A piece for bagpipe written by the very young composer Nicanor Perez-Bruzzone (b. 2017) for bagpiper Jordan Alexander Key (b. 1990). Nicanor is only 7 years old and studying music composition with Dr. Key. Ann Gray (b. 1962): 2/4 March in A Hexatonic "Andrew Wright of Dunblane" (perf. Jordan A Key)
Переглядів 2155 місяців тому
Ann Gray was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, May 14, 1962 to a family of musical women. She started piping at age 10 as a member of the Balmoral Girls’ Pipe Band in Stellarton, N.S. By the age of 18 she had won every amateur piping award in the province, and had advanced to the professional ranks. She started teaching at the Gaelic College in Cape Breton when she finished high school, and was Pip...
Marie Fielding (b. mid 20th c.): 6/8 March in E Dorian, "Master Scott Nichol" (perf. Jordan A. Key)
Переглядів 1355 місяців тому
The march in sophisticated Scottish music is far more than one might think from St. Patrick’s Day parades. The march on the bagpipe is perhaps one of the most intricate and virtuosic pieces a bagpiper can learn, particularly in the 6/8 and 2/4 variety. While these marches come from a functional tradition, 6/8 and 2/4 marches have evolved in Scottish music into a “high art” form with much subtly...
Jordan Key (b. 1990): 9/8 Slip Jig in Modulation, "Sue McIntyre" (based on tunes by Sue McIntyre)

Sue MacIntyre was born in Inverness in 1929 as Farquhar McIntosh. Her mother, who was a ward sister in the town’s Craig Dunain hospital, died before her fourth birthday so Sue was sent to a children’s home in Aberlour. Some time later she returned to Inverness to live with her father who had re-married. Sue began piping with the cadets in Inverness and in an interview from 1998 described how it...

Gail Brown (b. 1953): Strathspey in B Aeolian, 'The Canadian Glen' (parts 3 & 4 by Jordan A. Key)
Переглядів 1065 місяців тому
The strathspey is the most idiomatic Scottish style of music extant today. It is a dance form with rather unusual rhythmic phrasing and rubato, though all couched in a familiar 4/4 time signature. Like in a classical sonata, the Strathspeys form the developmental and modulatory core of the MSR set. Gail Brown was the first female bagpipe player to play in the World Pipe Band Championships and t...
Glenna MacKay: Strathspey in E Hypo-Phrygian, 'The Isle of Hoy' (perf. with parts 3-4 by Jordan Key)

Glenna Mackay-Johnstone (born sometime in the mid to late 20th century), has enjoyed a long competitive piping career as a soloist and also as a member of the Grade 1 78th Fraser Highlanders in the 1990s. She followed in the footsteps of her famous piping father, Reay Mackay.
Donald MacLeod (1916 - 1982): 6/8 March in A Hexatonic 'Donald MacLean of Lewis' (perf. Jordan Key)
Переглядів 1305 місяців тому
If you know this tune well, this is perhaps not how you've heard it before. Sometimes reimagining well-trodden classics is a worthwhile exercise. We hear a tune so often, played the same way again and again, that it looses its magic - at least to my ears. It merely becomes an exercise in listening and an exercise in performing, each performance and performer striving merely to be a mimeograph o...

As a young man he joined the Aberdeen City Police (now Grampian Police) and quickly became their pipe major. He received extensive piobaireachd tuition from the late Pipe Majors RU Brown and RB Nicol, The Queens pipers at Balmoral. As a competitor, his solo aw...
MSR: March, 'Men of Argyll'; Strathspey, 'Maggie Cameron'; Reel, 'Sound of Sleet' (perf Jordan Key)
Переглядів 1745 місяців тому
The 'MSR' is to the bagpiper what the sonata (or perhaps suite) is for the pianist. The MSR (March, Strathspey, and Reel) is a long-standing sequence of pieces that demonstrate a bagpiper's mastery of the instrument and idiomatic Scottish musical styles, the Scottish 2/4 March and Strathspey both being uniquely Scottish forms.

Phenomenal. Thank you :)
Viel zu schnell, das ist wiegender Dreiertakt!
Are there any landini cadences in this piece?
What a wonderful concept so elegantly executed.
Guillaume de Machaut l’avait déjà fait, Et Bach aussi
Brilliant!
I'm just really glad that they recorded this back in 1200
i have absolutely no idea what i just witnessed but it sounds really cool
Explain to me, people from the comments, what kind of classes do you take this music in? Because I didn’t even have this in music lessons. I study in a regular school if anything
this guy is a looper bro wasnt even cooking any fye
Loved this….note perfect
Thanks for listening! I am glad you enjoyed the tune. Peter R MacLeod Sr. is a great composer!
Such a beautiful and sensitive arrangement of this plainsong hymn.
is this a tocatta?
Che strumento fantastico!
Makes me think of a dark and perilous journey into mysterious places of the world. Beautiful. I can't wait to be able to play this.
Congratulations to Nicanor and his inspired mentor. Kudos!
Wow! Cool piece! I am amazed that someone so young composed this! Thanks for making a nice recording and sharing. I want to learn this piece also.
Fantastic performance of a very challenging piece.

