like. I tried using REW and a microphone, I used analog EQT and analog phase shift controllers, then I got into the realm of DSPs. I tried Helix, Mosconi for a brief moment, Arc audio, and then Mini DSP. I also fiddled around with Dirac room correction on both the mini DSP as well as my NAD preamp. I switched to higher grade microphone, used perfectly positioned microphone locations using strings hanging from the ceiling measured out in a perfectly symmetrical box, with tape marking elevation on said strings. Or course, over the years with driver, amplifier, and wiring upgrades, every swap caused many more hours of adjustment. Mostly all adjusts were done by ear. Bottom line, after all those hours of fiddling, I did an ok job, but I would say that I never really “tuned” the system. I was what I could call “ fiddling” or “playing around making adjustments” trying to get it to sound right. Bottom line, just recently, when Miguel Rios flew up to the Northeast and brought his JL Max and used his skills to get my system dialed in, I can proudly say thanks to Miguel, that the system is tuned. The soundstage width is about 150 degrees, the depth on some tracks can reach about 80 feet in front of the windshield. The instrument tonality is lifelike and realistic, the imaging is three dimensional, fleshed out and unbelievably holographic. The incredible size of my soundstage was because of the work Steve Head did on my midrange enclosures. I just had an audiophile friend come take a demo and he got goosebumps, mentioned the open and airy sound, noted the instrument tonality, was In disbelief of the center image stating I had hidden martin Logan panels in the windshield, then went on to mention the background singers were flanking him and singing in his hears, yet but so far away. He also mentioned the realistic tonal characteristics of every instrument. He has heard almost every incarnation of my system over the last several years. He said that it’s the best it’s ever sounded and “people need to hear this”. Problem is my health has taken a downturn and I ended up in the hospital the day before yesterday. I no longer have the strength and ability to make it to shows. So the only way others will get to experience the system is if they come to me. Unfortunately, I’m not sure how much longer my time here on earth I’ll be around. I wished to share my creation with as many people as possible, as do you with your creation once it’s finished. For me, It looks like that’s not going to happen.

      @josephennis7008 - Hey buddy! Thank you! Every inch of this build is over engineered, just the way I like it. Today, I will FINALLY be slinging that fiberglass!

    I think going with the metal rod on the top will work better than wood pieces as you will get a much cleaner, more precise edge. The advantages during the fabrication were quite obvious as well. I like the fact that it is, as you say, quite over engineered - but that is the whole point of the build right? Leave nothing to chance. This build is so inspiring and I look forward to each new episode. Keep up the stellar work.

    Lol on the files comments, the grooves looks great! I know how long that must have taken. Hey if it works, its a good tool, dont throw it away. Let me know if you need other types.. BTW, dont get frustrated with the design choices and lock up/spin your wheels. Do the small stuff that you know has constraints and let that inform the more flexible design choices. Also, sleep on it, keep a sketch pad handy! The creative things you've done in this process to solve issues is what will make you appreciate it forever. Oh, and for the future when you're done, don't feel bad when no one else REALLY understands the amount of work that went in. Its for YOU! :)

    These sidepanels are coming together really nicely and the mounting came out great. Was thinking about the zebra wood and it warping/expanding. Are there mouting holes for any of the componens that spans more than one section of the wood? Any concern of these holes potentially coming out of alignment or do you think the movement of the wood will be negliable in that respect? Keep up the excellent work, looking forward to the next video, inspiring stuff 🙂

      @carlnorrbom- Hey Carl! Whoa, that is a great point. I honestly did not consider if there are any items that are mounted to the zebrawood that would stratal more than one of the four pieces. The only item will be the base for the 845 display tube cage, but I think it will be just fine. I am going to speak with my dad about the zebrawood also. This wood appears to not behave very well. More videos coming soon, stay tuned!
