Bilsdale Incident: Temporary Mast Construction
Переглядів 9 тис.3 роки тому
Day one of the temporary mast construction following the Bilsdale mast incident. A team of around 100 people are working day and night to construct the mast and set up the transmitter. Working with local authorities, planning bodies, central Government, broadcast customers and regulators, the national park and others, good progress is being made. It is expected that this temporary mast will res...
I'm gutted that the mast, an icon of the moors for 50 years was demolished. Why the fuck couldn't they just repair it?
It was beyond repair sadly.
The Japanese can build a whole road Network, Bridges, Towns after a tsunami in three weeks, our experts cannot erect a bit of metal.
It's more than just a "Bit of Metal" FFS
filey is only 6 miles from olivers mount tv transmitter cant they adjust that are they just thick and dont care ?
It’s weird, Filey has always been a Bilsdale dependant despite being further south than Scarborough/Oliver’s Mount which is fed from Emley.
40 days without tv sending this via filey libary as no internet at home they are taking the piss if this happened in the south it be fixed within 2 weeks
Err, it's a bare site, doesn't really look like they've been working day and night to me 🤔
We've had no TV in weeks 😢 #firstworldproblems
Will there be a period of the tv licence rebate do you think
they try to wiggle out as normal i say dont renew you licence next year and tell them you got used to no tv thow them .
I wish they would hurry up
The thing is that people don’t realise that this had to be their last option because it is extremely expensive, and to even get permission to do this took weeks. Now they have to lay foundations because an 80m mast will not be light, then using helicopters to transport materials because by land it isn’t as accessible. And then using helicopters to build the mast, and I’m sure you’d know that just one helicopter ride is so expensive. They are actually now trying their best but it will take time, I have all my HD channels back yet people in the same area don’t have anything because it also varies by location.
Oh, so I may get some free to air tv (beyond BBC) soon?
He keeps sayong We've got, when he means We hope.
Can you not monetise this type of video and remove the adverts?
I have a 1/4 of the channels I usually have, and BBC frequently drops out. The video says it will take 3 weeks to construct the "temporary" 80m mast that will restore service to 90%. Notice that I already have service but nowhere near full service - will 90% have full service? And what kind of service will the 10% have - none? Of course, the 90% is only an estimate - and such estimations are usually over-estimations. Also, why an 80m mast when the original is 4 times the size at 314m?
Perhaps you should look at the engineering effort to get this built as it is, there’s a big difference between 80M and 314M…
Building a 1000+ foot mast is no trivial matter. If the existing mast needs to be replaced it will take considerable time to get it down, safely, before work can even begin on the new - and that's without the challenge of an ecologically important moorland site. Broadcast suppliers don't often have spare 1000ft masts lying around "just in case" - it'll all have to be custom made. I genuinely feel sorry for all those affected by this, and I'm not Arquiva's biggest fan for many reasons - but I cannot see what more they could be doing here. It's a massive undertaking.
@@timhague882 You're a master of the obvious, and your comment is as empty as a vacuum.
@@paulh5293 You say you're not a fan but yet defend their incompetence - they clearly had no prior plan for such a disaster. They took weeks to get access, and now plan to deflect harsh criticism by doing something they think they are cappable of - erecting an 80m mast. The suspicion is that they are not capable of erecting a new 314m mast. Their claim of providing service to 90% with the 80m mast is hot - unverifiable - air. By the way, the company is Arqiva not Arquiva - you're not paying attention.
@@jamesalton8703 Yep, concentrate on the spelling mistake rather than the content. You clearly don't understand either mechanical or broadcast engineering. Nobody "plans" for a massive mast fire. Just like nobody has a spare Forth Road Bridge, or stadium, or petrol refinery lying around in case of disaster. What you do is reinstate as much as you can using other infrastructure - often a compromise but useable - whilst you get the prime system rebuilt. Arqiva re-engineered a number of relay transmitters (including my local one) to get as much working as they could. Go read up about what happened at Emley Moor, Ostankino, Peterborough and Waltham in years past and see how they worked around those problems. Oh, and as you're so keen on spelling - it's "capable", not "cappable".
This is far too late for all the residents of my partners nursing home