The counterpoint part in quick notes can be used as a good preparatory exercise for playing and composing toccatas in the Italiab and South German Renaissance and Baroque aesthetics.
Vaya mierda
La música virreinal hispanoamericana es extraordinaria....la cultura occidental en América, un siglo antes de Bach y Haendel....Un respeto, por favor.

Thank you for your answer ! ☺️
😊
As an additional detail he was the tutor to the remarkable John Wilson. Wilson as a boy lost part of his left hand in an accident but learned to overcome his disability and became an excellent composer himself.

Listen. They are not the same piece. They only have the same title. Similarly, many composers have "Gloria" or "Credo" pieces. This is just a liturgical text, set at different times in different ways. Listen carefully to both recordings; they are very different.
4th Part is a cracker!
Ah, mixolydian
GM McIntyre is my great grandfather

Hi Jordan. Where can I find the sheet music for this tune? Struggling to find it on Google
Here. That's probably it, unless you can find the editions mentioned in the associated video podcast about PR MacLeod on my channel. I got them from a library and scanned them; thus, what you see here (this was the the 'US bicentenial collection of bagpipe music, volume 2'. This is largely the point of this channel: to make available bagpipe music that is otherwise inaccessible due to 'out of print' status, and to make people more familiar with great tunes (such as this one) that no one plays largely becuase they are not promoted or publicized on popular online bagpipe music site or in competition circles. Take a screenshot of the video and enjoy!
@@JordanAlexanderKey it’s very unfortunate that there aren’t many sources for these out of date prints. I may have a look in my local library for similar things. Thanks and I hope you continue making this great content
This composer is new to me. Sounds great. I love it. Chris
Thank you very much Jordan Alexander. You have done a beautiful and difficult work.
Thank you so much. I am heartened that you appreciate the work.
Con la dizione non ci siamo proprio, i cantanti hanno massacrato il brano.
not cool bro
Very cool bro
Sorry I made a mistake ; the tune I’m looking for is Mrs Harriet MacLeod of knockfarrel !
The tune you are looking for is not by William Lawire but his grandson, Willie Lawrie, the accordion player. The only collection of Willie Lawrie's music I have of is "The Lawrie Collection" published in 2004; it does not contain the tune you are looking for. I did also find "The Lochaber Collection" of tunes by Willie Lawrie (accordion player); however, this also does not contain the tune you are looking for.
If you have a recording of this tune, I can make you a transcription. I cannot find a recording online. Feel free to email the recording to jordanalexanderkey@gmail.com should you have such a recording.

Thank you for the music and score! I checked out the Codex Squarcialupi and I noticed you gave the wrong information: the notation for this caccia can not been found on fol 25v-26r, instead it's on fol 49v-50r. Anyway, thanks again!
Magnificent video. Thank you so much! May I have your permision to use a little part of your video (from 0:15 to 1:35) for a music history video conference I am creating? And if you want, I can put the link of this video in the description for those who what to see it completly.
Thanks! I am always glad to hear the video is finding use. Please feel free to use it for educational and academic purposes; just be sure to credit it in a reasonable fashion. Thanks!
Thank you very much. I will
Ha, I'm not here for a class, I'm here because I genuinely enjoy this music.
Nice to hear! I'm here for this reason too 😊
I never knew ballet had black midi in it :o
Yeah! It does now. I hope you enjoyed. Thanks for watching
What instrument was it played on? What temperament was used in the instrument, and what is the base sound for tuning?
It was performed on the pipe organ at the University of Florida. Likely equal temperament; it's a modern instrument (as you could likely tell given the registrations)
1:04 imagine live in 12th century and hear this banger from Leonin
Offitorio
I consider Zipoli a special composer, particularly on his organ music: perhaps the best original composer after Frescobaldi and before Scarlatti.
Who are the musicians? Any credits for this recording?
Bellissimo pezzo eseguito benissimo, grazie Maestro. Una domanda, che tablet utilizza? ipad? Grazie
I'm mostly blind. I often don't read from sheet music except in the beginning to slowly study and learn the piece prior to playing and performing it. To do this, I use a large computer monitor to read the music at a very large magnification. Tablets are too small for me to read music.
