6:36 I think this is true. I think it’s because the thinking at the time, was that a dead person’s spirit hovered over/around them for three days, before departing. So the wait meant that in everyone’s eyes Lazarus was long gone, and already decomposing. Remember Lazarus was not the only person that Jesus raised from the dead, but the other accounts were before the person’s burial. And remember there were other accounts of resurrection in the Hebrew Bible. So Jesus raising someone from the dead was not “proof” of his “messiah-hood” (couldn’t think of a better term). It just proved that he was a man of God, like the prophets of old. But raising a man who had already been dead for four days was proof that God had given him authority over life and death. It should have made his identity undeniable!
