O Little Town of Bethlehem gave the school-age tuba and euphonium players a chance to shine as only middle and high school students performed this carol.
Historic Route 66 - Hooker Cut, Missouri

As WW II raged overseas, the Army created a training camp in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. It was named Fort Leonard Wood. The construction of the fort required a large workforce and building materials. Route 66 was used to move people and freight to the area but was narrow and snaked around the Ozark hills. The solution later would be known as the 1943 to 1977 Four-Lane Route 66 alignment! ...
Bridges of Route 66 - Devil's Elbow, Missouri

Loggers in the 19th and early 20th centuries referred to a sharp bend in the Big Piney River as “a devil of an elbow” and are responsible for the community’s name. In 1923, a steel truss bridge was constructed that spanned the Big Piney River across the lower portion of the elbow. The bridge still serves the community today.

Not yet on Route 66 but on my way I happened to notice this unique use/display of some old railroad rollingstock. Two passenger cars and a caboose that appear to have belonged to the "Katy" (Missouri-Kansas-Texas) in a shopping center in Greenville, TX!

The Rainbow Curve Bridge is an old bridge on a preserved section of the original Route 66, the "Mother Road". It is located between Baxter Springs and Riverton, Kansas.

The Route 66 Ribbon Road or Sidewalk Highway predates the official establishment of Rt. 66. Completed in 1922 as Federal Highway Project No. 8. Running 15.46 miles from Miami to Afton, Oklahoma it incorporates the only remaining 9 ft. sections of original pavement on the old Route 66 system that were taken out of service in 1937. This is a National Register of Historic Places Site.

Is this road used anymore? It looks deserted and there are no road signs…it looks like it needs resurfacing too…
It is still used, mostly carrying local traffic I suppose. I-44 parallels it less than a mile to the north. And, yes, it could benefit from resurfacing.

Took Route 66™️ from Chicago to Nevada in 1996. Wanna do it again, someday. 🇺🇸🥳
I understand that feeling. My two brothers avoided Chicago, but rode their motorcycles from IL to NV IN 2016. I don’t have a bike, but provided 4-wheel support across OK & TX. I’ve been making these little “drop ins” whenever I’m near the route ever since.

Hey, I remember that line! We got there 75 minutes before the gates opened, and even then we joined the line which was already almost down to the corner.
my plan was to get to the stuhr museum but I could not get there because traffic was on the right of the highway for over a mile by 9am. it wasn't moving at all either.
I arrived just before 10:30 am. The line appeared to be about a mile long and it took 45 mins to get onto the museum grounds. After I parked, I looked back at the highway and saw there was no line. Ironically, it appears I could have arrived at 11:15 and come straight in. 3,000 cars came in before I did and only a couple of hundred after! Well, we'll know next time :)
