5 Risk Avoidance Strategies for Contractors
Just another way to milk you for more money. They jacked up the cost 25% plus the auto renewal fee is a straight scam. I haven't used the service for over a year. I'm sure CEO chris anderson is sitting pretty far at the cost of his unsuspecting "customers"
Great service if you want to be ripped off by their hidden renewal fee. Plus they raised the cost 25% haven't used thir services in over a year and just got taken for $2,000. Even after trying to dispute it got a universal corporate letter of denial. Wouldn't recommend AIA to an enemy
Hi Del Val Electric, We’re truly sorry to hear about your frustration with the renewal and pricing. Your feedback is valuable to us, and we want to ensure that our subscription policies are as clear and fair as possible for all our customers. We'd be happy to chat further about your case. Please reach out to us at support@aiacontracts.com. Thank you for your partnership!
Very helpful. I would like to have had more about the 728 and 729, and a little faster on the history of how we got to 2017.

Do deductions also get placed on the G703?

Very good overview
Great to see this!!!
I am waaay more concerned about HOW the information is articulated nicely.
Hello, Which webinar software does AIA currently use? Love this knowledge based series Thank you💜

"iMasons Climate Accord"? Woke AIA thinks because "they" say construction it matters. I'll just keep using aia up for their documents. Remember that you picked your team.
How is a video on youtube being distributed protected by international copyright law?
Well laid out. Good informative presentation.
no sound
Hi Donna, there is sound on our end. Maybe check your audio and the mute/unmute button on the video?
Thank you!
Great video! Much easier to understand than the approved material.
I did not register upfront. How can I still get the credit for this course? My AIA # is 30176513. Thank you
Thanks for running through this.
Thanks, A question can a company have two bid bond to cover two parts of the project from the total cost of a project, due a company limited bonding capacity.?
Hi Edgard, We cannot give legal advice or advice specific to surety underwriting. There may be several factors that would impact the answer to this question, including the specific nature and terms of the project solicitation, including whether or not there are any statutory or other legal requirements that might preclude a multiple-bid bond situation. The answer may also depend on the nature and underwriting practices of the Surety(ies) being asked to provide the bid bond(s). If the company has limited bonding capacity, it may be difficult to get a licensed surety to underwrite the excess capacity (undercapitalized liability). This is something that requires legal analysis and specific input from the putative bonding companies. You might want to reach out to competent legal counsel and also inquire with a surety bond producer Home - National Association of Surety Bond Producers (nasbp.org). All the best, The ACD Team
Hi, first of all thank you for your great job, the video is really helpful! I have a question, do I need to proceed with the next number of the CO if the last was declined or I need to keep it with the same number and what about the amount for previously authorized COs? Is that only for previously signed and approved or whatever initiated CO amounts? Thank you in advance!/Liudmyla
Hi Liudmyla, We cannot give specific recommendations, but we can explain how the forms work. So, you may number the change orders however you want. That said, the change orders generally go in sequence from first to second and so on. A change order is also for changes to which all the parties agree, so if a change order is declined then that may throw the rest of the forms out of sequence. Again, it is up to you to decide how best to deal with this issue. Our program allows you to import data from the previous change order when creating a new change order. So if you are creating your second change order, you may import from the first and that will bring the numbers forward. You may have to adjust for situations where a change order gets declined for some reason. Hope this helps! Feel free to contact us at docinfo@aiacontracts.com or 800-942-7732 option 2 if you have any more questions. Best, the ACD Team
Thanks
thanks for this lecture
We're happy you found it valuable! Feel free to check out more resources on our blog: learn.aiacontracts.com/
We have all our business contacts in OUTLOOK. Can we just drag and drop from OUTLOOK? We certainly do not want to re-enter out contacts by hand.
Hi Kevin, Unfortunately, this feature is not currently available. Thank you for your feedback. We have shared it with our Product Development Team. Best,
Do I have to pay for this form? I'm new to this and so lost.😢
Hello Linda, Yes you can purchase them here: G701 - aiacontracts.com/contract-documents/155036-change-order G702 - aiacontracts.com/contract-documents/19661-application-and-certificate-for-payment Feel free to contact us at docinfo@aiacontracts.com / 800-942-7732 option 2, if you have any more questions! All the best,
This is torture. I'm not five, I don't need the irritating voice at the start reading some nonsense disclaimer, assuming anyone watched it for credit, that doesn't need to be included as it should be documented, a whole lot of bs and filler, and the banter at the onset, awful jokes, deary.
$100 for a one time use though is expensive. I could see $40 maybe, but $100?
Hi Pamela, Let's chat! Please email us at aiacontractdocs@contractdocs.com and we'll be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you have.
I agree that it's a joke to pay that much for a one time use document. Might have to build it into the price of your project.
Hi@@natron1776, We truly value your feedback and concerns about our pricing. We'd like to shed some light on why our services are priced the way they are. Behind our offerings is a dedicated team of experienced attorneys who work tirelessly to craft and update our contract templates. Their expertise ensures that you're equipped with legally sound documents that protect your interests and foster transparent business relationships. While we understand pricing can be a consideration, investing in our legal team adds substantial value to what you receive. The contracts they create not only comply with the latest regulations but also provide a solid foundation for your business growth.
