2013 Volvo XC60 Back-Up Camera Fix
This is a quick repair video for my 2013 Volvo XC60 T6 R-Design. The back-up camera intermittently flickers and when it's hot outside will show the blue screen of death.
This video shows you how to install the Genuine Volvo Equalizer

Hi I've bought this part and installed it but it's made my camera flicker even more. It's in line and in the right direction so I'm not sure why. Any suggestions?
this works perfectly nice easy-to-follow video, thanks, no messing just straight to the point.
I had the exact same problem. I fixed the problem with the same part. The only difference is that I had to install the equalizer under the driver seat. That solved the problem. Thanks for the video.
Looks like a valid solution - any ideas what is inside it? It will probably be a video amplifier or ?
Thanks so much! Fixed my 2014 volvo backup camera. $238 and 15 minutes!!!!!!
Thank you for posting. I fixed my 2012 Volvo S60 using the same Volvo part #31471726. I had the same issues noted by others - video had jagged lines and would go to a blue screen of death in warm weather (> 80 degrees F). Some things to note: (1) The part is expensive. MSRP was $250 USD and they tried to charge me $330 retail [this is in Seattle, WA, USA in June 2023). Ordering online allowed me to get for $250. (2) Like the XC60, the S60 had the video connect located in the left-side rear of the trunk. It looks just like the one in this XC60 video. (3) Study the latch mechanism on the part to understand how to disconnect the latch in the trunk. It is small and tiny but pressing it allows you to separate it. (4) This is an inline repair, meaning you separate the original wire connection and insert the new part in-between. Hope these notes help. Thanks again!
I live in the UK - had the same problem with my 2012 XC60 - flickering screen and blue screen of death over about 22C - My Volvo garage said water damage to the camera - did not comment on blue screen - had to buy the part from Germany SKANDIX AG - not cheap 263.00 euros including delivery plus vat at UK end total around £293.00. However it works perfectly and is simple to install. It is also cheaper than a camera replacement by Volvo which I assume would not have sorted the temperature issue.
I have a Volvo V60 2014. Volvo Retail tells me that this is not the way to fix it on my car. Someone that have a V60 and made i work??
Hello! I have the same problem in my volvo xc60, is there any more economical solution than the original volvo is very expensive.

Hi. I have almost same problem. Where can i buy the tool? 😊
Thanks for the video :) Very easy for install, took me around a 1 min. and in Volvo the price for the installation was ~40$ :|
Thank you... this was awesome. I was reluctant to order the part because I was concerned I would be $200 into the fix and still have the problem. It worked! I had the same problem as commented below. I almost gave up on the installation because I couldn't find a matching part to remove. I came back and read through the comments and thankfully I saw that I was to ADD the part not REPLACE one. Thanks again for this very informative video. As a result I have subscribed to your videos.
I just bought a 2014 xc60 T6, The back up camera is an extra, I can't seem to get it on. Are you aware if the dealership can upload software or do I need wire work done? Thanks
Can someone please advise from where i can buy this “equaliser” ?
Thank you for the video. Added this three months ago and its been perfect despite 100deg temps. Image quality improved as well. Should have done this when we bought it three years ago.
I have a V60 from 2011 and it has the same problems with the reversing camera. Did someone somehow manage to solve the problem of the blue screen or the glitches for this type of Volvo? I opted for a camera equalizer that will arrive in the next few days. What I can't establish exactly is if there are connection plugs for this equalizer on the cable path from the camera and where they would be positioned. Some help please!
Good question - not really sure. I'd be willing to guess that the wiring harness for the backup camera is similar to the XC60, but can't confirm for sure. I've also heard that the equalizer on some models can be installed under the drivers seat. So if you don't see a place for it to fit in your trunk, maybe check under driver seat? Hope this helps
@@akeneshea I installed the equalizer under the driver seat. I think is the only place where you can find a plug. It is working very well.
I just did this on my 2013 S60 and it fixed the problem! I have had a total blue screen for several years, and the camera has been working about 1% of the time. What confused me at first was that there is no equalizer in the car from the factory...you're adding it in line with the existing camera wiring. There are male and female ends so there is no way you could insert it the wrong way. Thank you!!
Hey there! I have a 2014 S60. Did you use the part number from the video?
I have a question I have the exact car and was wonderwondering if you where to install the part
Does the camera come on automatically when in reverse, or do you have to push the camera button? I test drove a 2016 XC60 last week and the reversing camera didn't operate(automatically) in reverse gear, only when camera button is pushed. Thanks for the video.
In my 2013 S60, the camera does come on automatically when you shift to reverse. You can also be in any gear and hit the camera button and it'll come on. The only time it won't come on is if you're traveling faster than some threshold (maybe 5 mph?).
I have the exact same problem with my 2014 XC60. I should have fixed it while still under warranty. The flickering seems to be getting worse now. Thanks for the video.
One of the few videos that address this problem. Thanks
Thank you so much. I thought I was the only person with this issue.
11 days after install and today got up to 80F. Working flawlessly!
Mine is having this issue too. Was hot today. What does the heat have to do with it?
