Rewilding and the Carbon Cycle - A New Platform for Groundbreaking Science
🌍 Excited to share the launch of the Animating Carbon Cycle website! 🌱✨
Animating the Carbon Cycle is a groundbreaking field of science that bridges biodiversity and climate - showing how healthy wild animal populations supercharge the ability of ecosystems to capture and store massive amounts of carbon from the atmosphere. It is a promising nature-based solution that mitigates climate change, reverses biodiversity loss, and restores balance for nature, people and Gaia.
Our new website, www.animatingcarbon.earth, is an increasingly comprehensive library of resources for anyone working at the intersection of climate action, biodiversity action, and policy.
Whether you’re a rewilder, scientist, policymaker, educator, or simply passionate about creating a wild world, this platform provides:
🌟 Visual animations and explanations of Animating the Carbon Cycle in action.
🌟 Regularly updated results from rewilding action happening on the ground all over the world.
🌟 Resources to integrate the science into impactful work across disciplines, including policy guidelines.
🌟 Peer-reviewed science from some of the world’s top scientists, universities and journals.
We invite you to explore this resource and join us in re-animating the carbon cycle - through science, policy, and action.
This initiative is led by a partnership between the Global Rewilding Alliance and @yale School of the Environment.
This work would not have been possible without our Rewilding Champions. A great thank you to:
Biophilia Foundation, @RewildingEurope, @rewildingchile, @ifawglobal André Hoffmann, Ben Goldsmith, @Re:Wild. We also want to thank @OneEarth and the @WILDFoundation for helping us get started on his important initiative.
Join us in partnering with nature. #AnimatingCarbon #Rewilding #HopeIntoAction #Biodiversity #Climate

Bison herd grows at Wilder Blean Bison Project
I loved the video and loved your quote.
I am very glad I found you. Good luck with this project of the rewilding news and with all that you do.
Are you still working on this project?
Enjoying these videos, thanks!
💚💚💚
Beautiful 👏🏻
I love the segment about the Ancient TOURIST Cattle in Spain. 🤣🤣🤣 You might want to check the chapter titles... @globalrewilding
Haha! Yes, I am afraid that the chapters are automatically generated and our online dictionaries need rewilding... that being said, we are very glad that you enjoyed it!
Beautiful, beautiful.
So good to hear some positive news
That was fun.
Great video, thanks!
Just found this channel. Love it
Brilliant! Congratulations!
COP28 and any other global gathering about emissions are completely worthless. Time to get a brain, guys, and stick to your topic of land restoration - which has nothing whatsoever to do with global warming.
Thanks for getting stuck-in. Just wanted to say: rewilding and the restoration of ecosystems (on land and in our oceans) is strongly interconnected with climate change mitigation. Biodiversity and climate are interconnected. Better still, increasing biodiversity can be a powerful tool in mitigating the climate crisis. A growing body of science has outlined that rewilding animal populations to enhance natural carbon capture and storage could further reduce emissions by billions of tonnes annually, an amount of reduction that rivals each of the IPCC's top 5 (see Schmitz et al., Trophic rewilding can expand natural climate solutions, Nature Climate Change). Our topics very much overlap with COP28! Have a look at our website to read some more on this :)
@@GlobalRewilding No. You're confusing which comes first, the planting or the biodiversity increase. As far as re-vegetation goes, that's always best done by humans getting the process started by planting in a big way. First we re-vegetate, then the animals come back. It's not the other way around - breeding animals in desertified barrenness. BTW there is no "climate crisis." Eight inches of sea level rise and 1 degree warmer in 150 years is not a crisis (which is why your climate preachers buy beach front property). When the earth was 10 degrees hotter, ecosystems were pristine; when the earth was 20 degrees hotter, ecosystems were pristine, and so on. Ecosystems can be made pristine at any time via restoration, and the miniscule increase in warmth this past century can't affect them.
Thanks for your further thoughts, "PaladinTrueKnight" (we'd much rather talk to a real person, and we'd like to keep all correspondence on this channel polite and respectful please). We appreciate that what we're saying can appear counter-intuitive as animals breathe out carbon dioxide, right? So how can they possibly help landscapes and seascapes absorb more carbon? And yet, this is what the exciting new emerging science is telling us - that through processes including seed dispersal, trampling and grazing, this is exactly what they do. The clearest example is by preventing fire - a Bison can eat 10-20kg of dry matter per day, preventing wildfires that release huge amounts of carbon to the atmosphere, not to mention air pollution. Other large grazing animals such as Wildebeest, wild horses, wild cattle, Elk and ungulates do the same. The trouble with tree planting is that it is often done with non-native species, in straight lines, nothing like a natural ecosystem. Many studies have shown that such places have very low wildlife richness, are vulnerable to fire and poor for groundwater - and there is emerging evidence that rewilded natural forest regeneration actually draws down more carbon. May we suggest that you go to our website and read the science that we've published in some of the world's top scientific journals? As for the climate crisis, we subscribe to the mainstream scientific consensus, as brought together by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. @@paladintrueknight
Good luck with your new show. (I'll be more critical later.)