Shannon is the best 💞
unfortunate that the discounted new system cost almost 3 times as much for common contracts. I didn't know that filling out PDF's was so difficult that we had to create a system that makes it more difficult and more expensive.
Hi Thomas, we find most of our customers choose to use the editable version of our documents due to the flexibility they provide. While the non-editable purchase option has been a staple offering for quite some time, the platform that supports it does not render an ideal user experience, which is the primary factor driving this change. State-specific documents in the non-editable format, however, will continue to be available. If you have any questions about this change, please contact us at support@aiacontracts.com, or call 1-800-942-7732, Option 1. All the best,
When using G701 change orders, do they need to be listed on continuation and treated as another division within the continuation ? adding to the grand totals that are then transferred to g702?
I see it does need to be listed but am I including the change order amount to be listed within the total and completed to date column ?
Hi@@melanieortega9560, You may list each change order as a line item on the Continuation Sheet (G703, G703S, etc.), and then fill out the “Change Order Summary” table at the bottom of the payment application (G702, G702S, etc.). So, the idea is that you treat a change order just like any other line item of work, putting it on its own row and filling it out appropriately for that item (Scheduled Value, Work Completed, etc.). It will add into the grand totals that go into your payment application as well. Cheers!
We review over 100 projects per year (over a billion in hard costs residential design), and the biggest problem I see in the contracts is the complete failure to fill out the Enumerations section and the issuance date of the contract documents that are part of the project and scope. And we see many versions of plans for the same project, but then the version by issuance date is often missing. Please educate owners and architects to fill out the Enumerations section. (I also see a lot of strip mall lawyers poo poo filling out that section.)
Great point. Yes, most (if not all) owner/contractor agreements in the AIA Contract Documents library have prompts where the parties can (and should) enumerate the drawings and specifications that will be part of the Contract Documents.
thanks
Most welcome!
AIA Contract Documents, you've taken away easy to use "non editable" contracts and replaced them with this convoluted user interface. For small practices like mine the simple "non editable" B102-2017 was perfect, now you've made it 10x harder to complete what used to be a simple task. Fix this issue, as an AIA member it is infuriating to see my dues wasted in this manner. Besides trying to data harvest and grow your email lists, what does bumbling user interface actually accomplish?
Hi David, we're sorry to hear about your frustrations. We find most of our customers choose to use the editable version of our documents due to the flexibility they provide. While the non-editable purchase option has been a staple offering for quite some time, the platform that supports it does not render an ideal user experience, which is the primary factor driving this change. State-specific documents in the non-editable format, however, will continue to be available. Our editable contracts and forms will remain available for single, one-time use, or as part of an unlimited annual subscription. Our editable contract template includes added flexibility to meet your specific business needs, including the ability to easily change legal terms and parameters to satisfy the requirements set forth by the insurance and bonding companies tied to your various projects. You can also edit, save, and share a working draft before generating a final document. In addition, the editable template gives you the ability to import calculations and add images, allowing you to build a more appealing, robust document. If you have any questions about this change, please contact us at support@aiacontracts.com, or call 1-800-942-7732, Option 1. We sincerely appreciate you as a customer and would like to express our gratitude.
Thanks
Welcome
Why shouldn’t contractor charge overhead and profit on change orders? It’s still work that takes time…
So you cant edit contact?
Hi Rick, You can edit a contact in the “Contacts” tab. Keep in mind that if you add a Contact to the Project Team and then edit that Contact, those changes are not retroactive. You will have to go to the Project Team, delete, and re-add that Contact to get the information to update. If you have any other questions, please contact us at support@aiacontracts.com, or call 1-800-942-7732, Option 1. Thank you
Great information
Thank you, Juelz!
Can I request a deposit? If so how do I put it on the G702?
Hi Operation Hotshot, You can request a deposit just like any other line item. While there is not a specific area in the payment application/continuation sheet forms for a deposit, you may list it as a separate line item/row in the Continuation Sheet. You could, for example, use the “Stored Material” column on that row for a deposit (instead of using the Work Completed columns). Then the totals will go into the payment application. If you have any other questions, please contact us at support@aiacontracts.com, or call 1-800-942-7732, Option 1. Thank you
the "key moments" for this video are a mess (I think it's auto generated by YT) the segment on the Spearin Doctrine (as it's correctly spelled) begins at 9:40, not 12:43.
No more AIA discounted forms 😑
Hi Donn, With the new online shop, the AIA membership discount now appears automatically when you log in. Users can also view their membership status under ‘My Account’.
Is it "Specialty" or "Speciality"?
Good point, Richard! Thanks for your feedback :)
Great video! Very informative!
Thanks so much, Arch Nation! So glad you liked it!
